Could you get a movie clip of an American soldier bitch slapping a large mammal from there?

Maybe a camel, donkey or an emu?

Ok, so I'm a wiseass. Yes, it would be very cool to get some photos of real life there and the mountainous scenery there.

Pics of progress there after the war would be nice to see if there is any visible progress. New buildings, people that are now authorized to smile, normal looking people not swinging large swords....that sort of thing.

I'm sure we'll chat before you leave.

Well, I'm always on the lookout for images of Afghan women and girls not being physically or emotionally threatened. Present in society. Going to school. Smiling would even be better.

How are we to know what you might find of interest there? Take pictures all you like and post some here when you get back.

i think what one must remember here is

1- There is No internet services in Afghanistan so you wont see posts coming while i am there
2-Its not a place where you drop in anytime. So sentences like "it would have been nice if u took photos of ..............." shouldnt come in ur mind after i am done with the Trip.

Maybe some people too stupid to defend themselves with people we'd like to have back home in the background.

Damn. Free electricity. Who'dathunkit? Lets move to Afganistan. Not.

I'd like a picture of you talking to yourself, Slang.

do you jump up and run around to the other side of the table, or just turn your head?

Where do you get all this traveling money?

A photo of you entering the old Khyber Pass (I'm sure this features in cockney rhyming slang somewhere...) would be good - and similarly one of you getting stuck into the Hindu toosh, sorry Kush. I'm sure there are even more memorable moments to capture on film (sorry these days that should be memory card - goes better with the word 'memorable' in any case), and will try to think of them before you go...

When did this turn into the "I'm taking a vacation someplace that no one who hasn't been drafted should ever go" thread?

Is there a limit to the amount of firepower an American tourist is allowed to take with them, or do they just issue you an AK 47 and some RPG's when you arrive?

I think at the very beginning when he said he was going to Afghanistan. :D

It's true that I do in fact talk or rant to myself often. I'm not sure what you mean by this though Jim. Dr Kashif is not me if that's what you mean.

As for the travel cash, I live way under my means and have a medocre salary. No debt, no frills. Working military projects allows me the time off to go travel around. One month they want you to work 168 hours a week, the next month your badge wont get you in the front door.

I'd seriously like to go to Afghanistan when all the live fire and cartoon riots end. More than likely that would actually be a trip back to Pindi then to Afghanistan.

Doesnt look like that's going to be friendly territory for a nice pork eater like me for a while though.

It was not at all like that for me Ep. Though I am disappointed that the locals there are always in the news burning US flags and rioting (making me look bad for having gone there to many of those at work ), my trip was very enjoyable.

There were very few instances of feeling that my safety was at risk and I found the general population there to be patient and accomodating.

It's a fascinating place Pakistan. Stay away from the women, booze, and the like...smile once in a while and dont expect their world to revolve around you and from my experience they'll be very good to you.

No AK required.

Is that assessment valid now with all the riots? Dont know.
