Before I came here, I was in this other forum. I met him there. That was about 15 years ago. We regulars there would chat first in IRC messenger, then we switched to AIM, then finally to yahoo messenger. We either chatted individually or in a group. Sometimes we would do video conferencing or phone calls. We all became pretty close. He and I became really good friends, especially since we were more similar in age (there was about 3 of us in that age group). The rest were in their 20's. We were just friends then. Within that time, he had gotten married and divorced. About 2 years or so ago, we finally got together. I guess the time was right. I've always been totally honest with him. I could be myself, express however I feel about things without having the fear of criticism. And I've never felt judged. He lives in a 70 acre forest in North Carolina. He's been a fireman for 17 years. He's a really nice guy, calm and even-tempered, which balance out my excitable and temperamental personality. Hmm....anything else y'all would like to know?

What percentage of his fireman's retirement pension did his ex-wife get in the divorce settlement?

Hmm...I didn't think of that. I didn't ask, and he didn't say. However, I don't think she got any. She makes more than he does. I've got to make sure though.

And to answer your question, yes, I am planning to move up there. With that much land and that many years into the job, he can't afford to move. If he moves down here, he would have to start at the bottom. At his age, that doesn't make sense. He recognizes the sacrifice I have to make to move up with him and promises to take care of me and do whatever it takes to make me happy. We'll see how that goes. As long as he says it out loud, I am comfortable that he'll make a conscious effort. Ahh....yes, I forgot to mention. He proposed and I said yes.
