Jellybean Poll!

elf • Mar 14, 2005 2:16 pm
I have a theory.

It is thus: parenthood brings on a taste for black jellybeans. Moreso in Women than Men.
jinx • Mar 14, 2005 2:18 pm
This mother hates black jelly beans.
glatt • Mar 14, 2005 2:23 pm
Parents are loving and want their kids to have it better than they had it themselves. So they let the kids eat the good stuff and the parent eats the crappy black ones.

It's a theory. This dad hates the back jelly beans too.
lookout123 • Mar 14, 2005 2:25 pm
i hate black jelly beans. my son brings them to me, i throw them away. if you know of starving children who need them, let me know their address. until then, in the trash they go.
Happy Monkey • Mar 14, 2005 2:27 pm
I'm not a parent and I don't mind the black ones.

I detest, however, the Jelly Belly buttered popcorn ones. :greenface
elf • Mar 14, 2005 2:28 pm
hehe, four replies already and I didn't even get the poll-thingie up. Passionate about your jellybeans, are ye?
Happy Monkey • Mar 14, 2005 2:33 pm
The comments so far don't seem to support the theory...

This parent isn't too fastidious to just throw the damned black ones out if nobody wants to have them.

To paraphrase Kevin Kline in "A Fish Called Wanda" (defeated only by the champion "Blazing Saddles"):
"Avoid the black ones, they're not yet ripe"
perth • Mar 14, 2005 2:39 pm
I love the black jelly beans.

And for the record, I love the buttered popcorn ones even more. :P

No, and I think I'm kind of surprised. All of my aunts like the black jellybeans, three of which I've confirmed did not like them before having kids, and the other one I couldn't get ahold of to ask. My mother, also doesn't recall liking them as a child, but loves them now.

I distinctly remember disliking them as a child, but now I find myself fishing them out of the bag first.

My family must be weird.
LabRat • Mar 14, 2005 2:43 pm
my mom likes them, i DETEST them. dunno if daughter likes 'em.
mrnoodle • Mar 14, 2005 2:43 pm
i can eat black jellybeans until my mouth is completely numb. yummy.

Yes, alone they are horrid. Try a buttered popcorn with a blueberry one. Tastes just like a blueberry muffin!
elf • Mar 14, 2005 4:26 pm
I think the worst worst worst jellybean experience I had was when my son offered me a blueberry one, and it turned out to be one of Bertie Botts Everyflavor Beans and it was BLACK PEPPER.

I despise pepper. :greenface

My husband laughed at me for days. He said the expression on my face was absolutely priceless, and I believe him.
chainsaw • Mar 14, 2005 4:55 pm
OOOh, the vomit and sardine ones are SO much worse than the pepper. The green grass isn't so bad though.
Griff • Mar 14, 2005 4:58 pm
Black jelly beans are too icky for this Dad.
Elspode • Mar 14, 2005 5:26 pm
I like black jellybeans. Of course, I also like black jujubees...
Beestie • Mar 14, 2005 6:15 pm
Black jelly beans are good. But, cotton candy jelly beans are the best!
BrianR • Mar 15, 2005 9:16 am
I Like black (licorice) jellybeans but I'm a CHERRY fan all the way!

I recently moved buttered popcorn Jelly Bellys down a notch, supplanting them with Cappucino. BLECH! Horrid things, those. I'll have to try adding a blueberry with one to see if it's palatable.

I want a thread of Jelly Belly recipes!

Now I have to go to the PX for jelly beans, dammit! :)

Yay, I'm not the only one! Even my mother has her limitations. :D
elf • Mar 15, 2005 3:37 pm
well, as far as my theory goes, at least I was close in one respect: no fathers here have acquired the taste for the black jellybeans, but one other mother has.
Trilby • Mar 16, 2005 7:37 am
That's me, Elf! :)

Black Jellybeans and Black Licorice are horrid. I was actually upset that I couldn't eat Good 'n Plenty as a child, despite my love for Choo Choo Charlie. I do like Good and Fruity's though.
