They may have worked out how to beat the CAPTCHA.

jimhelm 12-30-2010 12:53 PM

CAPTCHA always makes me think of this:

TheMercenary 12-30-2010 05:56 PM

Of WHAT!

monster 01-14-2011 08:04 AM

Can one "ignore" threads? Click a button so they just don't show?

Lamplighter 01-14-2011 09:44 AM

Yes, there are 2.
One is red and the other is yellow, in the top left corner of your screen.

monster 01-14-2011 11:11 AM

orly?

are you making ass-umptions?

Pico and ME 01-20-2011 07:32 AM

Why do the smilies move about? Every time I go look for a particular one, its never in the same place.

Shawnee123 01-20-2011 07:34 AM

Smilies are a nomadic people.

It took me a while to figure out what LL was going on about until I realized he is using the short bus of computers.

Undertoad 01-20-2011 08:21 AM

Why DO the smilies move about? I don't know!!!

Pico and ME 01-20-2011 08:25 AM

No really they do....whhhhhhyyyyyyyyy?????

Before I knew that's what was happening, I would go a little insane every time I had to hunt one down. It made looking for smilies really frustrating.

Undertoad 01-20-2011 08:29 AM

It's a mystery.

Shawnee123 01-20-2011 08:30 AM

It's kind of fun, unless you're in a hurry, to go on smilie safari.

Sometimes I wish they were alphabetical (by whatever name they're called.)

We should have a contest to see who can memorize all the smilie names and type them from memory.

I assumed it was due to the popularity of the various smilies?

Lamplighter 01-24-2011 07:45 PM

May I ask what is the legitimate use of "Anonymous" user name ?
Also, is it just for Dwellars, or do Guests have access to it too ?

I can see using "Anonymous" to hide very personal information,
but otherwise it seems quite cowardly to use it for political posts.

Maybe there are other times it is appropriate ?
Today, I noticed the No.of Members was 4 more than the No. of Dwellars being On-Line.
Is that the effect of logging on as "Anonymous", or just Profile Settings ?

monster 01-24-2011 08:23 PM

If people are logged in as anonymous, it will show up as "anonymous" being on line, unless anon has their account set to hide that. It's just a username like lamplighter or monster. But people can choose to hide when they are online, so they will be named in the online member listing or have a green dot by their posts, even if they are online.

guidelines? You want more rules? If you think someone's being cowardly, call them out or ignore their posts.

monster 01-24-2011 09:16 PM

OK, I just saw a post by anon in the wild west thread. Srsly? a 10 min video? How inflammatory can it be? It only takes a few seconds to call people morons. or morAns. I was bored by the time it started. i imagine they used anon because they were ashamed that was the best they could add to the conversation. Just ignore it and move on.

I know...I think anon was embarrassed that the video was so boring. What was the point of the video...robots talking about hand shaking?

Yeah, anyone who knows how can use the moranonymous log-in. Sometimes people just don't feel like themselves. :p:

sexobon 01-26-2011 03:09 AM

While I haven't had occasion to use the anonymous account, I can envision a few other uses for it:

A Dwellar who hasn't been active in the community for awhile may want to test the water before taking the plunge again without drawing attention to themself.

A Dwellar may no longer have regular access to the internet and doesn't want others to figure that out through the lack of timely responses to posts directed at their registered username.

A Dwellar may be concerned that another individual will take a post personally, due to that person's circumstances, when it's intended for general information.

A Dwellar doesn't want their spouse, significant other, BFF ... etc. to know that they dissent in their opinion about something.

A Dwellar may feel that their post will be criticized based upon who's doing the posting rather than the content of the post, especially if that Dwellar has an antagonist in the forums.

A Dwellar may be posting while under the influence.

A former Dwellar who was banned; or, who requested their account be closed can post from a new IP address if the password hasn't since been changed; or, they have been given the current password respectively.

Lamplighter 01-26-2011 08:39 AM

@ Sexabon, Thank you

Shawnee123 03-01-2011 02:17 PM

I took pictures with my phone of the river behind my place. I have NEVER seen it so high, and I've lived there for 5 years.

Anyway, how do I get them from my phone (Droid 2) to post on, say, the Cellar?

TIA!

edit: Let me put it this way, can I not email them to myself or something for later posting? I plugged my phone into the computer port but couldn't figure out how to get to the pictures????

I'm dumb at this stuff.

glatt 03-01-2011 02:20 PM

Email them to yourself. And upload them as attachments to the post.

Edit: Oh, you edited while I was answering. Yeah, you should be able to click some key when you are looking at the photo in your phone, and you will get the option to email the photo somewhere. I don't have an android, so I don't know the key you hit.

Shawnee123 03-01-2011 02:21 PM

OK, I'm going to sound really dumb. To email to myself from my phone: do I start at the picture or do I start at the email?

Shawnee123 03-01-2011 02:23 PM

I think I figured it out. Stay tuned.

Thanks glatt.

glatt 03-01-2011 02:28 PM

You can probably also go to "My computer" on your PC when you have it connected to your computer by the cable, and it ought to show up as a removable drive. Again, I don't know the Android at all, but you should be able to poke around in the folders of the removable drive and find the photos. I don't know what your data plan is, but you might be using up a lot of your data allowance for the month by e-mailing a bunch of pictures to yourself. ymmv and all that.

