2005 cellar tshirts
do we dare?
i'm wearing my '04 shirt right now. it's cool. for you newbs,
here's that shirt thread. It was a minor debacle, but
most people that ordered their shirts got what they ordered, and they actually came out very nice looking. It was fun
designing the logos, and such, but this time I would recommend that we use a different printer, and make them all one or two colors. and use paypal for ordering. I'll help with design as much as i can, but i can't do what i did last year with the ordering. i just don't have that much time anymore.
anyone interested?
I am!!! :)
PS--guess who was online briefly today? GARNET!!!!! :)
Cool !!
For color of shirts how about black , olive green , and navy blue,
and for the art ,,,,,,, I still like the comic that started the whole shirt idea rolling , see it in the first design post
Are you NUTS LJ??????????
Ok. I'm in.
Also I humbly suggest a thread of famous people our cellar t-shirts have met ... :coffee:
Sounds good. I like zippyt's colors.
I'm in. Limiting the number of colors, and keeping it to one style is a way good idea.
Ok, now that I've rejoined the credit enabled, I'm in. That should simplify things a bit.
hee hee ...asshat!
go
here ( click the 'lab' tab at the top)to play with some pretty cool design software
Just to pitch in my $0.02 for the new iteration of shirts...
After all, everything revolves around the Cellar.
One color one style, and a new guy, and I will take care of all this stuff this time. I know I can do it!
Last time we had a go at the T-Shirt thing, I started sketching an idea, but abandoned it due to lack of time (my employer was inflicting me with horrifying hours). Obviously it's far from complete, but this sketch shows the gist of it:
I now have more free time than I did then, so if I can be of any use in the design, I am happy to volunteer some effort.
I still never got my shirts (save one that looked like it would fit a barbie) from last time.
Do they come with a holster pocket? :)
I'm in.
Of course since we did shirts last time we could just do a hat this time. It would eliminate the sizing issue.
Not a goober/trucker hat though ... the good brushed cotton, no mesh vents.
Good idea there Rich!
One color one style
Come on UT , not every body LIKES Black tshirts . Give us some choice of color .
Oh and I'm in for a ball cap as well , and i agree with Wolf , no "Trucker Hats "
i like olive green for a colour. With white writing that would look really funky. i think a shirt that DOESNT advertise the cellar would be neat too tho - like the moneys etc still but a bit less branding for cellar.org - kind of like a masons ring kind of concept (we can work on the hanshake later)
i think i will wait till i see the end design till i say that i am in - I love my shirt from last time but i still have only worn it 1 or 2 times.
Count me in too. And I just so happen to know a printer who is RELIABLE mostly because I know where he lives and we're old Navy buddies. All I need to know is how many and in what sizes. I can guarantee his work because I've ordered custom one-off T-shirts and other clothing from him and wear it whenever it comes up in the pile of clean clothes.
He also has a website but it's kind of embarassing because he's NOT good at designing his own website.
This time I'm getting more than one T-shirt. And what the hell is wrong with trucker hats, hmmm?
Brian
Would he consider an exchange of web work for shirts?
I'm in. I've already noticed wear on my old ones...
I know I'm new, but can I get one too?
UT, check out what he's done already
here and see what he's done for himself. :mg:
I'm encouraging him to join and talk for himself. We'll see if he does.
Brian
I'll take another stab at it, LJ/UT/Whoever coordinates. I *like* black, BTW.
I also like black.
Black is slimming. (okay, saying this in regard to any size over a woman's 14 is a lie. Plaids, however, always make you look fat.)
And it's on the witch dresscode.
And it's on the witch dresscode.
Wouldn't that include anything with toads as well?
I like navy, dark green, and maroon.
my preference is navy, black, olive, maroon, white. in that order. :2cents:
purple, black, burgundy/wine, navy, hunter green
Nobody likes muave, puce, salmon, or periwinkle? Damnit!
You were SO close to "lavender, puce and mauve"! Anyone catch that reference?
You were SO close to "lavender, puce and mauve"! Anyone catch that reference?
A brief Googling reveals the reference, but any similarity to actual people or events was purely coincidental.
I must admit I had to Google to figure out exactly which colors you were off by.
I still say we should go for
baseball caps. It's $11.50 if you buy 20 or more. Sell them for $15. :yelgreedy
That leather strap and metal buckle is the quality item. I have a cap like that and it's my favorite. I want a Cellar one.
If I was in BKK I would offer to outsource the T shirts. But alas......and shipping and duty. WTO, free trade, hmmm.
Color/colour. Light grey with black outlined yellow logo. Sounds weird but it works.
Two styles:
One T for surfing, washing the car, moving the lawn.
One golf style shirt with the logo discretely on the sleeve for wearing to work on a Friday, going to funerals, that sort of thing.
Cellar underwear? Slogan: It's better in the Cellar.

