Question Should sovereignty be an international right?

Again and again I've seen anti-imperialism shouting up on a case by case basis, while rarely talked about in the context of it's own assumptions and ideological makeup and implications. So for those who identify with those sentiments, I am going to ask:

Should sovereignty be an international right?

If oppressing groups trying to fight for freedom and gain their own independence is something we all disagree shouldn't happen, should people have a right to secure their own ability to govern, government and land and break apart from any greater regime they might be part of? Should the world organize and try to cooperate to try to enable this to be done in non violent ways?

What would be the requirement for such a deceleration of independence? And what of the locals who disagree with the split? And is simply living in an area enough? How small can an area or population be for this to still apply? And what about local resources that are part of the national economy?

How did Italy, France and some 20 other allied powers get cut out? Or is it a dirty political joke about how the UK and US decided to slice up the world?
