Guy gifts...

Snow Flake • Nov 21, 2005 6:09 pm
So my boyfriend of 8 months Birthday is in January, and I have no clue what to get him. He's so hard to shop for, the only thing I can think of is a video game, some type of RPG or something, but even then, I'm not sure what to get him, and what he would play and what he already has. Any ideas?
dar512 • Nov 21, 2005 6:28 pm
Guys are actually really easy to buy for. He's probably into some kind of hardware - cars, computers, carpentry, golf, etc. You just have to know what he's interested in and what he hasn't already got.

As for computer games, look on his shelf to see what he'd already got, then list them here for clues from our local "experts" or take the list to a good software store. If you're certain he likes RPG games try metacritic to find out what's good.
Snow Flake • Nov 21, 2005 8:12 pm
He's really into cars, but other then that... he's not really the tipical guy, ya know?
He don't really know anything about tools or building stuff. But he loves RPG's, I don't get what teh big deal is, but what ever.
dar512 • Nov 21, 2005 9:00 pm
Does he have a fine car? If so, you can buy him some accessory for it. Go into the service department of a local dealer for that car. There will be some stuff there. You can also find stuff online.

If he doesn't have a fine car, but you know what he'd really like to have, you can get something that has to do with that. For instance you could get him the BMW leather jacket or the mercedes baseball cap.

Going in a totally different direction, you could make him a special dinner. Or pick something else you like to do together.

The very best gift shows that you really like the person and the you know them well enough to choose something they would like.

My wife's favorite gifts are the ones I give all year long. I do some obnoxious chore that she hates. It keeps that looooove powerful
Snow Flake • Nov 21, 2005 9:27 pm
He has 2 cars, a 2001 Prelude, (that's his baby), and an MR2 that he's working on fixing up. Now I love doing little cute thing's, like sending him random e-mail or e-cards, and I go out and buy him cards and write him little love letters, but he's really not into the cute kind of stuff, and thats why I find it hard to shop for him. When it comes to him, I'm just so clueless. As for diner, I know thats something he would like... but I'm afraid I would kill him. Everytime I cook, I almost burn down the house.
Beestie • Nov 21, 2005 10:02 pm
Can't go wrong with a knife.
seakdivers • Nov 22, 2005 12:34 am
Or a lighter.

My husband doesn't smoke, but he can't get enough of the stupid novelty lighters.

he loves knives too....... I've seen him use them to open packages & whatnot now & then...
He actually bought me a gutting/skinning knife as a gift way back when, and he basically told me that he really didn't want to see me use it, but that he hoped I liked it.
ashke • Nov 22, 2005 1:33 am
He bought it because he thought it was cool? I think I'm guilty of that too ^^;;; But not with knives...
wolf • Nov 22, 2005 1:47 am
I'd totally groove on a knife as a gift.

Just so long as it was a decent knife.

Video games, tools and sporting equipment are all good ideas ...

Does he have a favorite sports team, and can you score him tickets for a game?

Important question ... what is your price range?
Snow Flake • Nov 22, 2005 7:35 pm
No, he's not into sposts.
And a for price, no more then $100.00.
I'm going to New York next week, I'm hoping they will have some more impressive stuff then gay 'ol Maryland.
Griff • Nov 22, 2005 9:00 pm
I'm always happy to see fine tools, scotch, or bike gear. How about a nice goat?
wolf • Nov 23, 2005 2:21 pm
New York has the same shit they have in Maryland, but it will cost up to twice as much.

Welcome to the 21st Century.
Elspode • Nov 23, 2005 2:52 pm
Buy a really nice lingerie outfit, and wear it for him. The rest of the gift will take care of itself.

Failing that, there are some very nice, very compact modern LED flashlights on the market today that most any man would love to have. Pocket watches can be inexpensive yet very nice, and they are certainly a keepsake item. Also good are leather driving gloves or gift certificates for multiple car washes or a single detail cleanup of his Prelude. Players of RPGs also are often keen on figurines representing characters from their series (Everquest, World of Warcraft and other figures can be found online).
warch • Nov 23, 2005 3:21 pm
Booze. always a hit.
Cyclefrance • Nov 24, 2005 10:38 am
If he likes cars get him one of those track days where you have the opportunity to knock s**t out of some muscle cars. My son bought me one a couple of year's back - magic!
SteveDallas • Nov 24, 2005 11:27 am
Does he have any Leatherman devices? This goes along with the knife idea... Mrs. Dallas got me a Leatherman Squirt and it's been unspeakably useful at home and work. I have the model that opens up into a pair of scissors, but they have other models with pliers or wire strippers.
footfootfoot • Dec 7, 2005 7:39 am
Els was on the right track. If he's into cars then get him one of those car calendars with the hot, lingerie encrusted babes sprawling all over the car. except have yourself photographed all over his cars. You'd have to do it on the sly to surprise him and prolly get one of your gfs to take the pics so he doesn't get all mental and jealous.

He will love it.
wolf • Dec 7, 2005 10:35 am
Until you break up in mid-February.

Get a commercial car calendar. You don't need naked or near naked photographs of yourself hitting the internet.

Hey, wait a minute. Didn't we establish you were jailbait or something? No suggestive pics of yourself at all.
Bullitt • Dec 7, 2005 10:40 am
F^3.. you are a genius
Bullitt • Dec 7, 2005 12:08 pm
That is if she hadn't been born in '88.. 5-10 years in the slammer isn't it?
Some nice watch from Fossil or the likes would be the way to go i think.
melidasaur • Dec 7, 2005 12:52 pm
DVDs are always a good choice. There are tons of cool DVDs out there - if he has a favorite TV show, get him a box set of episodes. If he hasa favorite cartoon show from the past, see if that is on DVD. DVDs are generally very appreciated.

I still don't get it, do you mean snowflake is da man, or just a dick on pot?
Griff • Dec 8, 2005 6:50 am
I had this wacky alcohol induced idea that snowflake was the man, which V and I started kicking around just before he flew the coop.

Thanks for the vote of confidance? I'm sure me and him will still be together in February.

And as for gifts, His fav. amina is something called Gun-Slinger girls? He's been wanting to get that DVD so I think I'm just gonna get that for him. but thank you to all of you that helped.
wolf • Dec 8, 2005 11:18 pm
Get yourself a copy of Eats, Shoots, and Leaves. You'll thank me later.

Yeah, that is why alcohol is so great! Wasn't it Ben Franklin who said: "Beer is proof that god loves us and wants us to be happy"?

You're assuming he has a DVD player... and that he watches TV. :right:

Uh, I altered it.;)
classicman • Nov 10, 2009 2:02 pm
ya know ... I was thinkin that was too good for a newb to do himself. I also realized after I posted my comment that he was replying to a thread that hadn't been touched in 4 years. . . Oh well.
xoxoxoBruce • Nov 10, 2009 2:10 pm
Well, checking him out, he didn't appear to be a dedicated spammer, at least. And didn't have twentyteen links in his post/sig, just one. So I removed it and we'll see what happens.
Cloud • Nov 10, 2009 2:38 pm
I just joined another (specialty) forum and got blasted for reviving an old thread (an avatar thread to test my avatar). But it wasn't any 4 year old thread!
xoxoxoBruce • Nov 10, 2009 2:49 pm
That's what you get for straying from the 'kind & gentle' Cellar. But to try out your avatar, you must.
regular.joe • Nov 10, 2009 2:54 pm
Holy wierd left turn on a 4 year old thread Batman!
TheMercenary • Nov 10, 2009 3:58 pm
Ok, for the sake of the revival of this thread and with gift giving season around the corner I will recommend something I have already posted as the ultimate guy gift for anyone who cooks out as much as I do. Thread drift, pffffftt...

monster • Nov 10, 2009 4:59 pm

ROFL @ Wolf

I'm getting my DH an XM radio for Christmas. Actually already got it, it's in a box right here, came from Amazon today. It was about $100, but then of course we have to pay for the subscription. Worth it for us though because we have really crappy radio stations, they don't play anything interesting at all.

I want one too. Maybe I'll "borrow" it like I "borrowed" the GPSR I got him last year. ;)

Just an idea, tho.

ETA: Dang, must check YEARS on these posts. Still a relevant thread though, seein' as how it's already November.
Shawnee123 • Nov 10, 2009 6:46 pm
Sigh. Good ole Snowflake and RPG boy. I wonder what ever happened to them? Ya know, I always thought those two crazy kids just might make it.
richlevy • Nov 11, 2009 9:07 pm
Uh-oh, that reminds me. I was keeping this years Cellar Secret Santa gift near my computer, but there's so much crap there that I don't see it.
richlevy • Nov 28, 2009 11:57 am

I prefer Kill It n' Grill It. (Got the ex an autographed copy.)
TheMercenary • Dec 4, 2009 3:49 pm
Ted rocks. His hunting shows were good when they were on air. Then he did some stupid competition show on his ranch, it bombed. But he is a good guy IMHO.
Madman • Dec 11, 2009 2:43 pm
Power tools. Yes... definitely power tools.

Even if they don't use them.

It's the sound of these things in use that get that male testosterone going in overdrive.

I especially love the sound of a grinder being used... grrrrr..... :shocking:
monster • Dec 11, 2009 10:46 pm
Man Gift? Buy 'em flowers (get bright colors -red, purple, yellow -nothing fluffy). "She thinks I'm manly enough to accept flowers as a gift, WOOF ...better prove it!" You'll get great sex and not have to deal with them playing with their new toy rather than paying attention to you. Plus they don't last forever unlike a "real men wear pink" t-shirt ;)
Griff • Dec 12, 2009 8:37 am
Or if he's actually a guy he could think, "Flowers, wtf? Its bad enough when I spend good money on dead plants for someone who is acculturated to it." Seriously, stick to the steak and bj.
monster • Dec 12, 2009 10:43 pm
:D
xoxoxoBruce • Dec 12, 2009 10:47 pm
Upside, eventually you can shitcan the flowers without having to explain. Can't do that with the mauve earmuffs.

Permanent monthly gift card to big hardware store or home depot. Guys who won't even grocery shop can spend hours in a hardware store. All those power tools and accessories, gizmos, and stuff we don't even know what it is. Aaarrrrh!
