What are the odds?

Thursday: Our director of PR, CFO, and some other people meet with the local convention & visitors bureau to talk about promoting a new building as a conference center. One recommendation: Have a separate marketing presence for the conference center as opposed to the rest of the institution.

The following Wednesday: I'm sitting in a meeting where I hear this repeated. I think, "Oh, we should get a domain for email addresses and maybe a web site." When the meeting breaks I speak to the PR director (who was also there) and we decide to go for somethingorother.com and .org. I go back to my office and go to register the domains.

.org is available. .com is already taken.

It was created on Monday.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Who got it? :3_eyes:

That's the hell of it... the whois doesn't say... and if I look at it now, it says it was created this past Saturday (not the original date). And if I try to whois it at the whois server belonging to the registrar in question, it says there's no information available.

I don't know what's going on, but I'm sure it's a scam.

Sounds like someone with an inside track to the deal got out there and registered those first. Did you try .biz?

SD, did it work?
Will you be able to make a killing on the name?
Have they found out it's you?

Verrry funny Bruce.

Well I went to the joker.com web site, where I buy mnost of my domains, and looked at the status again. And just for the hell of it I sent an email to support & said, I tried to get this domain, it said it was taken, but when I clicked for the whois information it says it wasn't found. The answer came back, gee, it's not taken, you should be able to do it. So I went back in and everything worked.

When I had visited the domain before there was a page from Revenue Direct there. So I dunno what was going on. But it's fixed now. (For the record, we could have gone along quit nicely with the .org address.)