Me too. It looks like that site has a $50 set up for logos. That adds $2.50 per hat for 20.
I'd still like one. Maybe a little more shopping around is in order.
my head is too big for baseball hats. really. and i do mean literally, not metaphorically, ya prick.
i'd recommend mouse pads, but that doesn't advertise very well. travel coffee mugs?
you'd better do a whole line, and stock them year round, tony. i think it would be best.

BwaaaHAHAHAHAH !!!!
Sorry dude , but i have NEVER headr that one befor , what size hat do you wear a size 25DD????
how about this for a saying on the hat , streight form UT's post on Alcohism,
"In some ways if you haven't made a glorious mess of life you aren't really living."
i just talked to a friend of mine last night who has a total line of clothing, hats, etc. he charges a one time fee of $75 for a scan of the image then the rest is "shirt" quality. i had asked him about this for the flight school but i saw lj's thread and thought i'd throw this out here. the cheapest shirt at our cost is $15 (+ the initial 75) any thoughts? and zip, i've metcha and know ya, you'd look good in a trucker hat! bwahahahahaha!
p.s. it's embroidered..........
Oooh ... Embroidered is gooder. Especially for hats.
Much as I love Camo, I would understand if others didn't want to get on that particular bandwagon.
I'd be very cool with Navy or Black.
As far as 1001 other Cellar Items and doodads ... cafepress might be a way of filling those kinds of cellar needs.
I have some of their ceramic mugs and travel mugs ... they have been repeatedly washed in the dishwasher with no fading of logo.
Since everybody wants so many different items, why doesn't UT just set up a cafepress shop? You can scan multiple images for the "store," and those images can be available on everything from shirts to hats to underwear to lunchboxes to coffeemugs to freakin' totebags. And not just one standard white shirt, they have over 25 types of shirts.
They take care of all the printing and shipping, and simply have a "base price" for all their items. YOU decide on the "retail price," because they figure you know your audience. You keep anything above the base price.
And everyone gets exactly what they want, and there's no minimum order, and the store can stay open permanently (it's free) so that newcomers don't have to get in right now or be forced to wait until someone brings it up again.
Edit: Uh, yeah, I saw wolf already mentioned it, and I uh, just wanted to elaborate. Yeah... :o
I like camo, dark grey or black. I have found myself cutting sleeves off my t-shirts lately. Does that make me more of a redneck? Anyway, I was hoping we would do shirts instead of hats...I, personally, have no reason to wear a hat, and don't really like them, but that is just one person's opinion.
I don't wear hats either.
BwaaaHAHAHAHAH !!!!
Sorry dude , but i have NEVER headr that one befor , what size hat do you wear
Ever seen the big yellow hats on top of the Napa trucks? Well... yeah.
Ooooow Jinx, cold. Funny though. :lol2:

that's pretty cool. tell us more about this......cafe press
They have all this stuff, see ... in light colors. That's key to their simple, easy to use process.
You select the stuff you want ... tees, ringer tees, hats, tote bags, messenger bags, clocks, etc. etc. etc.
You upload your images (higher quality is better!!) and specify which of the cool items you want your logo on.
You can have more than one logo up at a a time.
You can have stuff that's not so much logo-ish as just sayings and stuff ... so, for example, we could have bumper stickers or coffee mugs with different tag lines, or even one in Cyrillic Characters that says "I spit on your soul."
And it doesn't cost us one goddamned cent.
It's on demand printing, so there's no inventory.
I belong to several organizations that use cafe press for their stuff ... and it looks better than what's on the website.
Officers of Avalon
I have the mugs, travel mug, and journal on this page and am impressed by the quality.
There are a ton of things in the
political category that I would like to have ... and what's very cool about it is that they have stuff that Radar, Richlevey, and I would each be happy buying.
maybe, I'll wait and see what the final one looks like. My cellar shirt is now part of the collection known as the 'he's on a work binge again, keep your distance or have a cattleprod ready'.
I have found myself cutting sleeves off my t-shirts lately. Does that make me more of a redneck?
Sadly, yes...but you can make up for it a little bit by wearing a pair of Daisy Dukes on the lower half. It doesn't make you any less of a redneck, but no one really cares. :mg:
for the ladies
I am definately into the cafepress idea, because I dislike dark colored T shirts, and don't wear hats because I look like a dork in them. I would probably get a mug or something. I have plenty of T's from all my 5K's. How would the cellar get any $$ from this?
Well the Cellar doesn't need to make a mint or anything.
With cafepress, the cellar (or more specifically UT, since he'll be the one to set up the account) would get whatever dollar amount he decided to charge in his "store" above cafepress's base price for any given item. At least a coupla bucks per shirt/mug/whatever... and maybe there could be one obviously overpriced "executive" item for people who were looking for an excuse to donate more. :)
I'm second-guessing what I said. In my estimation the Cellar requires approximately $120/month to operate correctly after its "transition" to co-location. $60 of it will be leased space and bandwidth, $60 will be the overall hardware costs which have always cropped up. In the recent past, tip jar donors, epecially one semi-anonymous benefactor, have covered these costs. The 2004 t-shirt money did help cover things.
I'm not including my own hours spent in system administration and such, which is really the bulk of the costs if one were actually paying to run a site. Hey it's a hobby. Also, past costs have been different (much higher) if one figured in the proportion of the T1 that it has taken up.
That's full disclosure. If we come up with ways to really eat more bandwidth, the costs would go up.
Whatever happened to the Cellar multiple player online gaming idea? We could chew up some *serious* bandwidth with that one.
I love the Cafe Press idea. I hate light shirts, but would definitely buy a Cellar mug or something. I, too, have seen their quality, and it is quite decent.
hey, UT - what does the tip jar produce for the cellar in an average month?
Including the semi-anonymous benefactor, or not?
I don't mind cafe press as long as I can get a stitched hat. Silk screen is fine for mugs, shirts, etc., but I want a stitched logo on the hat.
Cafe press sounds like the smart way to go ,, hats , shirts , mugs , mouse pads ( for those poor mouse bound folks ) , and THONGS !!!!
Yes i searched and they DO make THONGS !!!!! ;) ;) ;)
Well that would give away the benefactor's amount. And we should try to not require a single benefactor when there are so many other excellent causes in the world. Without, it comes to about $20/month I should think. People responded greatly when there was all the hardware trouble a few months ago.
ask and Ye shall receve !!!
Well that would give away the benefactor's amount.
good point, i wasn't really thinking.
it sounds like it is time for a cellar fund raising event. did that stupid thread i created a few months ago ( you know -with the annoying telethon theme) result in any additional donations?
maybe you could charge a nickel for every smilie posted? shit, then i'd have to get a second job.
ok, so let's make the logo already. I like h_p's monkeys, but want more choices. let's go, artsy types. and those of you with no talent could describe what you envision, at least.

