I don't know. If you like you can make a hard DNS entry on your computer, for cellar.org to be 207.245.110.178. I'm really hoping it won't change from that for a long time.

If you're browsing using the www. prefix, I suggest not doing that. I don't remember if it works.

Clodfobble 07-31-2006 05:17 PM

I've never used anything but the www. prefix, it definitely works...

How can I hide a link "behind" words, as BigV does below

highlight the words you want to use as the link, and then click on the link button, which looks like a globe with a chain link in front of it.
http://cellar.org/images/editor/createlink.gif
Then paste in the address into the box that pops up.

Spexxvet 08-04-2006 09:29 AM

Thanks

busterb 08-17-2006 04:58 PM

I post a question, then came back 2 hrs later and clicked new post, nothing. Then I went to the post and there was 2 replies and the answer. What?

Undertoad 08-17-2006 05:28 PM

Don't know - that could be many things. Say, if you hit refresh or F5 just before hitting new posts.

new posts operation has been really improving since vbulletin 3.5.

busterb 08-17-2006 06:42 PM

Nope. How about seeing something that caught your eye and clicked on before you clicked new post? Bet that's it.

BigV 10-23-2006 04:06 PM

Is it just me, or is the cellar's internal Search and Advanced Search function non-functional?

My research indicates that there are no posts containing the word "gun" by MaggieL. I'm pretty sure that's not correct.

Right - MaggieL, that's not correct.:p

I just used it. It works fine. Check MaggieL pistol, weapon, firearm, shoot you in the head and let the vultures have you, collectivist. They may work.;)

Search only finds four letter words.

(And longer than four.)

Undertoad 10-23-2006 04:37 PM

The search, for reasons unknown to me, does not index words of three letters or less.

(Edit: as HM sez)

Flint 10-24-2006 08:08 AM

To avoid false hits on word-fragments?

SteveDallas 10-24-2006 08:12 AM

If I'm not mistaken, it used to tell you this when you tried to search for a 3-letter word. In the current version, it just tells you it didn't find anything.

What?:p

BigV 10-24-2006 10:31 AM

Well, does the string "shouldn't" have some other secret stealth cloaking powers that make it unsearchable? Also no hits, and with no restrictions as to the poster. I'm just curious, I have already completed my research for the post that prompted these searches. You may answer or ignore as you see fit.

Edit: Apparently the answer is yes. And the reason is the apostrophe, it is a search killer. Shouldn't==nothing; shouldn==several hits. Go figure.

xoxoxoBruce 10-24-2006 05:55 PM

That apostrophe fools spell check, too.

Steve, yes...it used to tell you that 3 was too short. :smack:

mrnoodle 10-24-2006 11:51 PM

JI'm enjoying trying to shatter my good image for all time in the nsfw nekkid cellarite thread. I promise not to do anything illegal, or actually show my wee wee (yet). I respect your place more than my joke, so just quietly PM me when I become anything that approaches utter tastelessness or creepy or whatever. I'm just seeing if the so called worldly women are really up for my kind of corruption, or if they thought I would turn pink and run out giggling at the first mention of boobies. I'm also totally making it up as I go along, and have NO sexual interest in any of the weirdass stuff I hope to post.

Just felt like I had to say "It's still me". Not this guy in the thread.

Shawnee123 10-25-2006 08:13 AM

Hey noods...lay off the Jim Beam, will ya?:p

SteveDallas 10-25-2006 08:23 PM

What's up with the inline(?) pictures that just show up for me as the image file name, size, and number of views? Apparently most others can see them. (But not everybody.) What's required?

Undertoad 10-25-2006 09:05 PM

A system upgrade, I'm thinking.

SteveDallas 10-25-2006 09:13 PM

Really? If I'm not getting it and (apparently) 95% of everybody else is it seems like it's a client side issue?

Undertoad 10-25-2006 09:18 PM

A lot of people are complaining.

Flint 10-25-2006 09:21 PM

I can make the pictures stop displaying, by logging out. And vice versa. That's the only thing I've noticed.

Aliantha 10-25-2006 09:22 PM

I have to log in to view pics, which means no lurking and perving for me. :(

DucksNuts 10-25-2006 09:41 PM

Steve - have you looked in your user CP and in the "edit options" bit that you have the "visible post elements" ticked correctly??

Undertoad 10-25-2006 09:45 PM

I made a change to the options that might solve it. I still need to do the upgrade...

SteveDallas 10-25-2006 10:16 PM

Whatever you did seems to have fixed it! :D

Ibby 11-08-2006 08:16 AM

Not a question, but I figure I'll stick it here rather than start a new thread...

Thank you for dealing with bmwmcaw, Undertoad.

Shawnee123 11-08-2006 08:40 AM

Amen!

yesman065 11-08-2006 09:15 AM

I second that or third as the case may be.

