Jim's sockpuppets would be thanking him all the time!

The two forums I'm familiar with which use rep points do allow people to turn that feature on or off. One of these forums also allows people to "thank" posts and you get thanked whether you want to be or not.

DanaC 12-03-2012 06:01 AM

Having had a bit of a think about it, reading others' thoughts on it, I've changed my mind. I don't think rep or like/thank options would be a good addition to the Cellar.

They work brilliantly on the gaming forum I frequent...though not everybody thinks so...and they did end up changing the system to end the 'rep wars' and spates of 'gangrepping'...

It works on a gamer site...because we just gamify it. When the game's down and people are bored they take their guildwars to the boards and play them out through the rep system.

Nowadays since they changed the system it's nowhere near as gameable.

Shame, really, I used to like the old rep system. The new one doesn't allow personal comments to be sent with rep points. They used to be fun. Now is more like a post rating system.

sexobon 12-08-2012 03:50 AM

Have you ever noticed that anonymous posters look angry?

BigV 12-10-2012 06:40 PM

not really. I think he wooks tweet, myself.

Spexxvet 12-18-2012 10:19 AM

I'm using firefox 17.0.1. Starting today, I'm seeing some words in blue, double underlined in blue, with links to ads. For instance, my post about Johnny O. Taking off his clothes, the word clothes was underlined and blue, and when I hover over it, an ad appears.

WTF? Is it a virus?

Undertoad 12-18-2012 10:42 AM

Yup, time for malwarebytes

Spexxvet 12-18-2012 10:49 AM

Will do.

You'd think Norton 360 Premier edition would take care of that.

busterb 12-18-2012 08:16 PM

New post. When I click on new post, then a thread, lots of times there are more on page before?

Flint 12-18-2012 09:12 PM

Norton was good when it was Norton.

I wokeup while washing dishes other day. DUH. Because I am clicking on LAST POST. Therefore maybe many before last post, I hope so. :smack:

sexobon 12-23-2012 03:22 PM

UT, are you going to un-ban anyone for Christmas this year? Could be the start of a new holiday tradition.

Undertoad 12-23-2012 04:06 PM

I let all those Chinese IP addresses back in, if they can answer the tallest mountain question and not have their message killed by Akismet, they can participate

orthodoc 12-23-2012 04:28 PM

Wait, shouldn't there be three tasks?

sexobon 12-23-2012 04:39 PM

We've already had a Christmas miracle ... 2013 is going to be the Chinese Year of the Toad.

Shawnee123 12-23-2012 07:25 PM

People have been asking about the Shawnee Resurrection, and i explained it somewhere, but I don't want to be confusing so I'll explain here.

I wanted to use the cellar email function to try to contact Gravdigr. The email for IM was one i rarely remember i even have, so i updated. It now must be OK'd before i can post from the account.

The toad has a lot on his plate and i don't know if a mod can do it. No hurry, though, i just wanted to explain the Festivus Miracle of the return of Shawnee.

ZenGum 12-23-2012 07:38 PM

it's the second coming! They Mayans were right - just off by a day or two.

Shawnee123 12-23-2012 08:16 PM

Otath he waugh pe qua.

I took a look and tried to change you from "awaiting confirmation" to "confirmed" but it looks like I don't have that power. I can make the change in the little drop down menu, but there's no way for me to save the change.

So we can celebrate the miracle of Shawnee for a little while longer.

Undertoad 12-24-2012 07:46 AM

this is done

Big smile.

infinite monkey 12-24-2012 11:10 AM

Thanks UT! :)

jimhelm 12-24-2012 12:38 PM

So, wujjah hear from digger?

BigV 03-13-2013 12:15 PM

UT:

I propose we rename this smilie :ggw: to peekaboo.

Undertoad 03-13-2013 12:19 PM

Can't rename, I think, can only add

footfootfoot 03-13-2013 12:50 PM

Uhh that's a little creepy to me, linking that smiley to Beans video.

infinite monkey 03-13-2013 12:53 PM

Chocolatl 03-13-2013 04:20 PM

She's a baby playing peekaboo, not a gal showing off her jubblies!

BigV 03-13-2013 04:21 PM

I'm glad you got my point.

Peekaboo.

