I got a digital camera for christmas!

staceyv • Jan 5, 2005 5:08 pm
forget it...i can't upload my pistures because the files are too big and I have no idea how to fix that. oh well...
Happy Monkey • Jan 5, 2005 5:28 pm
To take pictures specifically for posting, just turn the resolution down to 640x480/low to medium quality, and you should be fine. To shrink a full size image, I like to use The Gimp, though I'm sure there's some nifty minimal utility to do the job.
404Error • Jan 5, 2005 5:59 pm
The best digital image utility I've used to date is Irfanview. It's quick and easy to use, small download, and it's free too!

Other than that, you can always open your picture in MS Paint, click on the image menu and follow these directions. Once you've resized the picture click on the file menu and save the image. Easy!
SteveDallas • Jan 5, 2005 6:17 pm
I second irfanview. Always shoot at the highest resolution that's practical given your camera & memory card. It'll still look good if you have to shrink it, but if you have to blow up a small image you'll get image degradation.
richlevy • Jan 5, 2005 10:16 pm
I can't say enough nice things about Irfanview. I have lots of full-featured programs, but nothing will shrink and change the JPG quality in batch mode like Irfanview. You could turn a long list of 750K files from a 3.1 megapixel camera into 60K files for e-mailing and Cellar posting.

It's one of the best freeware photo apps out there.
staceyv • Jan 8, 2005 12:46 pm
I think I figured it out! (okay, my husband told me how...) I'll put more pictures in later, We have to go grocery shopping...this one is me singing karaoke on christmas night.
staceyv • Jan 8, 2005 12:51 pm

staceyv • Jan 8, 2005 12:52 pm
okay, I think I have it. Arsen on New Year's Eve :)
staceyv • Jan 8, 2005 12:55 pm
okay, one more try. I'm still trying to figure out the best size and quality and all that for uploading. Here's me with my son:
richlevy • Jan 8, 2005 3:01 pm
You know your husband looks a little like Robert Downey Jr. No wait, it is Robert Downey Jr. Run! Run for your life!

Is that money on the sofa for him to keep playing...or to quit? ;)
Elspode • Jan 9, 2005 12:18 am
You know, I thought I was fairly up on guitar stuff, but...what in the world is an Indiana guitar? That is a totally new one on me. Tell Arsen his "c" chord looks well-formed.

What are you singing in the karaoke pic?
404Error • Jan 9, 2005 12:50 am
I'd say it's probably the Scout model.
xoxoxoBruce • Jan 9, 2005 11:22 am
I bet Syracuse. ;)
staceyv • Jan 9, 2005 7:35 pm
Okay, it's a cheap guitar. I bought it because it was blue...yeah, I like blue. The money? I really don't remember, but if I have to pick between the options given, I'd say it was to get him to stop. He was playing "pieces of me" by Ashlee Simpson. He even sings along. It's scary. On a brighter note, I have a real live picture of a whale penis!! I took it today. A big whale washed up at the beach the day before christmas and they decided to let it sit there until it decomposes, which probably won't happen until spring. Anyway, I was thinking of you guys when I took the picture. Too bad it was getting dark and the picture's hard to see, but it's pretty big, so you shouldn't have too much trouble :)
Elspode • Jan 9, 2005 7:45 pm
1) I intended no dissing toward the price, quality or any other aspect of the instrument...I was just expressing surprise that there was guitar out there I'd never heard of. Thanks to the link, I now know they are a subset of SHS, an importer and brander of a wide range of musical gear. :D

2) I'm sorry, but you're going to have to go back and take a picture of the whale penis in the daylight. You can't pass up an opportunity to get a good, original photo a whale penis.
Elspode • Jan 9, 2005 7:49 pm
This makes it a bit more visible, but I'm still not sure what I'm seeing...
Undertoad • Jan 9, 2005 7:56 pm
If you get a daytime pic, send it to me and I'll make it image of the day.
staceyv • Jan 9, 2005 8:20 pm
I would be honored  I'm all emotional now, look!
Undertoad • Jan 9, 2005 8:55 pm
You gonna make Jacquelita all jealous now.

