Fixing shit is very gratifying

Griff 12-15-2019 07:46 AM

Damn straight.

fargon 12-15-2019 08:26 AM

Amen.

sexobon 12-15-2019 08:30 AM

That's why we have "FIFY."

Gravdigr 12-15-2019 02:22 PM

Breaking shit that desperately deserves it can be very satisfying also.

Hoping Polo Girl's long-planned Spring Break trip might actually work out. She's the biggest Harry potter Freak and doing a masters degree in Florida. So visiting the Wizarding World was immediately on her plans once accepted. And now COVID. Many parks in Orlando have closed. She drove down today. universal says it's closing on Monday. Hoping beyond all hope she gets her visit in on Sunday. She's too knackered from driving to do it tomorrow. Please stay open per your aannouncement, Universal

It needs to be this year. Next Spring she wanted to do Starwars, But... highly unlikely her required dig in Rome is going to go ahead this summer, so she might have to be fulfilling that course requirement next spring

xoxoxoBruce 03-14-2020 04:41 AM

Could be a lot less crowded on Sunday.

Undertoad 03-14-2020 09:04 AM

That's what I thought. Might be awesome..... and the employees still need to get paid. You don't go to a theme park to be social, just don't huddle up in line, use hand sani, don't touch your face, it'll be fine. fine. Then stay away from old people.

xoxoxoBruce 03-14-2020 11:25 PM

The biggest thing in her favor is she's young and healthy, so even if exposed to it she'll have flu symptoms for a week or two then be immune.

monster 03-15-2020 01:07 AM

Not sure about the immunity, don't think there's sufficient evidence yet...but yes, I'm not shitting bricks about this venture. I think she should do it. She is young but wise, it will be fine. She just needs to stay away from her more aged profs when she gets back

xoxoxoBruce 03-15-2020 01:51 AM

Your right I just read the immunity is a no go. :(

Is that Hogwarts regulation dress, I was expecting jeans, should have known better.:smack:

monster 03-15-2020 07:23 PM

My child does not wear jeans. Never has. She has one pair of jeggings she wheels out if there's a requirement for a team pic or motorcycle training course....

They had a fab time, no lines, perfect weather front row on all the rides, I'm so happy :D

xoxoxoBruce 03-16-2020 12:09 AM

That's great, better than a visit in normal times.

BigV 04-20-2020 12:22 AM

Being a parent is the hardest work I've ever loved.

Also the hardest work I've ever done.

BigV 04-20-2020 12:22 AM

Fuck.

sexobon 04-29-2020 02:52 PM

I got a letter in the snail-mail today that was a little bit thick as if it had some padding in it. It was a government mailing from the village I live in. I wasn't expecting anything and wondered what it could be. It was a half dozen surgical masks wrapped in a half sheet of paper with a message encouraging either using them; or, if not needed, giving them to someone who could.

Griff 04-30-2020 06:52 AM

Beats a lawsuit.

Gravdigr 05-01-2020 01:50 PM

Better than a kick in the face with a golf shoe.:/

BigV 05-05-2020 09:43 PM

Something I've mentioned elsewhere, the paperwork for my new job (hopefully). Forms are my kryptonite. I read the instructions as carefully as I can and I usually overthink the expected answer, get wrapped around the axle, strain myself until I finally give up and just enter the answer they wanted in the first place. Or at least my best effort.

Wish me luck.

Griff 05-06-2020 06:27 AM

If the Covid don't get us the paperwork will. good luck

Urbane Guerrilla 05-10-2020 10:32 PM

As of yet nobody's successfully memed up the Corvid COVID.

Clodfobble 05-10-2020 11:43 PM

Two more weeks of school. Gotta figure out what the hell we're doing for the month of June.

monster 05-10-2020 11:53 PM

I could make you some huge word searches with a few of the words not actually in there?

Griff 05-14-2020 04:17 PM

These ass-clowns have managed to close the Michigan legislature.

sexobon 05-14-2020 07:19 PM

I heard the Michigan legislature is nonessential anyway.

My wife did this last month. It was much more difficult than I expected it to be, but she did it.

Highlight of the whole experience was the rooster crowing in the background of one of her many calls with the carrier, and the guy acting a little flustered every time it crowed.

fargon 05-21-2020 09:15 AM

Keryx just did that and it was easy.

It's still in progress -well my service is switched but... the rest of it is ongoing
but I am using it right now. I hate all of the ring tones, alarms etc and it keeps displaying screenfuls of info about itself at inappropriate times like when the alarm was going off so I can't read them before I need to dismiss them. I feel old and useless because I don't like change in this way. Also, this was another of the things best always took care of because he liked it and I hated it :(

Gravdigr 07-04-2020 10:47 PM

Monster The Cat was headed for the tall and uncut last time she was seen.

