I went in to my profile / Contacts and Friends and tried to add myself to my friends list (I've only got two, and one doesn't exist anymore).

It told me "You can't be friends with yourself."

That just doesn't seem right, does it?

jimhelm 10-17-2011 07:45 PM

not in the biblical sense.....

HungLikeJesus 10-17-2011 07:47 PM

And what's the difference between a private message and a visitor message? I've never received a visitor message.

Aliantha 10-17-2011 07:49 PM

I got one once from sky saying she liked my profile pic. You don't get a notification though, so I didn't even notice it till I went to change something on my profile.

eta: maybe you do get a notification but I couldn't figure out what it was for? lol

HungLikeJesus 10-17-2011 08:05 PM

You guys are too nice.

Aliantha 10-17-2011 08:12 PM

Sshhhh...don't tell anyone!

skysidhe 10-17-2011 10:38 PM

The problem with visitor messages is that you have to go your profile page ever so often to even see one.

I'd forgotten about visitor messages. It's been a while.

You have to turn on notification in your User CP.

skysidhe 10-17-2011 11:05 PM

Did you see the beautiful photo of the sea? That was taken by a friend of mine.

Trilby 10-20-2011 12:01 PM

Hello, Toad.

Can we get a crone smilie or facsimilie of a crone smilie?

as an Elder Stateswoman, I feel the need for this thing.

Thank you for your consideration,

Brianna

Undertoad 10-20-2011 01:12 PM

I had a look and they don't make such things.

Undertoad 10-20-2011 03:53 PM

It is done. :crone:

Trilby 10-20-2011 08:20 PM

thanks, Undertoad!

YOU ROCK!!

infinite monkey 10-28-2011 11:49 AM

How do I make a gif work?

Sometimes it seems like they just work, and other times I just get a stagnant image.

tia!

Pete Zicato 10-28-2011 12:01 PM

Are you talking about posting a gif, or looking at one already posted?

infinite monkey 10-28-2011 12:02 PM

I got it. I think I hotlinked. I've NEVER done that illegal hotlink. But I just kept messing around until my gif moved.

So spank me. Fitting end to a perfect week. ;)

infinite monkey 11-02-2011 03:00 PM

59 people are looking at something in nothingland, but I don't know which thread is so popular!

GLATT!!!!!

infinite monkey 11-02-2011 03:03 PM

OK, 51 guests looking at http://www.cellar.org/showthread.php?t=21645

I was gonna make you figure it out, Mr Mod, but then I realized I could go to "who's online" to see what all the people in Nothingland were looking at.

I just found it odd. Bowling.

BigV 11-02-2011 03:54 PM

Fuck it, Dude.

Cotillion 11-07-2011 04:27 PM

Hi. I don't really have a question, I am just posting so I can confirm I'm not a spammer.

So, here it goes: I'm not a spammer.

ZenGum 11-09-2011 06:53 PM

That's exactly what a spammer would say ...

Hiya Cotillion :welcome: don't mind me, we're all mad here. Some more than others.

So ... what brings you here?

Nirvana 11-10-2011 01:11 PM

Way to go Zen scare the crap out of em right off the bat ;)

HungLikeJesus 11-12-2011 10:40 AM

Why is there a 30-second minimum time required between posts, even between different threads?

Clodfobble 11-12-2011 10:42 AM

So that you will stop spamming us, you big spammer!

sexobon 12-02-2011 12:28 PM

On the Board FAQ page, under each of the 3 main information categories, the first sub-topic link goes to the Search FAQ function at the top of each page instead of the related information paragraph. This seems to throw all the sub-topic links off from their related information paragraphs; so, the user has to scroll down to them instead of having them just appear in the window. In order for anyone to link to a particular sub-topic paragraph and have the appropriate information appear without having to scroll down to it, one has to use the URL of the sub-topic link below it (excepting the last sub-topic) as I did here.

Is this unavoidable with vBulletin? If it can changed, is it a simple matter? Would a sub-topic link to the search function added to the top of each sub-topics list realign things properly? If a redundant link at the top of each category isn't aesthetically appealing, could it be made nearly invisible by coloring it as users sometimes do with text in posts. Just curious, if this has been asked before I've forgotten the reply.

Undertoad 12-02-2011 12:33 PM

That is a little control-freaky, but I don't believe it's been asked.

Which browser are you using, and which version?

sexobon 12-02-2011 12:51 PM

It's just something I came across when I made the cited post today and it struck me as curious ... I'm using IE 8.0.6001.18702 with Windows XP-SP3.

