Numanuma, spreading to a website near you!

Dunlavy • Feb 12, 2005 12:00 pm
Over the past couple of months a song by a band known as O-zone, called Mi-ya-hii, began taking a flash turn for the worst. We are now plagued to see strange guys dancing on their webcams and even nerdier guys making a Starwarskid-esk movie to the song, these are known as Numanuma.

Now for your fear... Here is Numanuma

(by the by, I couldn't decide whether to put this under entertainment or internet. I decided to the latter because it IS becoming an internet craze.)
Elspode • Feb 12, 2005 9:18 pm
Well, I don't know about any of the other products in this "craze", but I gotta say that I've seen much worse amateur video efforts online. I think this kid did a pretty good job on what he was doing, actually.
Beestie • Feb 12, 2005 10:36 pm
Amateur my ass, that guy knows what he's doing with a video camera. He even used the technique Hitchcock made famous in Vertigo where, to simulate the dizzying effect, he would simultaneously back the camera away from the subject while zooming in to keep the subject at the exact same visual distance but distort the background.

In all, I thought it was a cool video but maybe 30 seconds too long.
Dunlavy • Feb 13, 2005 12:49 pm
Yeah, I liked everything except for the last part, if that's what you were trying to say. And I know it's not an amateur, it seems to be like a planned out starwarskid. You think that's bad? The more amateur one is the one you can find more often around google, it's of a somewhat fat nerd guy dancing in his chair to the song with his webcam.
Undertoad • Feb 13, 2005 12:57 pm
I saw that one and it seems definitive, I doubt I can ever think of anything else when hearing that song.
Dunlavy • Feb 13, 2005 1:02 pm
But you have to admit that it's catchy. Maybe I should make a post about this in Conspiracy theories.... I watched it in the library office at my school, some people saw it, they began watching it and people watched them. Soon enough the announcement program played it as the opening theme, now I can hear it walking down the halls....
Miska • Feb 13, 2005 8:45 pm
Hate to sound like an ass, but it's called 'Dragostea Din Tei.'
Dunlavy • Feb 14, 2005 2:57 pm
Then why does the band call is Mai-Ya-Hii? The band is O-zone, and under a site that's what the song is titled. Where are you getting your facts from?

Okay, just cheked a few more sites, it's hard to tell anymore. Some dites have Dragosta Din Tei while others have Numanuma or Mai-Ya-Hii.
lol • Feb 14, 2005 7:24 pm
>=( ebaumsworld stole that and replaced the video
Dunlavy • Feb 14, 2005 7:26 pm
Not suprised.... Ebaumsworld does everything..... I think there's a movie of me clipping my toe nails on there somewhere...... ^_^
Griff • Feb 14, 2005 8:23 pm
That video is just intoxicating!
Dunlavy • Feb 14, 2005 10:17 pm
the song shall envelope you..... You shall spread it! The song comands it!

Reminds me of the Happy wanderer;

I love to go awandering
Along the mountain track
And when I go, I love to sing
My knapsack on my back

Valderee, valderah,
Valderee, valderah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha,
Valderee, valderah,
My knapsack on my back

I love to wander by the stream
That dances in the sun
So joyously, it calls to me
Come join my happy song

Valderee, valderah,
Valderee, valderah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha,
Valderee, valderah,
Come join my happy song
[Play it Jeffrey!]

Overhead, the skylarks wing
They never rest at home
But just like me, they love to sing
As o'er the world we roam

Valderee, valderah,
Valderee, valderah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha,
Valderee, valderah,
As o'er the world we roam
Dunlavy • Feb 15, 2005 9:06 am
Never heard that one.... Hum, I'll look it up sometime.

Is this to the tune of the old Calgary beer commercial? I didn't know there was a real song behind that.
Elspode • Feb 15, 2005 2:02 pm
Oh, heck yeah! One of the campfire classics. For those of us of a certain age, it was standard grade school music class fare.
Dunlavy • Feb 15, 2005 3:11 pm
We all do.... and the song tells you that only people that spread the song through out an area no less than 5 miles may be his friend.
garnet • Feb 15, 2005 8:08 pm
There is something addictive about this, but I'm not sure exactly what it is. The kid certainly has lots of charisma.
Dunlavy • Feb 16, 2005 2:38 pm
I would too if I was dancing to that song.

In case anyone was interested here's the Romanian lyrics and English translation of the words to the song Numanuma or Dragostea Din Tei, whichever you prefer.

Chorus 1 (4 times) -
Ma-ia-hii
Ma-ia-huu
Ma-ia-hoo
Ma-ia-haha [These are just sounds.]

- Verse 2 -
Alo, Salut, sunt eu, un haiduc,
Si te rog, iubirea mea, primeste fericirea.
Alo, alo, sunt eu Picasso,
Ti-am dat beep, si sunt voinic,
Dar sa stii nu-ti cer nimic.

Hello [on a cellphone], greetings, it's me, an outlaw,
I ask you, my love, to accept happiness.
Hello, hello, it's me, Picasso,
I sent you a beep [cellphone signal], and I'm brave [or strong],
But you should know that I'm not asking for anything from you.

- Chorus 3 (2 times) -
Vrei sa pleci dar nu ma, nu ma iei,
Nu ma, nu ma iei, nu ma, nu ma, nu ma iei.
Chipul tau si dragostea din tei,
Mi-amintesc de ochii tai.

You want to leave but you don't want don't want to take me, don't want don't want to take me, don't want don't want don't want to take me.
Your face and the love from the linden trees,
And I remember your eyes.

- Verse 4 -
Te sun, sa-ti spun, ce simt acum,
Alo, iubirea mea, sunt eu, fericirea.
Alo, alo, sunt iarasi eu, Picasso,
Ti-am dat beep, si sunt voinic,
Dar sa stii nu-ti cer nimic.

I call you [over the phone], to tell you what I feel right now,
Hello, my love, it's me, your happiness.
Hello, hello, it's me again, Picasso,
I sent you a beep [cellphone signal] and I'm brave [or strong],
But you should know that I'm not asking for anything from you.

Chorus 3
Chorus 1
Chorus 3

well that loses a lot in the translation, doesn't it.

What ever you do, please don't find a translation for Ma-na-ma-na

This song and that fat kid are both awesome! It's addictive and fun. I was looking for a thread on this, or I was gonna start my own. This is just classic.
LOVE it.
