7/11/2005: Christ on a chip

Ever heard the expression "Christ on a cracker!" ? Well I have, and that's why I saved this one off... a rather ordinary sighting, as they go, of Christian icons in various places.

Rosalie Lawson was about to bite into the sour cream and onion potato chip as she watched TV when she suddenly spotted the image.

"I said to myself: "Oh my goodness"," she said. "I showed it to my husband Jerry and he was pretty amazed too."

Deeply religious Mrs Lawson, 55, whose father-in-law the Very Rev. LeRoy Lawson was the first dean of St Petersburg Cathedral in their home town, is now pondering what to do with it.

"It's sitting in a jar in the kitchen while we decide," she said. "We may sell it - I'm not really sure."
Leah • Jul 11, 2005 9:14 pm
Call me blind, but I can't see the resemblance. It just looks like a rotten chip to me. :3_eyes: :yum:
FloridaDragon • Jul 11, 2005 9:22 pm
I hate to say it but it looks like Ms Piggy in a wig....guess you can see whatever you choose to in these things....
capnhowdy • Jul 11, 2005 9:22 pm
Looks like an airedale to me.
I'm sure it's the onion/ sour cream thingie, but ...(wanna talk about chemistry?)
"It's sitting in a jar in the kitchen while we decide," she said. "We may sell it - I'm not really sure."
Not sure, my ass. Why didn't she eat the damn thing?
I'm confident Jerry will agree...
" Let's sell this fokka before it gets too stale."
AN IMAGE I'M SURE WE'LL SEE ONE DAY SOON :
CHRIST ON TOILET PAPER...heee heee...think I had that.. ahem well..just joking.
At least nobody pissed on it.
Good image. I enjoyed it.
capnhowdy • Jul 11, 2005 9:27 pm
Ya know come to think of it, it looks like the Zig-Zag man... :joint:
lumberjim • Jul 11, 2005 9:33 pm
looks like satan to me. satan on a chip. and its sitting right there in those peoples home. theyre gonna burn in hell for it, it tells ya.
Leah • Jul 11, 2005 9:33 pm
look what I found. :smack:
Is it Jesus? ... An Italian man is convinced the image of Christ appears on this oyster shell. The 38 year-old owner decided to put the shell up for sale after a woman in Florida auctioned off a grilled cheese sandwich allegedly bearing an image of the Virgin Mary to an online casino last November for $US28,000 ($37,000) / Reuters / News Limited picture
Leah • Jul 11, 2005 9:37 pm
You can only see the oyster if you reply to this comment. Don't know why. What did I do wrong???
capnhowdy • Jul 11, 2005 9:40 pm
Be careful.... "They" say oysters make you wanna.... :doit:
sandra77 • Jul 11, 2005 9:41 pm
I can't see either image. What are these people smoking? The first one looks like a skull with long black hair. Kind of like a logo to a very heavy metal group.

Thanks for doing this. I enjoy every new image.
Leah • Jul 11, 2005 9:42 pm
Oh Christ, maybe I should get some then. :worried:
SteveDallas • Jul 11, 2005 10:32 pm
It looks like a figure from Kingdom of Loathing to me!
Trilby • Jul 11, 2005 11:04 pm
Well, it's obviously Christ and for those of you can't see it--have fun in hell!
;)
Elspode • Jul 11, 2005 11:27 pm
I think the chip looks like Jerry Garcia...
Elspode • Jul 11, 2005 11:40 pm
It seems that spurious deity/icon sightings can incite violence.

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. - City officials have turned off a streetlight that drew more than 250 people to see a shadow that some say resembles the image of Jesus Christ.

East Chicago Police Chief Angelo Machuca called an emergency meeting Sunday to recommend the light be turned off in the interest of public safety after nearby residents complained about blocked cars and visitors congregating until 5 a.m.

Several arrests were made Friday night after a large fight broke out in the area.

"The city respects everyone's religious beliefs, but it's getting to the point now where it's almost too dangerous" to leave the light on, said Damian Rico, the city's public relations director.

People have flocked to the site since Wednesday, when a woman first claimed to see the image on the side of a tree. The image is only visible at night when the streetlight near the tree is illuminated.

Machuca said his department doesn't have the manpower to maintain regular patrols and control the crowd.

"The light will remain off until we can get some kind of solution," he said.

Well Jesus was on the chip until that crazy lady licked him away with the dip. :headshake
magilla • Jul 12, 2005 6:14 am
I SEE IT! I SEE IT! It's a message from God...It's spelling it out...It's telling me...E.....B....A....Y!!!!

