Hello? I'm there are you?

Schrodinger's Cat • Jan 9, 2005 10:33 pm
Been lurking for a bit and finally decided to jump from one box to the next. Hi, all!

Welcome! I'm here, but not all there.

Aren't you dead yet????

But since you're not, welcome!

i had some friends that had a band called Schrodinger's Cat about 10 years ago. i hadn't thought about them for years. welcome and thanks for jogging the memory.
Elspode • Jan 9, 2005 11:34 pm
Not dead, but merely a fog of probabilities.

Welcome. Great handle, BTW. Have you seen "What the Bleep Do We Know?", and if so, what did you think of it?

Theoretically, any reports of my demise may possibly be premature. I observe that I am still able to twitch my whiskers and swish my tail, so I infer from this that I am still viable at the moment.

So, thank you. ;)
cowhead • Jan 10, 2005 3:56 am
open the box! open the box!.. c'mon we gotta know..

and as well as you can still swish your tail.. heh..you ought to be alive... although I've known a couple of cats who continued to purr years after they shuffed off this mortal coil.. (love yer name though)

Welcome. Hey, who let the cat out of the bag? nyuk nyuk nyuk

Please ready two #2 pencils, an eraser, a stopwatch, and some construction paper.

Damn! I knew I shouldn't have toked up on catnip this morning! :D

Actually, you were given a clue when the pencils were mentioned. Basically, if you use them to write the answers to the test on your monitor, you pass. Extra credit if you have a 19" or larger LCD or plasma display.

How about a morse code reply via my handy new cloud chamber? (Not available in stores! Call 1-800 - NOW!). All that dry ice frosts my whiskers, so this test better be a brief, true/false thing.

BTW, the management of most theaters will not allow cats, so I am awaiting the release of "What the bleep do we know?" on DVD. Sounds interesting. I look forward to viewing it.

PS Why am I now a "rapscallion"?
Elspode • Jan 10, 2005 3:43 pm
Random selection, user-configurable in the User Control Panel. The defaults are only fun for awhile, then you want to start making up your own stuff.
lookout123 • Jan 10, 2005 3:55 pm
els, maybe it is time for another word association thread and the cat can watch his title change.
Elspode • Jan 10, 2005 5:45 pm
I think that "turd association" is still flatulating along...he could try that.

Well, I'm sure I could dig a gem or two out of the litter box, but, meanwhile, maybe I'll give making a reply on one of the other threads a try. Thanks for the explanation of "rapscallion." I will consult T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats for a more permanent nome de guerre !

Alrighty there, you old moggy.

Answers:

1.

2.

C.

IV.

5.

6.

7.

8.

IX.

As per the instructions given by Professor Elspode, I have used my finest no. 2 pencil and written my answers clearly and neatly on my 19" computer display. Did I pass? :worried: .
xoxoxoBruce • Jan 12, 2005 4:56 am
With flying colors.

Oh great, another smartass... just what we need.
lumberjim • Jan 12, 2005 12:41 pm
man, another brilliantly composed test wasted. oh, and you missed number ten. I'm sorry, I'll have to give you an 'incomplete'

Oops! Sorry about that. Here you go:

ten.

Note: Of course the above answer depends upon one's definition of "now." The value I have given in response to question (ten) was arrived at through the application of noncommutative geometry as an alternative hidden structure of Kaluza-Klein theory. This means that one leaves space-time as it is and one modifies only the extra dimensions; one replaces their algebra of functions by a noncommutative algebra, usually of finite dimension to avoid the infinite tower of massive states of traditional Kaluza-Klein theory. Because of this restriction and because the extra dimensions are purely algebraic in nature the length scale associated with them can be arbitrary, indeed as large as the Compton wave length of a typical massive particle.

The algebra of Kaluza-Klein theory is therefore, for example, a product algebra of the form:

A = C(V ) ⊗Mn.

Normally V would be chosen to be a manifold of dimension four, but since much
of the formalism is identical to that of the M(atrix)-theory of D-branes. For the simple models with a matrix extension one can use as gravitational action the Einstein-Hilbert action in ‘dimension’ 4+d, including possibly Gauss-Bonnet terms.

I don't have D-branes to go even get involved in this. [/blatant post count]

Personally, I always stick to the following: X=Y when the prism of mount Etna falls on a tuesday. I've lived my life by that rule!

And a wise man you are. Gotta watch out for those prism effects which occur on Thurdays. Makes my fur stand on end just thinking about it! :D
