Cookies. Did u log out?

duck_duck 04-28-2007 06:11 PM

Yes I always log out when I leave. Then I come back later and read before logging in and it will sometimes show me as online.

freshnesschronic 04-28-2007 06:16 PM

Again, it's cookies. And you probably x'd "remember me".

Drax 05-10-2007 07:21 PM

New guy: I was going to say hi in a new post, but apparently I must reply to a 'few' existing threads before started my own to prove I'm not a spammer.

So, how many is a 'few'?

xoxoxoBruce 05-10-2007 08:08 PM

Welcome to the cellar drax.:D
A few is until we get your dossier from Homeland Security.

Weird Harold 05-10-2007 08:15 PM

I don't know, I haven't been inspired to start any myself. Welcome.

Well, all I can say is that I don't spam, and I'm not a troll (at least, I don't think I am). ;)

Question: No avatars? I had planned to use my avatar from EI.

monster 05-10-2007 08:57 PM

Nope. No avatars. Let your posts speak for themselves. ;)

Welcome :D

Ok. Anyway, here's the one I would have used:

1. New users can't post threads until they are confirmed non-spammers. (Reply to a few existing threads to prove you're a real person.)
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
3. Or it could be something else you don't have permission to do. Sorry!

I had better stop getting this message by tomorrow night at 11:00PM Central Time, or I'm outta the Cellar.

Patience is not one of my virtues in this case.

Drax 05-11-2007 12:24 AM

I guess I've been "heard." I just started a new thread in Nothingland.

SteveDallas 05-11-2007 12:51 AM

Relax. If you had seen some of the spamage we've had over the years, you'd appreciate the reason for the delay.

And, welcome.

Drax 05-11-2007 01:07 AM

Well, during registration, I had to enter a validation code (standard S.O.P. for vBulletin boards). Shouldn't that have been enough to prove I'm not a spambot?

Undertoad 05-11-2007 01:08 AM

No, they hire people in underdeveloped countries to get past that.

Sundae 05-11-2007 03:23 AM

As well as containing the spam, it does mean new users get to know the place better before creating new threads. If someone has a burning issue they are desperate to discuss they will be willing to wait before starting a thread - after all they can always take advantage of our thread drift policy...

And if it's not a burning issue then it can obviously wait until the ban is lifted. If you need your own thread so badly you might be better off on a faster moving forum (using "you" to refer to everyone apart from me, not to refer to Drax specifically)

The only situation in which I can see anyone being disadvantaged by the rule is a long time reader who knows this place well and wants a Cellar opinion on something current.

Um, could be a little wait there... we can't find the hard drive.

But I have a feeling the information will soon be available on the internets.

Oh yeah. Welcome, Drax, to the cellar. Don't take it personally.

Question about Signatures

Any rules on siggys? Image size? Whether or not they're allowed? Text line limit? Text size limit?

jinx 05-11-2007 05:51 PM

UT, have you been advertising the cellar on myspace or something lately? Just curious...

Drax 05-11-2007 05:57 PM

I hate MySpace myself.

Our demographics seem to be shifting, eh? I predict a very strange summer 'round here.

monster 05-11-2007 06:44 PM

Don't know about rules, but people will soon let you know if your sig pisses them off!

Did you look around at all before you joined? No, you can't put that avatar in you signature.

Elspode 05-14-2007 12:29 AM

Hey, the drugs have worn off, and I just noticed that the Meta header has changed...when did that happen?

Undertoad 05-14-2007 07:08 AM

Couple weeks ago. Too many people were confused by the word "friendly", thinking it meant they were never to receive any sort of criticism or negative reaction whatsoever.

Ummm...yeah. No rules about graphic siggies though:

Quote:

There are only three RULES of the Cellar.

1. Do not try to break the law using the Cellar.
2. Do not try to break the Cellar.
3. Do not be "intolerably irritating".

The meaning of that last item is of course open to interpretation. But basically, if you are a troll, attention whore, moron, spammer, single-issue hammer, or otherwise want to hurt or "test" this community, you WILL be removed and banned.

If you post a link on your first post, expect your message to disappear, and your account to be banned. If you post a message that looks like a pitch in any way, expect your message to disappear. If you post a "real" message on your first post, and a pitch message on your second, expect both messages to disappear. We are extremely effective at this, and we are paying attention.

Lastly, this is a forum for adults, and we assume the content here is likely to be obscene or possibly offensive. All messages express the views of the people who wrote them.
I also need clarification on rule 2.

You'll find that rule 3 can cover a lot of things without having to spell them all out.

In my time here, I never saw the word "friendly".

Always be gentle and kind to the Cellar. Do not shoot holes in the walls. Never subject the Cellar to globothermonuclear war. Wash hands before leaving the restroom. Etc.

I know what rule 3 is all about. I'm asking about rule 2.

In whose opinion? To me, sarcasm is the best kind of answer when using humor to extinguish the flame of a silly question.

Rules schmules- did you see any graphic siggies? If they were allowed, there would have been someone sporting one.

You can go for ASCII art or smilies, though.

xoxoxoBruce 05-14-2007 03:42 PM

But, but, There was no sign in the lobby saying I couldn't shit in the theater.

Undertoad 05-14-2007 05:47 PM

Exactly. Rule 3 is rule 3 partly because you can't possibly spell out every rule. It covers "the rest", roughly.

Do not try to break the Cellar refers more to cracking/hacking, denial of service attack, etc.

Highlight the text you want to make into a link, then press CTRL-k.

Tested in IE; I don't have Firefox available at the moment.

BigV 05-30-2007 05:47 PM

test

test failed.

I typed "test" Ctrl-a which highlighted the word test then Ctrl-k and nuttin. FF 2.0.3 here. This is in the quick reply box. Alt-s posts. Still searching.

It moves the cursor to the search box to the right of the address box in the browser. Must be a FF thang.

Happy Monkey 05-30-2007 05:50 PM

Oh, well. Try more CTRL-* commands. That's how I found K for IE.

There was a pic I remember seeing some time ago, but couldn't break it down into a meaningful time frame. I searched and searched everything I could think of, and can't find it. I really wanted to see that pic again. Any cellar search advice? Is there a way to search for just posts with attached pictures?

glatt 06-07-2007 03:28 PM

Describe it to us. That may be the easiest way to find it.

Shawnee123 06-07-2007 03:29 PM

Nah. It's silly.

Item #2: maybe, let me see how difficult.

busterb 06-09-2007 09:26 PM

Why, in my grisr mill post are the words grist and mill in yellow? I never change the text color.

Clodfobble 06-09-2007 09:34 PM

Did you do a search for the words "grist mill" to find the thread? It will highlight any words you did a search for in yellow.

Look at the address bar in your browser: does it say

cellar.org/showthread.php?t=13648&highlight=grist+mill

or

cellar.org/showthread.php?t=13648

The extra bit at the end of the top link is what tells it to highlight words.

busterb 06-09-2007 10:52 PM

Maybe. I just made a shortcut so I could find it later. Just went back now, by looking under quality images. No yellow words. Damn your bright! Thanks. My very own translator. :bolt:
BU BU BUT Why in yellow, to hi light the search term?

Clodfobble 06-10-2007 08:24 AM

Yeah, just to help you see the word you were searching for.

busterb 06-10-2007 12:50 PM

All I see is a yellow blob. Kinda like when some asshat post in white. :flush:
