New Post Indicator
Is that little yellow 'c' next to each thread supposed to denote whether or not there has been a new post in that thread? 'Cause if so, I have found it to be a very innacurate indicator. Perhaps it's because I dual-boot and therefore use different browsers?
Yes, it is. And your cookies should take care of it for you. I don't dual boot, but I browse the Cellar using <b>four</b> different computers, and I find it to be *relatively* accurate.
I don't really have a problem with the indicators...the only problem I have is if I'm taking a long time to do a post, then I might miss a few posts. I usually wind up getting the e-mails for those posts, and catch 'em.
Yes, most of the time it works, but sometimes I go into a forum where it says there are no new posts and see whole threads that i've missed. And sometimes i won't get a yellow indicator on a thread when there has been a post that I have not read. Only sometimes, though. I shall have to pay more attention and relate a more detailed account. :]
Heh. Well, I happen to be blessed with a pretty photographic memory, I tend to remember, by looking at it, whether anyone has posted or not. Also, in the upper right hand corner, I think there's a thing that says when you last visited - look and see if any posts have been made after that (by checking out the "Last post by ... at XX:XX XM" stuff) and go from there.
Actually, juju, you have "Browse Forums with Cookies" option turned OFF. That should be ON. Hit the button labeled "user cp" up at the upper right.
I changed the language around the user options since most of you all have registered, and made it much clearer. A lot of people just turn cookies off whenever possible. Cookies should be ON here wherever possible, for the best browsing experience.

Tony - why is HTML posting OFF in my forum? That's killing me, man :) I think it's 2 posts I've had to go back and edit 'cause i'm so used to doing a <b>bold</b> via HTML, and the < is easier to hit than the [. :)
(and doing it via Alt-B sucks 'cause of Mozilla's text input problems, and Alt-B doesn't work on a Macintosh :P )
becasue if you look at some vbullient forums people have fucking huge pics as thier sigs etcetc, generally allows peopel to do shitty stuff like put an Iframe in a post, no better way to scare the shit out of people.

It might be a nice feature if one could click "off" specific yellow indicators, for those threads you don't want to read at that time ... until a subsequent post in that thread, when the yellow would come on again. Just a thought.
You actually can do this - go into the forum, and then at the bottom, on the left, click "Mark thread read" - voila.
HTML is off because I forgot to change the option. I'll change it now. My thnking on the whole HTML abuse problem was that I'd worry about it if it happened. So far so good: because we have a better set of users than yer average forum site.