Shawnee123 03-01-2011 02:36 PM

Yeah, I need to read up on it. I haven't had the phone very long.

Thanks for the help. Pics posted, though they suck. It was dusk, though.

Shawnee123 03-11-2011 11:31 AM

When does one typically get the email for a new moniker?

Undertoad 03-11-2011 12:05 PM

Rephrase the question plz

Shawnee123 03-11-2011 12:18 PM

I have a new name. It says to wait for an email before I can post under the new name. I just wondered if that was an automatic process or if there was a lapse. No big deal either way, I'm in no hurry, I just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed something on my end. I kinda dum.

Undertoad 03-11-2011 12:19 PM

It should happen right away but if there is a glitch, let me know the new one in PMs and I will set it up.

Flint 03-11-2011 09:25 PM

She wants her new sock puppet, bro. Can u step it up plz? ppl have trollin to do

Shawnee123 03-12-2011 02:15 PM

No, not trolling. I'm tossing around changing my name. But it feels weird. Shawnee is quite prolific, but what could infinite monkey turn up?

And thanks for the help, UT. :)

infinite monkey 03-16-2011 03:49 PM

Yep, Shawnee was a good egg, but her time is done.

Those who know, know she is me. Those who don't, I don't care to see.
Smartasses come and smartasses go
But Shawnee girl, she had to know
That one day she would be laughed at
So bye from her. Now take my hat.

Happy Monkey 03-16-2011 03:52 PM

More monkeys!

infinite monkey 03-16-2011 03:57 PM

You're one of my idols. :)

limey 03-16-2011 05:00 PM

OMG! Shawnee's gone ape!

sexobon 03-17-2011 03:02 AM

Shawnee123 has been recruited into the IMF (Infinite Monkey Force).

"Good morning Ms. 123. As you know, the Word Association thread continues to upset the balance of Dwellars' post counts in The Cellar. Your mission Shawnee, should you decide to accept it, is to be the last person to kill that thread while operating under the username infinite monkey. As always, should you or any of your I.M. Force be caught or killed, the Moderators will disavow any any knowledge of your actions. Please berate this post in the usual manner. Good luck, Shawnee."

infinite monkey 03-17-2011 07:12 AM

(bows head in reverence)

I will do it for the common good.

I wouldn't rate your post a "B." It's definitely an "A" level post. So, I'm not B-rating, I'm A-rating. ;)

And you can call me infy, finny, nite, mon ;) monk, key, m'key, finite, nitenite, nk, on, ey, inf, Femininity Keno (anagram)

monster 03-17-2011 10:24 AM

You can call me Al.

infinite monkey 03-17-2011 11:22 AM

3 minute or 7 minute?

I noticed IM was almost as funnyness as shawnee and almost an infinite post stacker.

infinite monkey 03-17-2011 12:16 PM

:)

I can't seem to shake that. I'd go back to Shawnee if my post count wasn't attached like a freaking neon light to every post. It's embarrassing.

And, you know what? My friends would tell you that IRL I don't talk all that much. One of my patrons at the bar told my ex "You know what I like about her? She doesn't say anything unless she has something to say." I mean, I talk...and when I'm drinking beers with friends we can really really talk, but I'm not a chatterbox. Sometimes I'll go hours without saying a word.

But HERE? Jebus, what is wrong with me?

And, hard-boiled.

eta: Oh, monster...remember that smiley grinny guy who was so happy to see me at the Z's? He's the one who said that. ;)

Two buzzes: glatt would never say something like that, and you know that crap doesn't work on me.

Hi, have you met me? ;)

I know you were being tongue in cheek for that very reason. Hey,that's not my cheek!

footfootfoot 03-18-2011 01:39 PM

:p:

infinite monkey 03-28-2011 01:40 PM

So, when did the anonymous account become just for hanging out and surfing the Cellar? Time to change the password? :eyebrow:

Undertoad 03-28-2011 02:16 PM

Somebody probably just forgot they were logged in as that?

infinite monkey 03-28-2011 02:21 PM

Maybe, I've just seen it used, for fairly large increments of time, with no posting attached. Just looking around. I guess it's not really important (sorry) but it seems to tie it up if someone wanted to use it.

Maybe my point is that if someone just doesn't want people to know they're here they can change to IMBISIBLE mode, like I'm in. :) Maybe they didn't know about that option.

infinite monkey 03-28-2011 03:31 PM

Yeah, just sittin' there like a dum bass.

Yeah, well, they're gone now.

infinite monkey 03-28-2011 03:45 PM

Hahhahaaa!

sexobon 03-31-2011 07:50 PM

1. Can the Administrator and Moderators see the IP addresses of "anonymous" account users? Does an automatic log exist in case the account is abused?

2. Administrators can usually see the IP addresses of Guests. Is that included in moderators' privileges here?

Undertoad 03-31-2011 07:56 PM

yes mostly and yes

DanaC 03-31-2011 07:59 PM

Ummm 13 minutes isn't a hell of a long time. Maybe they'd gone in to post something and then needed to go look at another thread to google a detail before posting it.

glatt 03-31-2011 08:05 PM

It was a joke. Look more carefully at my screen shot.

DanaC 03-31-2011 08:14 PM

I was talking about IM's pic.
