The Landmark Thread

lookout123 • Feb 10, 2005 3:23 pm
*ahem* welcome one and all to post number 2000. you may leave giftcards in the basket. please enjoy a beverage and some cake. :band:  :guinness: :biggrindu

I've seen people comment on their landmark posts in whatever topic they were posting in at the time. I thought if we are going to take the time to mention our landmark posts, maybe we should have asingle thread in which to do so.

this is it.

I bestow upon you all this thread as my vain way of drawing attention to myself and my 2000th post.
Trilby • Feb 10, 2005 3:25 pm
What kind of beverage? Oh, and congrats on being, uh, a poster boy!--now, where's that beverage..?
elf • Feb 10, 2005 3:26 pm
Frigging bah. I was gonna start this thread. .. but mostly just to rack up more posts. :p

Congrats on 2000, lookout..

and congrats on 1000, Zippyt. :)

nope? oh well check it out it's funny.. in a way only california can be.
jaguar • Feb 10, 2005 6:34 pm
I realized the other day I missed 4000, that was silly.
richlevy • Feb 10, 2005 6:41 pm
Well, my stats are:

Total Posts: 1,269 (0.85 posts per day).

Now, in my defense, I do work for a living and do not post from work, which reduces my available time. At the current rate, I will not reach post 2000 for 860 days.
richlevy • Feb 10, 2005 6:42 pm
um.... 859 days?

Your math was off, LJ. But at these scales, that could be attributed to rounding error. Good Grief! Who knew Yoda and Gandi's sensei had so much to say.

Congrats xoB on piercing the 10000 mark!

Uh,...thanks. But it's no big deal. There were probably only 25 reasonable, rational, thought out posts. The rest are just smart-ass remarks, anecdotes and biased opinions.

Hey I joined about the same time as you (I think - what does it say? <--- ) and I didn't cross the 600 post threshold until just a month or two ago.

I feel like my activity here comes in spurts. I'll disappear for a few weeks, come back and post actively for a week or two, then off I go again.

But it's not that I'm not keeping up - I do read through new posts at least once a day.

I try to be active and contribute as much as I can hammer out after long days at work - but I think I'm a definite frontrunner for the thread killer prize.

:worried:

Or you could have just claimed that your post in this thread was your 2000th post. Everyone reading it would assume you had made 22 posts since then. Not such a stretch, and nobody would go back to check.

By the way, this is my 3,500th post. ;)

I just sold a service contract for $2112 in honor of your 2112th post, Ib.

now, if i could just get someone to honor xoxoxobruce in the same fashion.....
lookout123 • Nov 15, 2006 5:56 pm
so what is that about $1900 in leg, LJ?
lumberjim • Nov 15, 2006 6:46 pm
The term 'leg' ....or 'air' or 'fluff' refers to a deliberately overestimated monthly payment. when a customer knows enough to negotiate the interest rate, and knows the sale price, and even the amount financed, the salesman will occasionally tell them that their payment is $20-$50 more than it actually is. They do it because they can always come down, and if the customer says yes, it makes it much easier to sell ancillary items because the actual payment increase is hidden therin. It is actually illegal to do this intentionally, but very hard to prove that it wasn;t just a mistake in the quotation.

The service contract referenced above retails for $2495, so I actually discounted it to get to that price. If you meant 'profit'...then no, nowhere near that much profit. most service contract have 100% profit margin,IOW about half of the price = cost.
lookout123 • Nov 15, 2006 10:34 pm
it's illegal for you guys to throw leg in? not down here. it is the assumed practice. when i was selling i knew i'd have one seriously pissed off f&i guy if i didn't give him at least $15/month to play with in back.

Shawnee123 • Jun 7, 2007 10:03 am
It's been a year since I first signed on to the Cellar. Happy Anniversary to me.

Things I've learned from the Cellar:

There are wonderful (funny, smart, caring) people the world over.

There are mean (selfish, dispassionate, hurtful) people the world over.

I'm not as funny as I think I am. :)

I can be overbearing. Everything is not all about me.

I have good qualities that some people appreciate.

I may be the most hated person on the Cellar.

I like learning about other's opinions, and have even had second thoughts about some of my deeply ingrained opinions.

I learned what FSM, tubgirl, and that hand/buttspread thing I can't think of the name of is.

I've learned that coffee out the nose hurts.

I've learned that I'm a big wimp softy who takes things too personally (I actually already knew that...I just didn't know it was universal.) :)

I've also learned that I still put some importance on being asked to sit at the cool table.

I thank you all for the good times, the bad times, and all the times in between. Thanks for the laughs, the tears, and the opportunities to take a second look at myself.

You're an eclectic, wonderful, smart group of folks.

Whether ya hate me or not. ;)

now i dont know which name to carry on with...now that the jig is up. on one hand, it's an opportunity to do some attention whoring...which is good...and on the other... there really isnt any difference between the two, and no reason to post as both.....so....which one? guess i'll shut the fuck up about it already and just go back to using lumberjim as my regular name. sorry everyone for this little failed escapade. i'll try to be a big jerk as often as possible, and make you uncomfortable as often as possible. as is my role.

Je ne sais quoi means I don't know what - it has something you can't quite define - usually accepted as being classy :)
Je ne sais pas would simply mean (roughly) I don't know and therefore could relate to any number of things.

Post counts, as of RFN:

Dana: 9,904
Brianna: 9,678
Sundae Girl: 9,625

Who will be the first to myriate? Dana has a strong lead, but her recent illness might slow her down. Brianna and Sundae are closely matched. Meanwhile, Glatt on 9,245 and Lookout on 9,135 are both in the running.

And in the junior league, we have:

Sweetwater 999
Spudcon 996
BreakingNews 994

It's neck-and neck for the milleniation cup! Binky on 977 and Pico and Me on 976 are further back but are in position to make a dash for the line if the first three falter.

Ladbrokes of London are taking bets now!

999

999 mostly pointless and largely unnoticed posts.

999 posts seems a lot to me but after five-and-a-half years that only works out at one every couple of days. It’s nothing, is it.

I was directed here by a friend from another site, someone I never actually met, and never will now, he passed away a short while back. I never thanked him for his tip. I know he wasn’t the sort of guy who ever needed thanks so I hope we’re cool and if Jannah is real I’ll sort it out there.

My previous experience of message boards were either of the music-based types or centred around my lifelong hobby of motorsport so this more general sort of place was new to me. I’ve enjoyed the place thoroughly but I’m not the most ‘chatty’ of people by nature so perhaps I’ve never really fitted in too well.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who has responded to any of my nonsense over these years. 999 is a great number and this seems like an excellent point for me to disappear now into full lurk mode.

For an internet activity, that is literally a long time association... literally.

I am literally over the moon about your longevity here. :)

Eight years is enough time to really get to know people. You've become one of the pillars of the Cellar, Sundae. On September 28 I'll say 'Many Years' for you, both within and without the Cellar. Keep on keeping on, gurl.

No, I don't always love you Grav.
But there are many times when I thank FSM you fell into the Cellar.

I agree--we may not see eye to eye on every single topic, but your contributions are a part of the whole, and very necessary.

actually Jack Handy:
“When I was a kid my favorite relative was Uncle Caveman. After school we'd all go play in his cave, and every once in a while he would eat one of us. It wasn't until later that I found out that Uncle Caveman was a bear.”

A landmark of a different kind for me today.

Today marks the end of a fifteen year tour of duty in the battle of the teenagers. I'm still Dad, but no more teenagers for me!
Gravdigr • Apr 6, 2015 6:19 pm

Ya oughta get a patch, or, something.
