How do you change a weblink to read what you want it to say, like click here ?

Or if you were talking about Cellar links, in your posts....

Except replace the curly brackets { } with SQUARE brackets [ ]

easier way: when replying, click go advanced, then type the text, highlight it, and click the little button that has a globe .....copy/paste your url, ...voila~!

Right click on the picture and save it to your hard drive then you can post it using the 'manage attachments' function under Attach Files in Reply to Thread.

Carbonated_Brains- I'm not clear on why there's two formats: (space inserted)

One of those formats applies specifically to this message board, the Cellar. Only use [ URL= when you're posting a message onto the cellar, and perhaps other message boards. It's special code just for this software.


If you're trying to make a webpage in GENERAL, use the < a href= type. This is a "tag", or segment of code, in a scripting language called HTML.

So, square brackets for the Cellar, angle brackets for making web pages.




To FURTHER confuse you....the square brackets AND the angle bracket type both work in the cellar. They do the same thing. But you can't use square brackets to make webpages!

Don't mind me....I'm just trying out all of these little buttons. I was so happy to learn how to rename links, that I'm taking it a step further...

I was not pushing or suggesting avatars for the cellar. I like the cellar the way it is, it is a fun interesting place to come to. I was just asking a general question on how to use them for other forums....chill

It's an address on the internets that "points" to your picture, or document.

Ask somebody on the board what the SIZE of the avatar has to be. Some of them have limits on size. If they do, you'll have to reduce the size to meet the limits.

Then just put the URL of the image, and you're there.

I got a couple more questions:

- My comcast account has my name on it. If I host images there, won't my name appear in the image url? (I want it to be anonymous).

- How do you generate characters with accents, umlauts, tildes?

I'm not sure about comcast, but Cox offers multiple email addresses, and you get 10M of webspace per email address. If Comcast is the same then create a more anonymous email address, and use that webspace.

How much would you pay for decent image hosting? What amounts of bandwidth would you expect to take up?

I use onfinite now and get 150MB for $0.99/mo. 400MB is available for $1.99, but they only host jpegs. I need to host gifs (which they're supposed to start handling soon) and videos, like wmvs, which they have to plans to host.

Videos eat up a lot of space, maybe I need around 500MB, a few dollars a month seems fair...
