Wonderful! Would she be willing to change her phone number, so she's less likely to forget all this ever happened and fall for the same guys again in six months?

sexobon 07-19-2018 06:55 PM

Which can happen if she only remembers all the attention she got out of it and that it didn't end up costing much.

xoxoxoBruce 07-19-2018 08:58 PM

Good news!

Griff 07-22-2018 07:36 PM

Close one.

If cellphone, you could change ringtone for all non-saved-contacts to the Jaws theme.....

Undertoad 07-24-2018 07:21 AM

It's a no.

I don't even know why I get excited about these things any more

glatt 07-24-2018 07:48 AM

I'm sorry. :(

BigV 07-24-2018 08:28 AM

Sorry man.

You get excited because it's what you want, and this is how you get it. It's not just gonna walk over to you and sit in your lap. You're on your way to "Yes". It's not "no", it's "not yet". Hm?

Gravdigr 07-24-2018 01:15 PM

They're morons anyway.

*************************************************

I just got a pop up from AVG offering to scan all my passwords to see if they've been compromised.

You're tunneling out of the prison you're in, just one scoop of dirt after another until you suddenly break out. Sunshine, fresh air, rainbows and shit.
But only if you keep digging. ;)

Griff 07-25-2018 06:20 AM

Sorry dude, their loss.

Sorry.

Undertoad 08-29-2018 11:00 AM

This time I got the job. Yay hooray!

I'll be managing critical network infrastructure for Fortune 100 companies, for a blue chip British company known worldwide.

If all goes well, my career is now nursed all the way back to health from where it suffered a massive cardiac arrest in 2008. If all goes well. I am not taking anything in life for granted any more.

xoxoxoBruce 08-29-2018 11:23 AM

Good on you. :thumb2:

BigV 08-29-2018 12:14 PM

HOORAY!

glatt 08-29-2018 12:15 PM

That's outstanding! Well done!

fargon 08-29-2018 01:58 PM

Very Good Sir.

limey 08-29-2018 02:17 PM

WONDERFUL! Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy! [emoji471]

Happy Monkey 08-29-2018 02:41 PM

Congrats!

Undertoad 08-29-2018 03:52 PM

Thanks all! I expect all our resident Brits are familiar with the company and may even have gripes about it. It is a British company involved in the Telecom business.

Clodfobble 08-29-2018 04:04 PM

Hooray! I am very pleased at this news.

Congratulations, UT!

Please can you help to get something done about the branch resting on the phone cable from the pole to my house? ;)

Well, it had to be worth a try.:D

Griff 08-29-2018 08:04 PM

*BOOM!*

monster 08-30-2018 12:03 AM

well done! tenacity at its finest

orthodoc 09-11-2018 06:56 PM

Belated congrats, UT! Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I hope all is going well.

BigV 09-11-2018 10:33 PM

A new long thread is under construction.

BigV 09-12-2018 02:02 AM

Completed first pass through pics 175 resized pics, collated with narrative text

lumberjim 09-14-2018 04:39 PM

You do know IrfanView will batch resize, yes? With scripts to sharpen etc and rename in sequence.

glatt 09-14-2018 06:30 PM

Works great too

BigV 09-14-2018 07:42 PM

I use IrfanView at work, and I also use it at home. I'm familiar with the batch resize capability.

This task was done with Picasa, same result.

Today I updated servers that manage networking services in a major part of Her Maj's government.

Double

Are they located within the UK?

Will understand if you aren't at liberty to say.

Clodfobble 10-01-2018 04:59 PM

Mwahaha... Feel the power!

Undertoad 10-01-2018 05:34 PM

They are in the UK, but my division handles one particular part of the network infrastructure for many customers around the world.

I feel like I can tell you about it, but I have to be coy for the search engines. You would know this well-loved Nat'l Service by their three letter acronym, where the middle letter stands for Health.

In my previous job, I was systematically prevented from working with the bigger names because the founder micromanaged everything. I think the most important company I worked with was Union Pacific Railroad. I helped them with their faxing.

Undertoad 10-01-2018 05:40 PM

I hope I'm not bragging here... I lucked into an interesting gig is what happened!

Clodfobble 10-01-2018 07:41 PM

Dude, what? It's not bragging. It's awesome!

xoxoxoBruce 10-01-2018 09:38 PM

Nope, not bragging, just telling like it is. :thumb:

Gravdigr 10-02-2018 03:02 PM

It's a braggable point.

Nowt wrong with a bit of well deserved bragging to the people who are cheering you on.

Good show mate, I feel confident you have this.

Undertoad 10-06-2018 09:27 AM

Facebook, Google, and Linkedin tried recruiting me this cycle, but they all want people to move to Silicon Valley and I have no interest.

That would be bragging, except I know the game. It's not actually flattering. They have run out of people who voluntarily want to live in Silicon Valley, because it's entirely insane. Now they are going after anyone with a few correct keywords on their resume.

I have some of those keywords, but it doesn't mean I actually qualify for the positions they have. In local interviews, when people have bit on my keywords, they are always disappointed that I haven't done anything with their desired technology in quite some time. I never get any of the keywords jobs. My approach was to interest the recruiters in my keywords and then do a search to find jobs they are also offering which are not so cushy. "No I can't be your Perl programmer, I haven't done it in 20 years. But I can be your technical writer."

And then they wouldn't even hire me to be their technical writer. But at least it got me some decent bites.

Gravdigr 10-26-2018 11:02 AM

My radio plays through the night as a noise mask. This morning I woke up and there was a Beatles song playing. Then, they played another Beatles song. And then another, and another, and another. Five Beatles songs in a row.

I got up and checked the interwebz thinking, maybe, one of the remaining Beatles had died. I guess not.

And now I'm up.

Undertoad 12-01-2018 10:49 PM

Late Friday afternoon I was trusted to change the address (the A record) for the domain name of the largest potato chip brand in the USA.

~ it temporarily broke their website ~

Gravdigr 12-04-2018 04:00 AM

No, but the website was fucked.

TIHAW, try the train.

Made a verbal offer to buy a house today (that’s the way it works in Scotland.. all very informal.). Prolly won’t get an answer till Monday now. [emoji55]
