Are Redheads Better?
I've recently become a redhead and have notice a 50% increase in Male Attention since changing. Anyone have a preference or similar story? (LJ excepting) :ivy:
Love as in "want to have sex with", or love as in "I've a lot of relatives with red hair and I love them in a platonic way."
:doit:-----my favorite smilie...!
Just take a wild guess. :luv:

Why not post a before and after picture so we can judge.
BTW Lauren Holly as a redhead and a blonde

I would if I were savvy (ask wolf and she, between gales and/or peals of laughter, will tell you) and had some way to scan, which I've no idea how to do--my printer (came with my awesome emachine! isn't even hooked up--am without a man and without any 'puter savvy. sorry! if could get it hooked up and knew what I was doing I would definitely post a pic! THEN i would be able to host a hoe-down!! ;)
All I'm gonna say to that is, if you did have a man, you might STILL not have any computer savvy available!
(There's always snail mail.)
Hmmm...I generally prefer dark hair, but I could go for a redhead.
Mrs. Elspode is what I like to refer to as a "redhead by choice" (or what she refers to as "the rug not matching the curtains, which is actually much funnier). I am the person who dyes her hair, and by golly, I love it! I've always been a major redhead fan, in fact. Also, there seem to be a lot of witches who are either redheads by nature or choice, so that works out well!
Yeah, guys like redheads, Bri. Let us know when it pays off? :)
OK!! Hoping it willl pay off by, like, this coming weekend!!
For the record, redheads are my kryptonite, too. Have been since I started paying attention to such things (around age 12). There's no logic, there's no explanation, they just really blow my mind.
Gentlemen may prefer blondes, but Real Guys Like Redheads
I tried the redhead thing for a while, and it was great fun! People (men) did treat me differently as a redhead. Complete strangers would walk up to me on the street and start talking about redheads. Here's a little redhead joke:
The mating call of the blond: "Hi, I'm blond!"
The mating call of the brunette: "Have all the blonds left yet?"
The mating call of the redhead: "Next!" ;)
So.......is the prejudice against redheads just an English thang? Being a redheaded child is up there with eczema, acne and smelling of wee when it comes to bullying in an English school
In fact I had a friend a few years ago who was ....well racist, not to put too fine a point on it. He used to say "I'd shag a black bird before I'd shag a ginger " .....since he was living on and off with a half Jamaican lass at the time, I took him at his word.
I think red can look amazing, depending on the shade. Full on ginger though looks better on a woman :P

I suspect it is more English than American. I remember a red haired girl in my first or second grade class who got a lot of bullying, but it was on account of the fact that she was the tallest child in the class, not so much her red hair. She probably got the last laugh on us all and grew up to be a gorgeous red head with legs that wouldn't stop and men fainting in her path. ;) Here in the States, I'd say that red heads are considered pretty sexy and intriguing.
there are different types of "'red" too. flaming red? not so attractive. a deep red with darker skin... mmm, lookout!
there are different types of "'red" too. flaming red? not so attractive.
I strongly disagree.

The only red I don't like is the "Clown Orange"--but those sexy clown feet--Mmmmm! :heartpump:
Really turns a gal on!
you sick, sick fuck.
LJ created that, not me...though I
am quite attractive, IMHO. :)
If you see a real (rug match) redhead, that has no freckles and pink areolae, tell her I'd like to buy her an automobile.
oh yeah xoB, a red head with no freckles.....
I'll have what you're having :)
(I'm a chestnuty auburn with a dusting of freckles....oh hell, make that more like a blizzard - and i'm not telling you the rest *G*)
Red heads & rednecks go well together, long as you know who has the gun.
Let me let you guys in on the horrible side effects that accompany red hair.
I have red hair.
I'm male.
Redhead females are insanely attractive, in my eyes.
But, the caveat. You know what people think when they see a man and woman with red hair kiss?
"Wow, that guy is KISSING HIS SISTER."
This is my curse.
Ah, my son shall no doubt inherit this curse! He's one of those redheads with 1,000 freckles and blue eyes. When I was pregnant with him his father sealed Danny's fate by looking at me and proclaiming, "This kid better not have red hair!" a virtual guarantee of red-headedness.
Oh I love these deep philosophical discussions. I'm a brunette. Does this make me more or less attractive than a blond? What if I had short hair? Would this affect my overall attractiveness or should I consider growing it even longer? Should I get an all-over dye or highlights? Lets compare and contrast the merits of lowlights versus slices. And that's my thinking done for today. My brain hurts.
CW, now you're skewing this into a discussion of what makes a woman beautiful, and, as we all know, physical appearance is only a smallish percentage of that whole concept.
Hmm. Don't know if my sarcasm was picked up on. Of course appearance maketh the woman not. I just found it funny that there was a thread about hair colour in the philosophy section. Next there'll be topics on the morality of lipstick and logical improbability of stockings.
Stockings are probable, it's pantyhose that's improbable.
I'm not too picky about hair colour. I'm kind of thinking that I would like to date a blonde this time around, but as long as she has a sparkling laugh and eyes I could get lost in, I'll be happy. I have a friend obsessed with redheads and one obsessed with blondes, and I've seen them both rebuff girls obviously interested in them because their hair was the "wrong colour". Needless to say, they're both single, and probably will be for the forseeable future. Well, they will, if there's any justice in this world. :D
Tell them to act like arrogant pricks and treat women like objects, then they'll have babes dangling off them.

