Oh, so it's gonna be like that, Mr. Poopy Pants?

Cloud 07-03-2007 05:57 PM

huh. Sometimes I think the collective mental age here is -- older than that.

A LOT older!

elSicomoro 07-03-2007 06:18 PM

Sorry, Cloud...it doesn't offset the times when it is 3. :)

Except maybe on average, or median, or something.

If I scratch myself then type, can you smell it?

Uisge Beatha 07-13-2007 06:39 AM

Whew! :whofart: Man, that's rude.

Oh, um, sorry. It wasn't you, rk; I just farted.

I never did understand the Yahoo Slurp Spider. How come Google, the best search engine, doesn't have spiders running around? Someone in another thread brought up a good point, if you check out "who's online" you can find some interesting old threads based on what the spiders are looking at.

So, can someone explain spiders to me, and why Google doesn't have them?

Also, I noticed this morning that a spider was viewing a user profile. Why?

I also noticed the Yahoo Slurp Spider's user title is "Spider who has slurped" or something. Funny. I may change mine to "user who has used." Or, maybe not.

Uisge Beatha 07-18-2007 09:10 AM

As far as I can tell, someone actually registered an account under the name "Yahoo Slurp Spider." This may explain what you saw (viewing a profile), Shawnee.

Google has spiders too. The spiders keep reading the whole site, over and over, even the shit that doesn't change.

The guy that grabbed the Yahoo Slurp spider account hasn't used it in a year. He's only used his regular account 3 times since April, also.

Shawnee123 07-18-2007 09:13 AM

But how do they work? What are they for? I assume for search. Why do you never see Google spiders? I've seen Yahoo (all the time) and an occasional other one (msn maybe?) but never a Googspidey.

Are Googspidey's more stealthy?

Undertoad 07-18-2007 09:41 AM

Yahoo's system is just not very smart, is what I'm thinking. Yahoo spidering generates 8 times the number of hits that Google spidering does.

Shawnee123 07-18-2007 10:09 AM

I see. That makes sense.

But I luvs me some Google.

yesman065 07-18-2007 10:16 AM

I gotta say - I prefer google too - even though Yahoo is listed as the #1 most viewed site. (as per alexa.com)

I love my gmail too
