what is a gmail invite?
SteveDallas • Jan 15, 2005 3:05 pm
Gmail is an email service from Google. They are currently in a preview/beta testing/whatever period so you can only signup if you're invited. The main attraction seems to be that you have 1GB of email space, which is more than is available at most free sites. When they first rolled it out invites were in hot demand, but I gather it's much easier to get one now.

I've been waiting for gmail 6 months and never got the chance, juggling 3 email accounts is no fun anymore. please send me an invite to do@samerica.com or claudio@desisa.net

Gmail is the better of the three I have, including earthlink and yahoo.

I'm kinda curious, too. I like my gmail, it is the easiest one to use for me.

gmail rocks! I use google's hosted mail for my domain, so all of my email runs through their spam filters. The one big hassle was the lack of IMAP, but now that they have that, it's just about perfect.

What don't you like about it?

I'm pleased that I got in on the Gmail bandwagon early enough that I was able to get my own name as my e-mail address. I'm pretty sure it was Undertoad who invited me through an exchange of invites here on the Cellar.

I subsequently gave an invite to my MIL and found it amusing that she was then giving invites to college kid cow orkers who were begging her for them. Like getting into a trendy nightclub.

"whorish" = promiscuous, i.e. not hard to hook up with, i.e. you don't need an invite, as you did in 2004, hence "gmail is so whorish now"

You haven't heard of our standard protocol: Thread Continuity Preservation/Idiot Prevention, or TCP/IP?
SteveDallas • Jul 11, 2008 3:13 pm
No, never heard of it.

I thought TCP/IP was that new drug all the kids are doing now at their "raves." Damn teenagers.
