10/28/2005: Cat bib

New image haunt Strange New Products offers up this one: the "cat bib". You would think it is not a real product, that it's something you put on your cat just to tick him or her off. No.

Image

Googling finds that it is indeed a real product, the cat bib, and there is a website with hundreds of pictures of cats just as pissed off as this one. And testimonials saying the cat loves it.

Image

OK, I kid, but the point, it turns out, is not to piss off the cats, but to prevent the cats from catching birds. The bib "works by coming between your cat and the bird your cat is stalking. When the cat strikes out for the bird, the CatBib is there instead. It gently interferes with your cat's keen hunting skills."

Gently interferes with its dignity, too, but at the same time it's kinda funny. Happy Friday.

Yes i agree - all dignity has been lost here :)

If the birds don't die laughing.
Good one, UT.

Kinda like a milk jug on dogs collar to stop digging! maybe?
LabRat • Oct 28, 2005 12:20 pm
I have never owned a cat, but isn't that why some have bells on their collars, to warn the things that they may be stalking? Seems a little less obnoxious. Poor cats.

some clever cat will figure out how to:

1 - whack the hell out of the bird by throwing himself forward by the chest and
2 - climb up beside your most expensive crystal and whack the hell out of that, too.

mark my words..our lives are in danger.

I think we're looking at pictures of incorrect installations. These are clearly capes. Stoopid humans. See here.

Recycling!

looks like a good use for all those dirty old mouse pads now that most people are going to optical mice.

there's gotta be some cat and mouse joke in there somewhere.

Hey cool. When I was a kid my bedroom was decorated in B Kliban theme; white carpet and red walls with black framed Kliban prints all over them. I had forgotten about that....

Finally... a product that turns the tables on the feline species. They are relentless and heartless hunters. Most cats that hunt and kill have no intentions of ingestion. They just instinctively kill.
Interfere with a cat's dignity? Never happen..... just ask the cat. He'll tell you it doesn't bother him in the least. Prolly tell you he put it on himself. Then he'll ask you if you want to try it on. Cat wins again.
I had a bumper sticker on my old '79 Ford truck:
I LOVE CATS......THEY TASTE LIKE CHICKEN. I love all animals. There are SOME that I love a little less than others.

mmm, just me, or do all these look obviously photoshopped (on the website too)? or am i stating the obvious?
bluecuracao • Oct 28, 2005 11:19 pm

I waatched a show on the Learning Channel explaining how cats are born hunters and killers. Even while kittens play, they're supposedly really honing their hunting skills. It's not evil, it's instinct. And you know, nature must have its balances..cats kill things, things kill cats...and so on and so on.....

The caption for this one says the cat "doesn't seem to be bothered by it" but clearly Nicholas is plotting how to snuff out the family while they sleep.

If it looks P-shopped it's because they turned up the color saturation and lowered the jpeg quality.

and thereby removing its stealth ability.

I smell a new World of Warcraft debuff

"Curse of the Catbib: Renders user unable to stealth"

Here I thought it was a cat testing out a beard disguise.

There I go again being stupid.

dots/Faerie Fire already have that effect, but funny nonetheless.

The problem with bells is that young, naive animals don't know that the sound of the bell signals danger. That bib thing is obnoxious and the cats look wretchedly unhappy, but it probably does the trick.

By the way, Leonardo da Vinci, who used to purchase doomed fowl at the marketplace and set them free, opined that the bells placed around farm animals' necks must drive them mad. I wonder too about the incessant clinking of metal license, rabies and ID tags on collars.

*looks over shoulder for Garnet* Obviously those that think these are PS'd have never dressed up their pets in stupid costumes and taken pictures for the hell of it.