You need a crazy old lady, name of Cocaine Sadie, to embroider on your hat. ;)

Isn't it "Cocaine Katie?" Oh, that's
beautiful.

I'm not going to be insulted if we don't use my far-from-complete typing monkeys concept, I was just throwing it out there in case anybody thought I ought to spend the energy to finish it. If I can think of any better ideas, I'll sketch 'em up and post 'em for feedback.
Isn't it "Cocaine Katie?"
Could very well be...it's been a very long time.
I've got my poor old grey haired daddy drivin' my limousine...

What the fuck is wrong with my fucking picture fucker?!
What the fuck is wrong with my fucking picture fucker?!
nothing, fucker.
just that
this one was from last year. yours uses the same things, but in a different arrangement. I guess I just assumed that we'd start with a clean slate, new ideas, etc.
Sorry about that, I was just channelling Sycamore for a moment.
What about a picture of a shit-slinging monkey? That may be appropriate.
I need to put that on the door to our lab... can someone digitally alter it to say lab monkeys are prone... ??
I think she wanted to keep "...to throw their own feces."
Oh...sorry. I thought she wanted to indicate that the monkeys in her lab were deceased.
how about "lab monkeys are porn"?
That seems accurate too. They don't have much else to do all day ...
yeah, i meant just add the word 'lab' before monkeys, but keep all the rest...this is referring to the personnel in the lab. we actually use rats and mice in our research.
i'm calling PETA. where the hell is garnet? we have crusade for her and her skinny little friends to become engrossed in.
What crusade? Supporting the inherent rights of lab monkeys to toss doodoo?
I don't believe in cross-feces fraternization. :eyebrow:
this is starting to look like no 2005 shirts happening.
this is starting to look like no 2005 shirts happening.
Sound like the cafépress idea is popular... We just need some collective ambition to get some graphics designed for the items. Then we can have shirts, hats, and mugs....
everyone will be happy, and the world will be at peace and stuff.
I'll try to remember to fart around with some design ideas this week, and have one or two rough ideas to suggest by Friday. If other graphics-type people do the same (including you, LumberJimmy), that should give us a pretty good selection, and we can decide from there.
Does that work?
Oh ye of little faith, ljim!
I don't think we'll get them by forks this year, but remember how long it took us to chew on the idea last year!!
I have ZERO artistic talent, so I'm not in a position to submit a design. There are a lot of awesomely fine artists here, though, and I'm sure something (probably several something) will arise.
Heck, we have unused designs left over from last year, don't we?

.
Sorry about that, I was just channelling Sycamore for a moment.
I may address people as "bitches" and throw out the occasional "nigger," but the excessive cussing is more WWD from the Bosque than me.
I really like the second one ... the b&w with the chimp at the old Underwood (I don't know if it is, I'm just guessing).
I may address people as "bitches" and throw out the occasional "nigger," but the excessive cussing is more WWD from the Bosque than me.
What's your point bitch?
Is that better?
i really like the one in post #94. that would look good on a coffe mug.
Well, I didn't get the time to work on images that I hoped for... I put together one rough idea, but it didn't turn out as interesting as I hoped. This is a VERY rough 10-minute sketch, certainly not a polished image:
I had a couple other ideas rattling around my head, but nothing I got the chance to develop. But I do like the B&W monkey-typing photo Lumberjim posted.
hehehe,, that would be a cool sticker HP.. bumper sticker perhaps ;)
since the design process is struggling.....
what say we just set up a cafe press with several of the best
tag lines and quotes that we've seen on here. we could do a field of 64 and use the elite eight.... or the swell sixteen ( or whatever basketball geeks call it when it gets to 16) we could use the same logo from the front of last years, but put the tag line on the back. that way, they'd be the same, yet individualizable..ish.
To have multiple pictures in one store, it costs money ($7/month) after the first two weeks. To have one picture on as many items as you like, it's forever free. Just wanted to toss that out there.
