Texas Hold'em

i was just curious to see how many, if any, dwellers played on partypoker.com or a similar site......
SteveDallas • Dec 17, 2004 10:13 pm
Yeah, I do. I'm currently playing the $0.50/$1.00 limit game at Empire, after starting with $25 and working my way up through the smaller micro-limits at other sites.

I do, but I prefer stud poker. I just can't stand Hold'em. What annoys me is that it is the only variety of poker on Yahoo games.

I play at the play money tables. Playing for real money requires me to actually look people in the eye.

Besides, I know playing online poker for real money is illegal, probably a felony.

Rho plays for fun on one of the sites out there...not sure which one.

I just lost $4 in nickel-dime-quarter dealer-calls poker.

I play on ultimatebet.com, partypoker.com and paradisepoker.com

paradise was the first one i started with, but the freeroll tourneys at UB and partypoker are cooler. plus, annie duke and antonio the magic guy from WPT have tables at UB. I play $4-8 and lower only, and only give myself $150 or so every few months to play with. Can't believe the amount of money people are putting up at those sites.

Rich, you should go to ultimatebet.com or paradisepoker.com. They both have play money 7-card stud.

I used to play on empirepoker but I play now on partypoker. There always seems to be room at the play money tables.

yeah, i limit myself to $50 a month. i usually will play the $5/1 tournaments. every now and then i'll go to a $25 max buy-in table.

the amount of $$ some people play is outrageous! i'll go watch some of those high dollar tables and watch people win pots that would equal a month or two of my salary! that's just crazy!

Ah I'm on Paradise Poker now. I like the sound effects better on this site (and the graphics too).

Next up: ultimatebet.com
:D

UB is my favorite for the software but the games are very tight compared to many other sites.

Paradise has a black smoke video effect that wipes your chips out when you bust out of a tournament!! Overall a good site. I spent a lot of time there working up through the .10/.20 and .25/.50 limits (they're the only one of the biggest sites that offers .10/.20).

I'm currently having a bit of trouble adjusting to the extremely wild play at Party/Empire, but it's getting there.

So, anybody up for a friendly Cellar poker game at one of the play money tables?

On which site?
SteveDallas • Jan 8, 2005 10:01 pm
I'm flexible--wherever we can get a crowd together.
Undertoad • Jan 9, 2005 7:33 am
I'd be in for that
SteveDallas • Jan 9, 2005 6:53 pm
OK. Everybody PM me if you want to do it and indicate which poker sites you'd prefer to play at. I'll try to come up with a consensus and propose a couple of dates.
wolf • Jan 9, 2005 8:52 pm
I have to learn how to play first ...
SteveDallas • Jan 9, 2005 9:31 pm
Oh, it's OK.... I'll teach you. We might want to do that at the real money tables though......... :yelgreedy :biggrinha
BrianR • Jan 10, 2005 6:39 pm

You can check out this description of the rules and the accompanying list of hand rankings.
plthijinx • Jan 12, 2005 10:01 pm
i'm all for playing. esp. the free money tables, i busted out the other night and went all in on a full house and the sunuvabiatch had 4 of a kind. :(
SteveDallas • Jan 12, 2005 10:31 pm
Yeah, it happens. One of my biggest single-hand losses was when I had a full house and the other person pulled a straight flush with a miracle card on the river/

I only have 2 volunteers for the poker game... if anybody else is interested PM me!! Beginners welcome, we'll be nice.
plthijinx • Jan 12, 2005 10:44 pm
yeah, we promise! :D

p.s. - steve, i'm in.
wolf • Jan 12, 2005 11:09 pm
I was playing on Yahoo Games the other day at work and somehow accidentally won money and ended up ahead ...

I have a hard time with the whole betting logic part.
plthijinx • Jan 12, 2005 11:26 pm
watch how other people bet. if they fold alot and when they finally stay in on a hand and bet strong, try and figure out what it is they're holding in their hands. pair? suited? high off suit? you can only improve with practice. in the play money section of PP or even on sites like pogo.com, people are a little looser with their "money" but when you play with real money, it's easier to learn, albeit a little more painful on the pocket book  :3_eyes:
SteveDallas • Jan 13, 2005 9:59 am
In a nutshell, you bet money when the amount you stand to win is larger than your odds of winning. So if you're a 3:1 underdog and you have to bet $1 to stay in a $5 pot, it's a good bet. If the pot is only $2 then it's not.

Needless to say determining what your odds of winning are is an inexact science (it depends not only on your cards and the cards on the board, but also on what cards you think the other players are likely to have and how many players are left to act).
