for better or for worse, my parents didn't like video games, so they bought Atari's States and Capitol's game to investigate the evils of the computer era.

i had an average error of 13 miles. pretty embarrassing that i missed West Virginia by half a state though.

anybody care to see if they can name all 50 states and match them with their capitols?
warch • Feb 14, 2005 5:45 pm
88%, 21 miles, time 337

Connecticut was a baffler with no other new englanders to clue me. And my Wyoming drifted east....

Now that my exam is over... I got to play the whole thing - this wasn't my exam - it was actually on real estate finance.

My results:
94%
Average Error: 7miles
47/50

22 miles because I didn't realize they wanted it perfect. What the hell is the sense of using a computer if you have to put it right on the money. :p

I think it makes a big difference what order they happen to come up in. There are a ton I know I would have gotten wrong if two or three bordering states weren't already in place.

49 out of 50, 98%, Avg. error 3 miles

But this is tricky...it depends on what order you get the states. I played again and got a bunch of the big square states right in the beginning, with nothing around them. I got creamed.

I screwed up tennessee big time... and i've played twice and that one messes me up each time!

47 out of 50 ... I think I had a 13 mile avg. error. I did this at work, and forgot to email myself the results.

My excuse is that I have a Bachelor's Degree in Geography. Really.

46 out of 50 with a 12 mile error. I slipped with the mouse on one and dropped it half a state away.

I was damn lucky to place Nebraska perfectly with no border states present.

86% 42 miles error, 265 seconds. And I completely blew Connecticut (placed it by New Hampsire)
mrnoodle • Feb 15, 2005 5:17 pm
94%, 11 miles, 339 seconds. Got Rhode Island and Delaware's locations switched. Lucked into Connecticut and Vermont, though. How do you people keep track of those little tiny eastern states? I would be utterly lost within 3 hours.

It's easy, in 3 hours you could traverse most of New England. Plus we express distances up here by time traveled rather than miles, Boston is about an hours drive from here, Vermont is 2 hours, Maine...give it about 2 and a half hours to the border. ;)

Try adding 7 hours to that. Maine is big (for New England.) And that's ignoring Vermont completely.

I guess your car isn't as fast as 404's. :rollhappy
404Error • Feb 16, 2005 9:33 am
Actually, traverse was probably the wrong word. I meant you could reach most of the NE states borders from where I am in CT in about 3 hours.

44 out of 50, 386 seconds, 26 miles. If you get states in the middle of the country in the beginning, it's tough. Plus I accidentally slipped up with the mouse button on California, which was really bad.

90% perfect, 31 miles avg error, 631 seconds -- first try, will try again after I finish 6th grade geography.
