Does Anybody Realize How Powerful We Are

fargon • Jan 19, 2006 2:24 pm
Even little ole' me, I went to Wal-Mart and $375.00 and a DSL connection later I was set up. A whole new world opened up, I can chat with people all over the world, and spread my radical right wing politics around. In the last 5 years I have seen an explosion in internet use. People you would never think even knew what a computer was are on line.
:lurker:

You're $375 is spreading enough right wing agenda.

Yes, but what they didn't tell you is that everyone writes and no one reads when it comes to politics. No one ever changes their mind whether it be a pig fight or a healthy debate.

I'm sure glad you got broadband, so we can deliver ads to you faster. :D

The best thing I love about right wingers is how The Drudge Report is such a cash cow for us and how useless pop-up blockers have become.

Are you sure you're not restricted to chatting with China? After all, it's a Walmart setup!
Undertoad • Jan 20, 2006 2:54 pm
You get to spread your thinking around, true;

But you ignore half the power of the net if you don't allow others to spread their thinking to you.
Tonchi • Jan 20, 2006 4:04 pm
I wish it WERE thoughts that were being spread. That would be a true worldwide democratic revolution. Unfortunately, what is happening instead is only EGOS are being loaded. The internet is caving in because nothing is ever purged, and - if you do not know the specific url - a search engine will never be able to put you in contact with 99.9% of what is "out there", even though it is taking up most of the space. The fact that any moron, or 10 billion of them, can post a webpage about their thoughts is NOT an improvement

The next Disney movie - Big Egos: Fully Loaded
fargon • Jan 20, 2006 11:47 pm
And my EGO is the biggest of them all!!!
wolf • Jan 21, 2006 2:20 am
I'm pretty sure that's Lumberjim's. We tried to have it measured, but it broke the gauge.

From zero to Godwin's Law in four hours, transatlantic.

And they say there's no progress...that would have taken *days* over Fidonet.
xoxoxoBruce • Jan 21, 2006 11:22 pm
Naw, Maggie, it has to be said in anger, doesn't it? As opposed to casual reference.
Troubleshooter • Jan 22, 2006 8:53 am
And I think it has to be an inaccurate description as well.
NotAnAngel • Jan 22, 2006 5:52 pm
I am also the proud new owner of a Broadband Pack.. Still in its box........

Ive done pretty well without it all things considered. If I should perk up with some * DESPERATELY NEEDED SPREADING* ideas I may open said box and  begin reading the instructionsssss. I think Im in the throes of Political Forum Burnout. Be gentle.
footfootfoot • Jan 22, 2006 9:05 pm

like how NPR was coopted by the cia
when radio free eurpoe became an anachronism. Get your USA propaganda while listening to top 40 classical interspersed with corporate press releases dressed up as news stories.

Don't worry, they've already pegged your demographic and they are designing a car *just *for * you.

I shit you not.

Feel like living off the grid? We've got sometihng for you too.
xoxoxoBruce • Jan 22, 2006 9:45 pm
I shop Gaiam regularly. :)
wolf • Jan 22, 2006 9:51 pm
So do I. It's really fun to watch as my mailman scratches his head when I get stuff from them and cheaper than dirt on the same day.
footfootfoot • Jan 23, 2006 12:26 pm
That is why you guys are so powerful!
wolf • Jan 23, 2006 2:24 pm
I have been considering Gaiam's solar cell phone charger kit ... I have a hand crank one as part of my end of the world supplies, but it's a rather time-consuming process to actually get it to charge the battery to any significant degree. The solar one is a set it and forget it device. Of course, if the end of the world comes by the sun going out, the handcrank one will be the way to go.

Decisions, decisions.
xoxoxoBruce • Jan 23, 2006 9:00 pm
Who ya gonna call?

A pox on the first one that says Ghostbusters

Bruce is right. When the big battle comes, without the solar satellite uplink you probably won't have much service. Better to consider the personal air purifier to help clear away the smoke while firing your various weapons. I'm sure combustion by products of even smokeless powder cannot be good for you.

Also, when folded into thirds (my special number) the organic egyptian cotton towels make nice recoil absorbers for those prolonged shooting days.

Afterwards, you can soak your shoulder in a nice warm mineral soak, while listening to the soothing sounds of tropical rainforest, wind in the pines or waves gently lapping at the shore.

wolf • Jan 24, 2006 2:44 pm
(actually, I was thinking more on the order of whenever I actually make it to a disaster scene ... being able to charge a cell phone is actually a big deal under those circumstances, assuming the cell towers remain intact and in operation. Often, they bring in portables. They did for Shanksville and Quecreek Mine, anyway, since both incidents occured in fairly remote locations with poor cell coverage)

But I really do like the idea of an aromatherapy bath to celebrate the fall of civilization as we know it.

In the UK (where poster is) I don't think truth is a defense to a libel action. Nor does Godwin's Law particularly relate to the percieved tone involved.
maffick • Jan 24, 2006 4:31 pm
I prefered the name "Real Goods". I can't pronounce "Gaiam".... :eyebrow:
xoxoxoBruce • Jan 24, 2006 10:52 pm
Hi maffick, welcome to the Cellar. :D
Real Goods was one of the names that gathered under the Gaiam banner in order to survive. I got there through Seventh Generation.
I think it's pronounced like it's spelled; Ga - I - am.
footfootfoot • Jan 24, 2006 11:48 pm
guy am is how I hear it.

(from the people in my head)

And that would be the aroma of... VICTORY!
Urbane Guerrilla • Jan 25, 2006 1:23 am
Tough thread. Bebop said "nazi" and it's still alive and kicking (rather than waving an arm).
lumberjim • Jan 25, 2006 3:00 am
goosestepping right along

i didn't even get what maggie was all pissed off over. huh.

did you ever drop something behind a dresser, and it gets hung up halfway down....and then you try to sneak your fingers down on either side to grab it before it falls, but invariably, your arm jolts the dresser, or wedges it away from the wall, and it winds up dropping anyway? man i hate it when that happens. motherfucker. that's what i always say. motherfucker. just.....motherfucker.

Not pissed off, just an indirect way of observing that "right wing" != "Nazi". Nor does "small-l libertarian "== "conservative". But then, if those distinctions are too fine-grained...you might very well "not even get it". :-)