Nirvana 03-13-2013 08:52 PM

umm what? :headshake

Chocolatl 03-13-2013 09:09 PM

No, I don't, actually. Kinda bugged that something that was intended to be cute and innocent ended up linked to something adult. :-/

Big Sarge 03-13-2013 11:13 PM

it is cute as can be!! she is so precious. i don't think he meant any harm, just a bad choice of trying to make a joke.

Nirvana. Something about preferences.
Green means others can see that you are online.
Grey - Others can see that you are offline.
Red means you are in stealth mode and other cannot tell whether you are on or offline.
...I think.

Undertoad 03-24-2013 09:55 AM

She means the 0 happening in between the posts. I've never seen that, it must be a glitch of SOME sort, does it happen regularly?

footfootfoot 03-24-2013 02:43 PM

That's infi's O face.

My experience is that code remnants can appear like that when a page hasn't thoroughly loaded over a slower internet connection like dial-up. If it doesn't disappear after refreshing the page or happens with a high speed connection, then I'd look for other causes.

Nirvana 03-24-2013 07:07 PM

Thanks UT and SOB < LOL

note to self: do not abbreviate Sexobon

My ancient laptop finally died for real, and the replacement came with Windows 8. (And, meh. I'm not as miserable as I thought I'd be with it, though I do pretend the stupid Metro interface doesn't exist, I always go straight to the desktop.)

Anyway, my new laptop can't view embedded YouTube videos on the Cellar. I get audio, but just a white screen in the video box. I can see them on other sites. I looked into the status of Flash, but Adobe told me that it is embedded in the code of Windows 8 and there's nothing to install or update.

Is this a Vbulletin thing, or an "I'm missing some stupid local add-on" thing?

Pete Zicato 04-03-2013 12:59 PM

Is there a setting you need to enable to let flash work in ie?

Clodfobble 04-03-2013 06:49 PM

Not that I can see. And the videos do work in other sites.

It's not a huge deal, I often am not able to watch videos anyway (either because I'm on my phone, or because any sound will give my position away to the kids,) and when I want to I can just open them in a new window and then they work.

You are a stitch.

Clodfobble 04-04-2013 06:21 PM

Update: I suddenly began having problems getting Yahoo mail to work with my browser as well. Who the hell knows.

I switched to Firefox, which Yahoo mail is fine with, and the embedded Youtube videos on the Cellar are working this way as well. I honestly prefer IE to Firefox, but at this point, fuck 'em. I can't use something that no one else is compatible with.

jimhelm 04-05-2013 12:59 AM

Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

I'm a wee bit confused (nothing new there!) ... registered, validated, took me to a page suggesting I update my profile (always a good idea when a new poster - first thing I do is check out the newb's ID ) but clicking on the link from various places tells me this is verbotten.

I mean I find it intriguing that I can't tell you who I am an am a mystery until such times as I've posted sufficiently for you all to figure that out.... but it does seem a tad inefficient.

Or have I broken something already and shall hence with be turfed out on my ear?

glatt 04-08-2013 01:45 PM

We had an unusually bad time with spammers and made things more restrictive to keep them out, but apparently made them a bit too restrictive. And there may still be a few kinks to work out.

All that is to say that I have no idea what the problem is, but it's almost certainly not you. It's probably some glitch.

Welcome to the Cellar!

Ocean's Edge 04-08-2013 01:47 PM

ta' glad to be here..... been lurking around for a wee bit, seems like a nice place you've got here

BigV 04-08-2013 03:57 PM

Welcome to the cellar Ocean's Edge.

Please let the record show that I resisted the urge to make a joke using the word "beach".

Ocean's Edge 04-08-2013 04:30 PM

you mean the one "Life's a beach and then you die!" ?

:D

BigV 04-08-2013 04:35 PM

Tha's one. :)

Nor did I describe you as the tufted monocotyledonous marsh plants belonging to one of the Shen family, Scottish branch.

Ocean's Edge 04-08-2013 05:10 PM

Well, I imagine not. I'm known in some circles as Captain Obvious.

Parts of it are.

Sundae 04-14-2013 07:30 AM

Okay, am going mad. I need to move some messages from my Inbox to a folder I've made ("Contacts")
I have obviously done this before, as I have quite a few contacts in there.
But I am stumped as to how I did it.

Should be an easy question to answer for anyone with half a brain.
Probably doesn't help that I didbn't dleep last night and am watching Dr Who on BBC catch-up.
