Mountains snapped from space

Although this looks like a picture of a typical mountain range
shot from an airplane, this is what the Himalayas look like
out the window the International Space Station.

The picture was taken with a hand-held 35 mm camera
from 230 miles above the earth.

Thats amazing!!!!!!!

It doesnt look like it was taken SO FAR UP!! -- It does indeed look like someone in an airplane took it!!!

Although it looks as if it was taken from a cruising aeroplane, it was actually snapped by a hand-held 35mm camera looking out of the ISS window at an altitude of 370 kilometres (230 miles) above the Earth.

So I missed that a decade and a half ago, nice find.

It's interesting archeology to see how small pictures were back then. Even when you click through to the link, it's a tiny picture.

Dhaulagiri, seventh-highest peak in the world (26,794 ft/8167 m), dominates the skyline in this image taken by the Expedition 1 crew from the International Space Station using a high-magnification lens. Although it looks like a view from a high-altitude airplane, the photograph was taken out of the window of the Space Station from an orbital altitude of 200 nautical miles (370 km).

The pic was taken with a Kodak DCS460 Electronic Still Camera, which is a tad more than your standard 35 mm camera, with an 800 mm focal length.

At the Moar Info link in my post, there is a 3060 x 1919 pixel (downloadable) version of the pic. Other sizes, also.
