I don't celebrate cultural genocide day.

The Catholic Church and I have *issues*.

giving up.

Except for the part where the Christians killed off and assimilated the Pagan Irish, St. Patrick's Day is great! I've always felt that the drinking part was symbolic of drowning the guilt associated with the unsavory religious imperalism aspects of the thing.
BigV • Mar 17, 2005 2:13 pm
well.

Ok, shamrocks, green clothing or get pinched, green beer (if you must), leprechaun cartoon figures, etc.

There could easily be less here than assaults the sensibilites.

Happy St Patrick's Day to to all those who enjoy it! And for those who don't, tha's jus' swell--more for the rest of us!

My St. Patrick's Day  Unfortunately! No :guinness: Oh, well.
Clodfobble • Mar 17, 2005 4:00 pm
I put on my t-shirt with a clover on it this morning before I remembered it was St. Patrick's Day. Maybe my subconscious is controlling me more than I know.
LabRat • Mar 17, 2005 5:03 pm

St Patricks Day, as we know it, is an American Holiday that started in NYC with the Irish solders of King George parading around the streets, in the 1770s.
Up until a few years ago, it was strictly a religious holiday in Ireland, then they realized they could lure tourists and adopted the American style.
lookout123 • Mar 17, 2005 5:30 pm
patrick, did your day inspire any new pizza delivery stories? or a tale about a certain Ford with extremely low mileage?
chainsaw • Mar 17, 2005 5:34 pm
Michael O'Brien (a fine lad I work with) gave me one of these :eyebrow: and this :headshake when he saw my shamrock socks. I know it's a stupid holiday, but I DON'T CARE! :stpaddy: :stpaddy: :stpaddy: :stpaddy: :stpaddy:

I like smilies today.

No green (see above comments regarding genocide ... it's a sore issue for pagans. There were no snakes in Ireland), but I did wear a Genuine Irish Cable Knit Merino Wool Fisherman's Sweater. Made in Ireland, sold by QVC.

And... for those of you who don't know, the proper reply to

"Top of the mornin' to ya"

is

"And the rest of the day to you!"

I love QVC...they were selling "Irish" jewelry last night. Nearly bought Claddagh (sp?) earrings but they sold out before I could get to the phone.

I'm 100% Irish and the pagans can suck my dick. For that matter so can the Catholics...and the Protestants...and the Buddhists...etc I never leave home without my green. I've got a celtic cross in a celtic knot (the shield of destiny) tattood on my upper left arm.

St. Patrick's day is a celebration of being Irish, which for all of the rest of the year isn't such a great thing. It's a great excuse to have more than a few drinks with your friends, sing Irish songs, and beat up the English.

Nobody gives a shit about St. Patrick himself, the pagans who were in Ireland before, etc.

It's a party. Stop being a drain on the fun and enjoy yourself. I've been working my ass off at the new job (60 hrs per week) plus doing a lot of work for the Libertarian Party since elected to the executive committee for the entire state of California and becoming the chairman of the candidate support committee. This means I've had to postpone MY St. Patrick's day to the weekend. I'm considering drinking a few Irish car bombs and washing them down with a few pints of Guinness.

i saw a comedian, don't know his name, go on a rant about being from Irish descent. his attitude was, so what? what do i have in common with some of these famous Irish types like Colin Farrell - other than the fact that our great grandparents lived on potatoes and had sex in a field... as he put it, "i have nothing in common with Colin Farrell other than that. he has women fighting to get in bed with him, and i have to fly to Rio to find an affordable hooker."

What, no waitlist?

You gotta have 'em on speed dial, use automated ordering and impulse buy as soon as it's shown on air. Especially on St. Patty's Day and Rose of Tralee Day.

I have a pair of claddagh hoops that I bought last year.

I don't know how you could gather that from my quote, but no. Her interview has been scheduled for April 26th. She'll be coming to America in a less than a week after that. Then I'll be less available for awhile 'cause we'll be making babies....or at least practicing.

Radar decided that the mormons have a good business plan - keep populating the planet withyour own until everyone agrees with you... he is working on doing the same for libertarians.

No, just an immigration one.