Undertoad 12-02-2011 01:22 PM

I am thinking this works by design.

BigV 12-05-2011 08:28 AM

Welcome fellow "control freak"/observer. :)

I'm not experiencing this behavior. For me, the link "here" takes me to the word association thread, following that link I get to the participating paragraphs, not the editing paragraphs.

Also, for your first link, "Board FAQ", each of the links takes me to the expected corresponding paragraph.

This should be Announcements

This should be Registration

This should be My Public Profile (a top link, not leading to Search FAQ, but to the expected paragraph)

Firefox 8.0, XP SP3

sexobon 12-05-2011 12:27 PM

When I click on the Edit icon reply in my Word Association post, I still get the Editing paragraphs coming up centered in my open window (using the Participating paragraphs URL) even though I clear my cache every time I log off the internet. Your Announcements link shows that entire short topic in the bottom half of my open window along with the tail end of the preceding topic in the top half. Your Registration link shows none of that topic in my open window, just the end of the preceding long topic; so, I have to scroll down to Registration. Your My Public Profile link shows just the header and Search box in my open window and again I have to scroll down to the topic paragraph. Nothing's changed for me. Weird Science huh?

Thanks for running the Firefox 8 comparison. It would also be interesting to see whether or not other IE 8 users get my results; or, if it's just a gremlin in my particular setup.

BigV 12-05-2011 03:05 PM

You're welcome.

I launched IE8 (same computer) and ran the same tests. I got very erratic results, including lots of stuff like you described. Why don't you download Firefox and see what you get? Personally I like Firefox a LOT more than I like Internet Explorer, this is a textbook case study of why I prefer it.

Gravdigr 12-19-2011 03:48 AM

Disregard the "->webhosting" thing, that's just an ad.

I was curious why the Cellah might be down at such an odd time.

That's a screen grab from DownForEveryoneOrJustMe.com. They can tell you if the reason you cannot connect to a site is on the site's end or your end. Is it just you, or is it everybody?

Handy occasionally.

Undertoad 12-19-2011 09:03 AM

The Cellar becomes.... rather unresponsive for about 10 minutes every night while it backs itself up.

Gravdigr 12-20-2011 12:34 AM

I usually encounter that at 4am my time. Almost every night. And even then, it doesn't show up as being "down". It just sorta lags for a few minutes.

sexobon 12-20-2011 12:57 AM

Maybe UT can get the Cellar to make that sound that trucks make when they're backing up. :D

Is this a new cookie file, or have I actually come across one that I've never seen in almost 8 years?

Undertoad 12-30-2011 09:34 PM

he he B

Clodfobble 12-30-2011 09:37 PM

...That took me a minute, but I think you're saying "Option B," right? Sweet!

Undertoad 12-30-2011 09:51 PM

Yeah there haven't been any changes to the cookie table in a long time. In the olden olden days, people would suggest new cookies, but I don't think most people see 'em these days.

Clodfobble 12-31-2011 02:02 PM

The last one I remember being added was SteveDallas talking about how no rational view of heaven involves grass that needs mowing. How long ago was that? I'm feeling very old recently.

Pete Zicato 01-13-2012 01:32 PM

The Too big or too small thread should have a NSFW warning.

infinite monkey 01-13-2012 01:33 PM

Agreed.

Oh, and I've been wanting to mention: when you go to search now you can search for titles or posts right from the first box. You used to have to go to advanced search to search for thread titles. Thanks Tony.

glatt 01-13-2012 01:36 PM

done

Undertoad 01-13-2012 02:02 PM

But I hain't done nothing!

infinite monkey 01-13-2012 02:03 PM

Really? Well, you did used to have to go to advanced search. I swears it! :)

Clodfobble 01-13-2012 02:30 PM

I still have to go to advanced search for that. I can display the results as posts or threads from the drop down search box, but I can't narrow the search to being just a thread title unless I go to advanced search.

infinite monkey 01-13-2012 02:43 PM

Maybe that is what I was thinking. It seemed different to me but I don't use search that much.

fwiw..... doesn't work in general browse mode -title is too long for the nsfw to show before you click the link and the pic is right there.

Gravdigr 01-21-2012 04:03 PM

Why do I have to search for the word "pivo" (because that's the only word I remember that is specific to that thread) when I want to find the "Meanwhile In..." thread?

Why will the search only recognize words with between 4-8 letters?