Okay, uncropped picture goes to the highest bidder. We'll start with $5,000. :yelgreedy
lumberjim • Jan 9, 2005 10:13 pm
I'll give you 7,000 Lire?
lumberjim • Jan 9, 2005 10:15 pm

staceyv • Jan 9, 2005 10:24 pm

staceyv • Jan 9, 2005 10:27 pm

staceyv • Jan 9, 2005 10:34 pm
whoa, I just realized that I am a married woman trying to sell naked pictures of my body over the internet. Oops, I drank too much last night before we took those pictures, tempoary lapse of judgement. Deal's off, keep your dongs and lire.
staceyv • Jan 10, 2005 1:26 pm
We went back to the beach today just in time! It turns out they decided to move the whale. I had no idea they were going to move it, I just got lucky because the way they had him gave me the perfect view of his whale penis. Now I understand what all the hype is about. Enjoy.
staceyv • Jan 10, 2005 1:27 pm
a few more...
staceyv • Jan 10, 2005 1:27 pm

Well, I'm definitely keeping my dong, pictures or no pictures. Still and all, they are enticing.
Elspode • Jan 10, 2005 11:38 pm
Oh, and I just want to go on the record to say that I think it is downright spooky that Stacey gets a digicam for Xmas, and right away she takes a picture of an honest to goodness, in the flesh whale penis!

Think of the odds...The Cellar is one the Internet's foremost whale penis discussion sites, Staceyv is a Cellarite (a returning Cellarite at that, no? Weren't you gone for awhile, Stacey?), and she lives somewhere where there just happens to be a whale penis on display for her to take pictures of and post here.

If you didn't believe in Fate before, you'd almost have to, now.
Elspode • Jan 10, 2005 11:48 pm
Based on the city name on the cop car door, I'm guessing that this is Staceyv's whale. I read several articles concerning this critter. Seems they were, at first, just going to let it rot in place due to its inconvenient location. Apparently, the increasingly foul odor and the birds it attracted were deemed a poor attraction for the park in which it came to rest, and so it was removed today.

Great pics, Stacey! This has got to be a true classic Cellar moment!
staceyv • Jan 10, 2005 11:55 pm
Thanks! I'm proud of myself for getting the image of the day. Yes, it must've been fate, you're right about those odds...I was gone for awhile. I haven't had any drama in my life or pressing issues that I needed advice on/ needed to vent about. I also felt that I made somewhat of a bad reputation of myself here as a drama queen or just plain stupid...people always seem to like you more when you go away for awhile :)

In truth, it doesn't hurt a bit that you return bearing whale penis photos...and of such high quality, too!

A good whale penis can help move a lot of water under the proverbial bridge.
plthijinx • Jan 20, 2005 9:36 pm
that thing looks more like a graboid from the movie Tremors!
Trilby • Jan 22, 2005 4:38 pm
My son wanted to know what that thing was hanging off the whale, [quote/ "Ew! Gross! What's that?"/ unquote] and I told him. His reply?
"Again with the whale penis!"

staceyv • Jan 23, 2005 10:03 am
I think Arsen and I could be the next White Stripes...If only we actually sounded good.
staceyv • Jan 23, 2005 10:04 am
a few more..
staceyv • Jan 23, 2005 10:05 am
last one!
busterb • Jan 23, 2005 11:34 am
Hell of a crowd? :-)
staceyv • Jan 23, 2005 7:42 pm
Yeah, the crowd wasn't that great..There were maybe 20 people there, but that means you get to go up and sing more!!:)
Elspode • Jan 23, 2005 7:46 pm
Okay, but how many people were there when you guys started?

Kidding! I'm KIDDING! :D
busterb • Jan 24, 2005 8:27 am
Where's the .wav file posted? We need to have a sample
Beestie • Jan 24, 2005 9:05 am
I think you need to buy Arsen a new sweater for his birthday :)
staceyv • Jan 24, 2005 1:33 pm
ha! I just realized that he's in the same damn sweater for almost every picture!
He has plenty of sweaters, he just grabs the first one he finds in his dresser. Since he wore this one first, he washed it, put it back on top, grabbed for a sweater, wore this one, washed it, put it back on top of the pile...I guess what I need to do is put a different sweater on the top of the pile for him to grab. men....

I do have a few karaoke recordings, but I have no idea how to share them. If you can give me step by step instructions on how to do it, I will. He converted the ones we saved in the computer to Mp3, if that helps.

Move over NBN, this could end up being a "paying gig"

:D
footfootfoot • Jan 26, 2005 9:41 pm
BTW, does anyone remember the video of the dead whale that was blown to large chucks (not smithereens, as hoped) in CA several years ago?

Priceless. The file was about 10megs. I remember the newscaster shouting something like oh shit when the dead whale parts rained down.
xoxoxoBruce • Jan 26, 2005 10:35 pm
I remember a particularly large chunk coming down on a Caddy convertible. :eek2:
