Cool motorcycles
I'll start with an image of the same model I currently have, a BMW R1100S:
This is considered by many to be the most beautiful sportbike made, the MV Agusta F4:

The Norton name will return with this:
The Vincent with this:

It's not a shadow or lightning but I'll take it. :D
Oh says Red Molly to James "That's a fine motorbike.
A girl could feel special on any such like"
Says James to Red Molly "My hat's off to you
It's a Vincent Black Lightning, 1952.
And I've seen you at the corners and cafes it seems
Red hair and black leather, my favourite colour scheme"
And he pulled her on behind and down to Boxhill they did ride
Oh says James to Red Molly "Here's a ring for your right hand
But I'll tell you in earnest I'm a dangerous man.
For I've fought with the law since I was seventeen,
I robbed many a man to get my Vincent machine.
Now I'm 21 years, I might make 22
And I don't mind dying, but for the love of you.
And if fate should break my stride
Then I'll give you my Vincent to ride"
"Come down, come down, Red Molly" called Sergeant McRae
"For they've taken young James Adie for armed robbery.
Shotgun blast hit his chest, left nothing inside.
Oh come down, Red Molly to his dying bedside"
When she came to the hospital, there wasn't much left
He was running out of road, he was running out of breath
But he smiled to see her cry
He said "I'll give you my Vincent to ride"
Says James "In my opinion, there's nothing in this world
Beats a 52 Vincent and a red headed girl.
Now Nortons and Indians and Greeves won't do,
Ah, they don't have a soul like a Vincent 52"
Oh he reached for her hand and he slipped her the keys
Said "I've got no further use for these.
I see angels on Ariels in leather and chrome,
Swooping down from heaven to carry me home"
And he gave her one last kiss and died
And he gave her his Vincent to ride.
Forgot to mention the artist - Richard Thompson
I saw Ralph Stanley perform that last year. :)
Here's the real deal Vincent Black Shadow:
And a great link full of Vincent photos:

This is a famous photo of Rollie Free breaking the 150-mph mark on a Black Lightning in 1948:

Great link Gromits.
The only Shadow I ever saw in person, outside a museum, was at Laconia about 1971.
It was being ridden by a girl with red hair and black leather (with no silver findings) from head to toe.
Just under 6’, maybe 160 lbs and at least 20 years worth of fantasy fuel. :joylove:
mmmm, motortoys... I like ye olde Harleys.... my fave:

One more year till I can legally ride my new toy, Ducati S4R.
Monster looks. 996cc superbike engine. 83,4 kW - 113 HP @ 8750 rpm. 193kg.
Been saving for this for a while.
Slick ride there Jag , but red wheels ???? Oh well , to each his own .
GP, that new Notron gives me WOOD !!!!!!! Oh and the Vincent as well !!!!!!
That's a hellova bike, jaguar! I've heard nothing but good things about the S4R.
You've reminded of some upcoming Ducatis that are as pretty as they get; retro tributes to some of their classics from the 70's.

One of my very favorite artists, whom I have seen perform that incredibly fine piece of songwriting three different times, now.
I'm tossing it up at the moment. I do love the grey/red, and with nice new jet black tires the arse of the thing is quite a sight indeed. However there is a very, very nice blue version with a white stripe and white wheels which is gorgeous too....Basically it comes down to whether I buy one off a guy I know in Switzerland who wants to sell one, price is reasonable and there's some nice mods as well, or whether I buy it new which gives me the blue/white option. Either way I'm going to get screwed nice and hard on insurance.
Considering I'm in london it's not really an in-town bike, it really bites and complains at low speed and the clutch weighs a ton but once you open it up...damn...too much fun to resist by half.
DAMN GP !!!!! I just made a sticky mess on my key board !!!!!! ;)
I LOVE the frames on those Ducati's !!! The first one is Verry cool !! The second , its ok , but the third one , shit i may need to get a second morgage on my house , THAT bike is SHARP !!!!!!!

Agreed. Shoot out the lights.
I found a good image of the one I'd like to get. I test rode on of these, and it sounds as good as it looks. It's an MV Agusta Brutale S:
There might still be $50 raffle tickets available for one, out of 500 total...
I tried to post a pic of my bike here but it got lost in the ether and now I can't repost it and I don't know where the Cellar put the original.
If anyone can help me, I'll share my bike pics...
rename the pic , you only have to change one letter
Sometimes renaming won't work. I've had one, I had to make a slight alteration to the actual picture and rename to get it accepted. I thought that was strange but that's the only way I could upload it.
Not as cool as the others but it's mine.
Stab in the dark Brian, '85, 1000cc. Don't really know my hondas outside the 600sF/RRs
Just noticed they released the S2R, 800cc version of the S4R, initial reviews are damn positive. Intersting. Cost me about as much as a 2nd hand S4R and some very, very purty new colour schemes...
It's all about the arse:

Nice headrest.
A dozen or more years ago, General Motors did an engineering exercise that was the same idea except with the single wheel in front. The cornering forces (read speeds) they were generating were considerably higher than any bike.
You missed Jag. It's a 1982 750. sez so on the side...hence the V45 and not V65 which is the larger engine. In 1985 they redesigned the engine to be a 700 to comply with new import tariffs. All they did was slip in a cylinder sleeve and changed the oiling path a little.
To get this particular beast back on th eroad, I need to figure out where the clutch is leaking pressure and fix it. I wish for a cable clutch.
Brian
Well I did say I didn't have a clue what I was talking about ;)
I know that's going to be quoted back to me one day.

Well, if you're not seeing any fluid, you can narrow it down to inside. Can't ya?
Methinks there's a leak in the master cylinder somewhere leaking back into the reservoir.
Either that or I forgot to tighten the clutch line after I took it out to inspect it. No stoppages, no leaks found. A slightly corroded Zerk fitting but that shouldn't be the problem. I will likely replace it anyway because it's only $.50 at the hardware store.
Mostly I'm waiting until it's warm outside again in April or so before I get back at it.
My Seca 750 only needs new turn signals and an exhaust so I may do that first and go after the Sabre later. At least I know what's wrong with the Yamaha and can fix it easily, if not cheaply. Then I can sell it and get that Shadow 750 I've been wanting. ;)
Brian
that ducati looks like that grunty little buell.
I saw Ralph Stanley perform that last year. :)
was lucky enough to see him do it again just a few weeks ago at royce hall. . . .:thumb:
wonderful bikes. but ya
know, i'm partial.
so are BMWs still all shaft-driven?
Jag - Those stats are about the same of a bike I had long ago, VF1000R. Surely your bike there has better designs and more updated features. Have fun. I wish those sorts of things fit into my life nowdays.
BrianR - I like that Sabre. Those are hard to find now in decent shape.
Courtesy link for the VF1000RI had these bikes many many moons ago when I had a life "sigh" :D
so are BMWs still all shaft-driven?
All except the F650s, which are belt-driven.
The only bike I ever owned. God, I want another bike...
...although I had a very good friend during this same time period who stored his bike in my garage, and let me have free use of it for almost two years. Much bigger...much faster...much more better.
None of those hold a candle up to one of these babies!
:D
LUV those 2 strokers Be-bop. Too bad they arent still allowed here.
No wait, I've been to Asia.....never mind.
A desert racer sidehack based on a HD V-Rod. This raced at Dakar:
Valentino Rossi's MotoGP Championship bike, in the 50th Anniversary livery brought out for just the race held at Laguna Seca:
An upcoming Yamaha MT-01 I've got a hankering for:

A sidecar in the Dakkar? Just when you thought they couldn't find a way to make it more dangerous...