Just after the fireworks started.

monster 07-04-2020 11:14 PM

Monster will be fine.

Gravdigr 07-05-2020 12:55 PM

And she is!

She tucked right into the Capt D's leftovers this morning...

Dis kitteh do not like noise. She's MIA all day when Popdigr mows the yard.

monster 07-05-2020 03:40 PM

yay.

BigV 07-05-2020 03:47 PM

I love good news!

Griff 07-05-2020 04:18 PM

Excellent, now quiet down!

monster 07-12-2020 05:23 PM

Polo Girl is coming to visit! Originally I thought it was Tuesday, but then a week or so ago I checked my calendar and it was showing up on Thursday. OK. I just went to check my email for flight number/time -turns out it is Tuesday after all. I apparently have the flight correctly in my calendar at the right time on Tues, and then the multi-day event incorrectly starting Thursday. Fortunately, I was unusually ahead of myself with cleaning her room (because procrastinating taxes) so I have over half of it steam vacced and dry and the other half planned for this evening, but it's a little tighter than I had thought.... :D Still, I'm still way ahead of where I usually would be so there's that... (no taxes done, tho.... i've kind of glanced at them and filled in two lines...)

Turns out she thought it was Wednesday til she checked earlier....

She made it! Just in case Florida wasn't Covidious enough, her layover was in Dallas. Nobody tell Big Gretch ;)

We’re packing up after a week with the young people... Mama’s gonna need some comfort.

monster 07-18-2020 08:54 AM

She's having a nice time socially distantly catching up with her friends in the back yard. It s going to be hard when she leaves knowing where she's going back to, but her college semester starts mid August. It is all online, but she wants to be in her own place with her own things and her significant other

Who the f*ck knew that the University of Phoenix was so far ahead of their time?

I wish her the best. :)

Was Trump University just by mail?

Griff 07-18-2020 08:20 PM

Hmm... maybe he knows more about mail fraud than we thought.

xoxoxoBruce 07-20-2020 12:56 AM

Silly bunny, he know all there is to know about every type of fraud.:smack:

Diaphone Jim 07-21-2020 11:32 AM

At least two things are making me a tad apprehensive:

Ten days, no Gravdigr.

Can't find missing cellarites category.

monster 07-21-2020 10:16 PM

he'll be fine. He has a Monster. (Uppercase M)

monster 08-17-2020 12:30 AM

I was very apprehensive that working the election (which is a paid position but I did not do it for that) would completely fuck up my unemployment insurance -not just for that week but onward....

...but it seems that it maybe didn't. I just filed for the last two weeks, and my payment was reduced for the first (which included election day) but was regular for the second.

I guess time will tell for sure...

Gravdigr 09-06-2020 10:58 PM

What might be making you a tad apprehensive?

Put my little Cherry Bomb (m'car) is the carspital Thursday. I've got a laundry list of things that need to be addressed, and decided to take care of a couple of them. The brakes are completely wonky. The rears are jerky when ya first start the car, and they lock up the first coupla times ya use them, then they're fine, well, they're ok. I'm not sure if the fronts work at all.

Also, most of the time, on a cold start it wants to idle at like 2000 rpm. It's an old throttle body fuel injection, and no telling what's wrong there, I know fuckall about that.

Between not-so-easy-to-find-parts and labor, I'm expecting to spend right around a thousand bucks.

And haven't even started on the front end. It needs a bumper cover, the actual steel bumper behind it, brackets for same, the hood latch mount, a headlight bucket, two headlights, two parking lights, air dam. The ragtop has a hole that needs to be re-repaired, too. The weather-stripping is also pretty sad in spots.

I may not live long enough to get this car right.

monster 09-07-2020 11:33 PM

you will.

xoxoxoBruce 09-08-2020 01:15 AM

You are not obligated to get it right, just good enough to make it safe and you're comfortable with it.

Gravdigr 09-08-2020 10:26 PM

Heh, but I want it right...

The car doctor $till ha$ it, btw. Not $o much a$ a phone call.:thepain:

I fergot about the windows. Only the driver's window behaves like it oughta.

And I need to investigate a better fix for that top...

I said I would top out my investment in this car at $2500. That included the purchase price (I got $200 in the car, not counting what Uncle Donald gave me back in the spring:D).

A $1000 repair bill will put me perilously close to that number.

well then if it looks like heading over, pick and choose the most important bits, and save the rest for later or leave them be forever. If you got it perfect immediately, you'd be bored AF after all. Just do enough to make you happy