Sheesh. I tell you, religious mania is reaching epidemic proportions in the USA. It's a little scary, really. And I realize that contradicts my earlier cynical commercial message.

I think I would sell it if I managed to recognize the image in the frenzy of stuffing my face with chip n dip. Why not? If someone wants to buy into the hype, why not let them? They already do, anyway.
Trilby • Jul 12, 2005 2:18 pm
What is better than sour cream dip and ridged potato chips? And Tomato chips? Nothing. :yum:
Except celery stix and bleu cheese...and stewed tomatoes with crutons and an oinion blossom with thousand island...Ohhhh!

must...make...grilled...cheese...

Maybe a midwest thing? We had it growing up.
Trilby • Jul 13, 2005 10:47 am
Definitely a midwest thing. The stewed tom's have to be very, very hot. It's really good with a juicy filet mignon and hash browns. Mmmmmmmmmmm! I'm worried about myself. I've never, ever been this into food as I am now. It's disturbing. Food was always the enemy before and I ate it only to see how few calories I could consume. My eye always went to the low-fat salad and steamed, no butter, veggie plate. Now I dream of sour cream, cheese, mayonnaise and buttery dishes. Must get self to Jenny Craig before all is lost.

The burnt ones are yummier. I prize them.

You can taste now, and you have this thing that you'd been missing called an appetite ...

Have you started putting 4-5 teaspoons of sugar on your already sugar-coated cereal yet?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060818/ap_on_fe_st/chocolate_virgin_mary_2

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. - As a chocolatier to the rich and famous, Martucci Angiano has posed with many celebrities — but on Thursday she held in her hand a figure that dazzles her more than any Hollywood star.

Workers at Angiano's gourmet chocolate company, Bodega Chocolates, discovered under a vat a 2-inch-tall column of chocolate drippings that they believe bears a striking resemblance to the Virgin Mary.

Since the discovery Monday, Angiano's employees have spent much of their time hovering over the tiny figure, praying and placing rose petals and candles around it.

"I was raised to believe in the Virgin Mary, but this still gives me the chills," Angiano said as she balanced the dark brown figure in her hand. "Everyone should see this."

Kitchen worker Cruz Jacinto was the first to spot the lump of melted chocolate when she began her shift Monday cleaning up drippings that had accumulated under a large vat of dark chocolate.

Chocolate drippings usually harden in thin, flat strips on wax paper, but Jacinto said she froze when she noticed the unusual shape of this cast-off: It looked just like the Virgin Mary on the prayer card she always carries in her right pocket.

"When I come in, the first thing I do is look at the clock, but this time I didn't look at the clock. My eyes went directly to the chocolate," said Jacinto, dressed in a hair net and apron as she paused from her work. "I thought, 'Am I the only one who can see this? I picked it up and I felt emotion just come over me. For me, it was a sign."

The chocolate, on display for most of the week in the front of the company gift shop, now rests in a plastic case in a back room and is brought out only for curious visitors.

The stack of hardened confection has a wide base and tapers gently toward a rounded top, giving the appearance of a female figure with her head tilted slightly to the right. The dark brown melting chocolate hardened into subtle layers that resemble the folds of a gown and a flowing veil.

A tiny white circle, about the size of a pencil eraser, sits in the upper center of the creation, just above a slight ridge that runs across it. Cruz says the white speck is the head of the Baby Jesus as he is held in Mary's folded arms.

For Jacinto, the discovery came just in time. Raising a son on her own, she has struggled with marital problems for months and says she was about to lose her faith.

"I have big problems right now, personally, and lately I've been saying that God doesn't exist," she said, pulling the dog-eared prayer card out of her pocket. "This has given me renewed faith."

Angiano, who co-owns the 10-year-old company with her sister, has rubbed shoulders with plenty of stars in her job.

The gourmet boutique runs booths at all the big awards shows, including the Emmys, the Golden Globes, the Oscars, the Country Music Awards and the Latin Grammys. Pictures of Angiano with top celebrities — and her chocolates — line the office walls.

But this week's brush with the image of a 2,000-year-old idol has left even Angiano star-struck.

"That's our Oscar right there," she said.

It looks even more like a chocolate stalagmite.

I can understand not eating a burnt potato chip, but that's chocolate! That it reminds this gal of some Dark Ages artist's idea of what Mary may have looked like does not make it a holy relic.
