I hope you'll drop by the new gaff Henry.

nah, I'm not doin' that

DanaC 10-14-2020 09:06 AM

Fair enough.

Even when we were in eighth grade, a disgruntled kid taking his ball and going home seemed particularly unfair.

you can keep the ball; I'll keep me: that seems fair, yeah?

Beestie 10-14-2020 04:50 PM

Well this is a bummer. Don't stop by as often as I used to but still think this place is nearly sacred on the internet.

Thanks, UT for making this place available for us knuckleheads all this time.

Moving house, Beestie. Do drop by, it’ll all look very familiar: https://cellar.boardhost.com/index.php

You pussy, you desert me in my time of need.
I was counting on you to teach about the brave new world order. http://cellar.org/2012/bwekk.gif

only thing I can speak about is bein' a free man, a subject you (and most everyone else here) have no interest in, so: you're on your own, bub

xoxoxoBruce 10-15-2020 02:14 PM

Poppycock, if you were a free man you wouldn't be here, because you'd be off the grid with no connection, no sewer, no water, no power, no schools.
Once you move to anywhere with those you're joining a community and accepting the responsibility it entails.

Thanks D for giving it some context.

It's not fair of me to bring up my general beefs. But I should say that the jaminhealth situation was only a small signal of the weariness I have had for a long while. Just doesn't net out fun anymore

I'm pretty sure it is me who has changed. "It's not you, it's me."

And there's this: 30 years is enough, man. Hell, my average stay with an employer is 3 years. There's nothing else I've done for such a long time.

DanaC 10-15-2020 02:21 PM

The thing is - most of us can come and go - take a break for a while and then come back. Difficult to break away when you need to if you are ultimately responsible for the site

I hope you'll stick around at the new place - coming and going without the albatross around your neck.

glatt 10-15-2020 02:25 PM

And where nobody will be weird around you because you are the owner.

Masturbate.

limey 10-15-2020 02:29 PM

I second what Dana and Glatt say. This must be very tough for you, UT, even if it’s also high time.

what is freedom to you? what you describe sounds a lot like license...a child's notion of freedom (golly gee wilikers, I can't wait till I grow up! then I can do whatever I want to!)

freedom is self-direction & self-responsibility; it's about choice & consequence

it's deliberation (self de-liberation)

lumberjim 10-15-2020 05:29 PM

So, like... If you miss it, you could just turn it back on?

Undertoad 10-15-2020 07:14 PM

The masturbating?

lumberjim 10-15-2020 10:55 PM

Well no. That would take like 3 days.

Maybe 4 at your age

hot_pastrami 10-20-2020 10:02 AM

Well now I am in a melancholy mood. Not that I wasn't already. *cough*

limey 10-20-2020 04:16 PM

Well, Mr Pastrami, these boards will remain as an archive, and you are very welcome at the new place (https://cellar.boardhost.com/index.php). Please do come on over.

I salute you, sir! There's crap on this series of interconnected tubes that's disappeared, that's less than five years old. Hell, some of it less than two. You've gone far above and beyond any reasonable length of time for a venture like this, and you've done yeoman's work these past decades to keep it going. And that's true regardless of what your reason for shutting things down is.
