Florida Bill seeks to

Bill H-837

Article about the bill here.

“Some professors say, ‘Evolution is a fact. I don’t want to hear about Intelligent Design (a creationist theory), and if you don’t like it, there’s the door,’” Baxley said, citing one example when he thought a student should sue.

Apparently, a Florida legislator is concerned that students who believe the earth is flat, or that it revolves around the sun, may have trouble getting an 'A' in Science. He has passed a bill which would allow a student to sue a teacher who does not respect the students views if they conflict with those of the instructor, or apparently the majority of the scientific establishment.

Of course, it will be real interesting to see what happens if you get a neo-nazi talking about racial superiority in a biology class. Can he sue the instructor for discrimination at the same time the instructor sues him for 'hate speech'?

And everyone thought that liberals were the ones running around making everyone be politically correct. It appears that we can only sit back and watch the true masters and information control and social engineering. :mad2:

Why is it always Florida? Is there something in the water down there?

The intelligent design argument is actually on fire at Dover High School in PA - (I graduated from there)....it's an interesting situation....I'll look for info for you.

One of my instructors has a book out about ID's attempt to conscript science to its side.

It's supposed to be pretty good, I haven't read it yet though.

Is anybody out there trying to prove any of the other creation myths?

Wouldn't it make sense that if one religion can be proven correct that any of the others should be provable as well?

I always figured that they were all correct.

Including evolution.

to laugh or cry, that is the question. Doubt they would waste a second on this stupid shit in Chinese or Indian schools.

They don't try to conscript science. They try to conscript America's appalling popular misconceptions about science.

But that doesn't answer my question.

Do you know of anyone doing said attempt at ID in the alternative religion groups?
wolf • Apr 7, 2005 11:57 am
Many people in the alternative religions barely believe in their alternative, much less religion as a whole. While there are many good, sincere, believing people, lots of 'em are borderline agnostics who just don't want to be Christian ... which is a really strange concept, when you consider that the majority of the ARs are experiential to some degree (that is, adherents have direct experience of and communication with diety).

So, no, I don't think they are pushing ID very hard.

I don't know all the ins and outs of ID, but I don't have any difficulty in accepting the hand or energy of creator in the process of life. Science being right doesn't mean religion can't be right too.

I would be more interested in knowing what Muslims, Buddhists, and Hindus have to say about evolution and ID.

Lately, I'm not sure why any of it matters. Evolution is a given -- you can see it at some level all around you every day. Whether it's as extensive as to turn a single-celled animal into a human, I'm not sure I buy. But who cares? No one will ever be able to "prove" one origin theory or the other. Let's just keep them both in the marketplace of ideas and stop fighting over shit that has no value in day-to-day life. If a kid believes God made the universe, he/she is not precluded from becoming a research scientist. Likewise, if someone believes we descended from (insert critter here), there's no reason they can't also believe in God.

Americans bitch and fight over EVERYthing.