BigV 11-08-2006 11:46 AM

I don't wish to be contrary for sport, but I miss bmwcaw. I think his attitudes, while **appalling**, are not uncommon. Ignorance like his is all over, but I rarely get to engage it in anything close to the dialog we've all "enjoyed" here. Mostly its shouting, cursing, and flippin the bird. I know it's been scarcely better here, unfortunately. But I have so few opportunities for civic intercourse with the minds that hold such ideas, that I regret losing one.

I won't miss the venom, but I will miss the chance to engage and learn.

Then again, what do I know? I'm purblind.

Undertoad 11-08-2006 11:49 AM

How do you engage with 11 smilies in a row?

Clodfobble 11-08-2006 11:52 AM

Only engage if the smilies are the opposite sex, for one thing...

lumberjim 11-08-2006 12:29 PM

i may have asked this before, but im not a re-reader. does the search feature not recognize words less than 4 letters long? i'm searching for a thread i started a long time ago called 'how old are you' and it wont match any or all of the words.

glatt 11-08-2006 12:37 PM

That's correct. Did you try Google?

glatt 11-08-2006 12:38 PM

How old are you?

lumberjim 11-08-2006 12:40 PM

thanks!

Flint 11-08-2006 12:57 PM

Thanks for including a poll on that one.

Clodfobble 11-08-2006 02:43 PM

And just think about all the things he's doing now that you'll appreciate in two and a half years... :)

You can't, of course.

I don't challenge for a moment your wisdom or authority to act as you have; that is clear I hope. I have considerable respect and regard for you. I try to throttle my annoying posts, myself. I saw very little of that from bmwcaw.

As to 11 smilies in a row, I just considered that a juvenile little tantrum, and ignored it as such. The other posts were certainly at the lower end of the scale in terms of eloquence and tolerance, but I did sense a certain sincerity, reality about them. That's what I will miss. The chance to try to hear the ideas behind the words. Here in the cellar there are special advantages, like no shouting (KINDA), no physical intimidation, and being post post post, it requires a certain amount of thought that strictly oral communication does not. Best of all, it was a two way street. I can read strictly expressive diatribes like his elsewhere, but only here could I have any hope of a conversation.

Let me repeat: I fully support your authority and your actions.

Let me add: thank you, sir, for this wonderful forum.

Flint 11-08-2006 03:12 PM

awww...BigV and UT sittin' in a tree...

Ibby 11-09-2006 09:01 AM

Hey UT... I can't donate through Paypal, seeing as how I dont have a credit card and I'm not too keen on telling the folks about this place... so next time I'm in the states I've decided I'm gonna drop a few bills of any denomination I can spare in the mail, where should I send them?

lhatcher 11-09-2006 09:01 AM

Lots of posts have what seem to be sounds. They look like *chirp* *chirp* *chirp* or *groan*

Are these really supposed to be something I can hear? I mean it's pretty obvious what the sound is, but I'm wondering if I just have some settings wrong or what.

Undertoad 11-09-2006 09:09 AM

PM sent, I.

lumberjim 11-09-2006 09:09 AM

yeah, there's a plug in. go here to get it.

lhatcher 11-09-2006 09:23 AM

Well THAT wasn't nice

But it was funny. And it's even funnier to realize that the only way lumberjim would know of that image is that somebody sent him there earlier. :D

lhatcher 11-09-2006 09:32 AM

"Good point," she said.. quickly saving this image to use on someone else later, even though it's not very nice.

lumberjim 11-09-2006 09:42 AM

i'm sorry. i would have put a smilie in there, but i didn;t want to spoil the trick. i owe you one. or, if you prefer, you owe me one.

lhatcher 11-09-2006 09:56 AM

No, it was good. Thanks
All that aside, no PM has been received. Does anyone know about the sounds question? Am I just being an idiot? (don't answer that)

Undertoad 11-09-2006 10:09 AM

I can see how you'd think that because some chat programs use that kind of mark when sounds are played, but here we tend to use asterisks for *emphasis*.

lumberjim 11-09-2006 10:14 AM

or overuse them *looks around for DanaC*

DucksNuts 11-10-2006 04:06 AM

Its coz they look soooo *pretty*

Elspode 11-10-2006 07:54 AM

******There is no such thing as *****overuse***** of *******asterisks*******...or...ellipsis...in...my...post...ings.

Stormieweather 11-10-2006 08:27 AM

Hey...I *like* using ellipsis in my writings...I intend for it to indicate a pause or sidetrack in my thoughts...that and I'm not a stickler for *proper* grammar.

Elspode 11-10-2006 09:55 AM

When I'm on a roll, writing, my printed expressions come out intentionally like my thoughts stream. Pretty scary, as there will be ellipsis, hyphens, parenthetical expressions, asterisks, quotes...if there was a punctuation mark for kitchen sinks, that'd be in there, too.

Ibby 11-11-2006 02:01 AM

Same here, dude