I have found myself in the path of a few redheads in my day, probably more than most. In fact, I married one.
She would like to point out that about 2% of the Earth's population have red hair... The country with the highest number is Scotland with 13 percent, followed closely by Ireland at 10 percent. Value in scarcity, eh?
Of course, the question this thread posed is whether redheads are better. Yes, they are. But is the hair color the cause, or the effect? There's your philosophy question.
Tell them to act like arrogant pricks and treat women like objects, then they'll have babes dangling off them.

Just a tad. Just as some men are bastards, some women are bitches. Some women will run right past the nice guys for the bastards. This does not mean that ALL men are bastards, nor does it mean nice guys finish last. Some men will run right past the nice girls for the bitches. This does not mean ALL women are bitches, nor does it mean nice girls can't get a date. Some people seem compelled to run into brick walls. This is not the fault of the bricks if people refuse to go through the door that's standing wide open. Just a thought...
I'm surrounded by 'em...One of my best friends, my husband, daughter, boss and spouse, and 1 of their 2 sons are all natural red heads. All more toward the orange/strawberry blonde side than auburny. Tho as my girl gets older, the top is getting darker and the underneath where the hair was rubbed off as an infant is getting a lot more blonde. Odd. I was hoping that if she was a girl it would be red b/c my hair is a shitty dishwater blonde color, blech. My hubby was the first to introduce me to the phrase "curtains match the carpet" and i still snort every time i hear it. The new smilies rock!
as for do they get more attention, my bf does get a lot more than me, but i'm sure it's the huge difference in cleavage that does it :eyebrow:
Ah, yes. The philosophical pondering of cleavage. It is true that your boobs have more power when they collide.
It is true that your boobs have more power when they collide.
I believe that's called "critical mass."
I actually got into a discussion on this with a friend last night. Over the course of things, we realized that redheads are very binary: they're either really really attractive, or really really not, when you stop to think about it. There's no grey area or room for interpretation.
Me personally, I'm a sucker for the colleens (dark red hair, green eyes). Not to discriminate against the brunettes or ravenhairs, dark hair period does it for me. But dark red, that's where it's at.
too many of my ex's have been redheads... geez around 85%... so where as I have been very 'lucky' in this department. wow.. uh.. after the last one I think I need to take a bit of a break from them... although...
oh.. on a side note...
I did some digging on the whole 'redhead' thing (seeing as how I am too curious for my own good) and it seems that although there is a popular thought that redheads 'come from' ireland/scotland that in fact the genetics can be traced back to scandanvia/norway.. just some food for thought
Ethnic diversity circa 1000 A.D.
IIRC, the derogatory meaning for "red-headed child" (combined with the more obvious "stepchild"), as in "to beat like a red-headed stepchild" came from the habit of the redheaded Viking raiders... passing through... and leaving a crop of redheaded babies nine months behind them. :vikingsmi
kinda like the 'black-irish' after the sinking of the spannish armada... the survivors swam to shore and well... bred with the locals and the next thing you know! if you can't beat them.. join them I guess
I've recently become a redhead and have notice a 50% increase in Male Attention since changing. Anyone have a preference or similar story? (LJ excepting) :ivy:
what!? i'm excluded from this thread? or you just dont want to know if men find me more atractive as a red head?
i never kiss and tell.
the thing with real red heads is that there is seldom an average looking red head. they're either knocked out gorgeous or painfully ugly.
but, sometimes even the ugly ones are sexy.
I like jinx as a red head.....she does the auburn thing. one day, she's gonna do hot pink.......that's sexy on a whole 'nother level. ....mmmmmmmmmm, dirty.
Ok, LJ--I'll bite. DO men find you more attractive as a redhead? I think jinx is very pretty anyway but hot pink would be damn cool.
I had to do hot pink hair for a play once. It was awesome. A ton of people asked me about it though, so it's not a good idea if you don't like talking to strangers.
Ooh, hair color stories!!
I am naturally brown-haired...it isn't that nice dark brown, either, it is a boring sort of medium mousy brown. Funny, they don't make dyes in mousy brown. Anyway, I have been redhead, both strawberry and auburn, bleach blond, streaky blond, dark brown, and now black. I think I have had my hair black for about a year and a half now. My experiences wearing these colors has been interesting. When I was blond, I got hit on, practically constantly. But, I was never taken seriously. People didn't listen to things I had to say. When I was a redhead, I suppose I got hit on, but I don't remember. As a dark brunette I rarely got hit on, but I remember my blond friends would always get hit on before me (which is completely fine by me because most men that hit on them were not worth knowing). With black hair, I think most people look at me and think I have some sort of latent goth thing going on. Some guys think I am this creepy weird person or "interesting". It's kind of fun to see how perceptions of me change as my appearance changes.
Exactly, case! I've been every color, too, with various streaky things going on, etc. I think it's very interesting how people react differently to different hair colors/styles. I'm a natural mouse brown which is a color that just begs to be toyed with!
If it is obvious that your hair is dyed (dark hair and pale skin, roots showing, etc.) then people know that you chose to be that color. People are then reacting to your choice as well as your color.
I suspect this is what people are reacting to with case. Very few people have naturally true-black hair.
One of the strangest things I have ever seen was a young girl with long black hair and about one inch of bright blonde re-growth coming in!
Not only that dar, but they might even treat you like the stereotype, expecting that's part of what you were shooting for with the dye job!
Part of the reason for double-blind testing...
Damn. I just can't formulate a good one-liner about double-blind testing of hair color...
I think all the male attention is your attitude. Do you feel more attractive? When a woman looks like she's feeling hot it doesn't seem to matter what color of hair she has. Like when you get a haircut and no one notices, but they do notice something is different about you.....Are you simply noticing what was there all along? I often don't notice male attention (my friends say so) but if I were to change my appearance and began to look for reactions I might see an increase in attention.(obviously) I'm not going to make a comment about my hair color or the fact that this is in the Philosophy category, but I will say attractive is not a hair color.
(not directed at anyone here i am having conversational flashbacks)
:D And sorry guys, you all tell me to dye it but I like it how it is so your attraction to me can keep suffering. No big deal! If you are liking the women on the basis of hair color you are not going to be my type anyway........ :greenface

