Stuff to do while I'm supposed to be working.

Mr.Anon.E.Mouse • Aug 10, 2005 2:24 pm
So I sit at a computer all day, performing my job well enough to get accolades from those that matter, and I still have loads of time on my hands. I'm slowly coming up to speed here at The Cellar, and I've run out of porn and stupid movies to look at. Got any suggestions on what else I could do to while away the hours?
wolf • Aug 10, 2005 2:25 pm
I'm a big fan of minesweeper.

(we have a no software install rule at work, so my options are limited.)

Ok, this is sad... I don't know how to play Minesweeper.
lookout123 • Aug 10, 2005 2:31 pm
it is annoyingly addictive for a time.

the cellar is great, and it should speed up a little as we head into fall. to keep you busy i would suggest that you pick a topic, any topic really. research this topic until you reach a well thought out opinion and then post about said topic. shortly tw will come along to tell you why you are wrong and how exactly this is the fault of GWB and MBA's. it is really pretty fun once you get the hang of it. ;)

I'm secretly plotting a topic that'll invoke the wrath of marichiko!
lookout123 • Aug 10, 2005 2:46 pm
well, a year ago you could have used something along the lines of welfare, but apparently that doesn't work today.

1.) Click on a random square. A number will appear.
2.) This number indicates how many "mines" that square is touching. Use logic to determine which squares the mines are under.
3.) Mark suspected mines with a right-click over the squares.
4.) Accidentally click on a mine and BOOM! start over.
5.) Repeat for hours and hours and hours. At some point, for additional difficulty, stop marking the mines and just force yourself to remember where they are.

I like to play Text Twister or Bookworm...from Yahoo, I think? Addictive, fun, builds your vocab and word skills--FUN! I'm starting school in the Fall--how'd you like to make some extra money writing papers for me? :D

All I can do is read the news and post in here
And by accolades do you mean the program thingy Accolade by Sopheon MR. Anon? That's pretty much what I work with all day.. a pain in the butt to learn how to use

Well, I'm honored! Its really not hard to invoke my wrath in case you haven't already noticed. I'll argue most anything - especially with a Californian!

I'd still argue that one, although I think we'd all be beating a dead horse. Wouldn't want those folks from PETA to show up with all their lynching pictures, now would we? :p

Where you headin off to?
Trilby • Aug 11, 2005 9:32 am
I'm going to Wright State University--just a local State school, nothing grand, but it is an adventure for me. I can't wait!!
Bullitt • Aug 11, 2005 9:36 am
Nice, I really liked their campus when I toured it, alot of commuter kids though. The underground tunnel system is pretty dang cool. I'm actually switching schools this fall, headin off to Malone College.. bye bye OU
Trilby • Aug 11, 2005 9:49 am
I went to OU for a (brief) while. Freaky place, no? The cemeteries making a pentacle and all that stuff...weird vibe.

What's your major? And why the switch?
Bullitt • Aug 11, 2005 9:52 am
Secondary education with history emphasis. I didn't um.. do so well at OU, and I think the main reason was the huge classes (80+ people lecture style). Malone has about 1500 students.. total. So the student teacher ratio is much more to my benefit.. something like 14-1

I've beaten Minesweeper, twice, on the Expert level. Now I'm working on four suit spider solitare.
Happy Monkey • Aug 17, 2005 12:35 am
My current minesweeper scores at home:

24
83
270
wolf • Aug 17, 2005 1:39 am
My home minesweeper scores are not the good ones ... 13, 61, haven't finished expert ... I have a wealth of other games that keep me preoccupied.

At work, however, I do have an 8 second beginner, 48 second intermediate, and 210 expert. IIRC, I had a 198 expert before some dumbass virused one of the work machines and they had to reinstall windows.
Clodfobble • Aug 17, 2005 12:10 pm
I had a 117 expert once upon a time, but that was on a previous system, and my skillz have dulled significantly since those days.
glatt • Aug 17, 2005 12:25 pm
You guys have good expert scores. I've completed the expert level numerous times but the clock hit 999 and stopped counting. I'm a sprinter, getting good high scores in the beginner level. But I have to slow down and walk the marathon.

My minesweeper high scores are:
Beginner: 11
Intermediate: 148
Expert: 801

From our friends in the UK: the serf assessment is always good for killing a little time! ;)

As the poor mentally troubled denizens of the greater Philly area wander the streets, wondering how the system has failed them, Wolfie finishes cleaning her glock for the third time and contemplates strategy for her tenth minesweeper game of the day.

If you dont have anything better to do while you are at the office, try to look for some flash games online, they are fun :D

I finally purchased the full version of Zuma from Popcap Games. Level 8 is impossible.

if you're really desperate try this

I've forsaken Zuma for the frustration that is Luxor.

I have a subscription to shockwave games, which is all the fault of that darned Betrapped.
Cyclefrance • Aug 22, 2005 12:06 pm
Put your 'phones on and enjoy the unique song composing talents of John Bobson ( unfortunately John is taking a break from composing but with nearly a hundred songs to listen to that should not be an immediate problem). Some personal favourites: 'Syrup on my finger'. 'Cleaning the Kitchen floor', Olly and the fish' and 'Ideas for Denis'.
mrnoodle • Aug 22, 2005 1:23 pm
My friend's wife beat Zuma. It's got 12 levels, I believe. She's not even a gamer per se, she just has good hand/eye coordination.
Happy Monkey • Aug 22, 2005 1:27 pm
Never! It's impossible, I say!
wolf • Aug 22, 2005 1:30 pm
I finished that one with the fish, that's like Jewel Quest ... oh, and Jewel Quest.

Big Kahuna Reef ... that's it.

I've gotten sidetracked on Maui Waui or whatever it's called. I like it because it's essentially the same game, with a slightly different play strategy (slide five instead of swap). And I like building the resort.