Native Americans come close. My Dad was 1/4 Cherokee and had VERY dark brown hair (might as well have been black), and everyone who met him commented on his "black" eyes which were actually a very deep brown. I have some pictures of him when he was a young man, and the girls must have been fainting in his tracks. I wish I'd inherited his coloring, but, alas, I take more after my Swiss Mom.
I hear you, flip, but I do not agree. Men--On the AVERAGE--don't want grey hairs. And that is a response to your third to last sentance, last post. Men want women with vibrant hair color whether it be brown, red, blonde or black. Waning hair color is a halmark of decreasing libido--not my rule, Nature's rule.

I wasn't referring to grey hair because I don't have any. :p I can see how you would assume that meaning though. I have a friend with grey hair though and she never seems to be lacking any male attention. :D
But the topic was about you........are you sure you are not just being more aware? :eyebrow:

Actually, it is surprising how many people can't tell the difference between natural and dyed hair color. I have had a few people just assume this is my natural color (when I was blond, too). It's kind of embarassing to have to tell them I dye it at that point.
I've been a red-head for over 10 years and can't imagine not. The first few times someone referred to me as a red-head, I was taken aback. As in, who me? But I love having red hair. There's just something about it that gives a person a little "savoir faire". It's hard to describe unless you've been there...
:rainfro: Today, i am getting my hair dyed.
Red...hmmmm....not my color.
Or is it??? :handball:
Ok, LJ--I'll bite. DO men find you more attractive as a redhead? I think jinx is very pretty anyway but hot pink would be damn cool.
Thank you Brianna, that's a really nice thing to say.
A few years ago I would have done hot pink without a second thought, but I think I've passed the age where I can get away with it. I don't want to look like a washed up stripper... I haven't done any dyeing in a couple years, although I still have some henna remnants on the ends I think.
I could definitely go for a change... this thread really has me thinking...
I would love to see before and after shots if you do!!
I don't want to look like a washed up stripper...
Maybe a stripper but faaaar from washed up. :)

Posted by the person who gave me a coffee mug which says "I dye my hair so often that my driver's license has a color wheel!" I guess I DO like to experiment! :D
Oh come on. Experiment? By your own admission you just can't remember what you asked them to use on you last time ...

I think I'll try to avoid the stripper look altogther, but thank you. :D

Them, who? Usually, a glance in the mirror will remind me of which one of Ms. Clairol's delightful spectrum of shades I chose this week.! :D Actually, I do remember that I have been trying for a lighter ash sort of shade. Unfortunately, my hair doesn't want to co-operate, so I've had lots of fun being every hair color except the one I want.

Since you brought it up, I think I did mention once that I liked your hair red the best..........this is not saying that redheads are "better" this just means I like it the best on you........Remember my red hair incident? Someone wrote a song called "pink." :D

Oh, my! I had completely forgotten that until just now! Didn't you go out at 2:00 or 3:00am in a desperate attempt to become un-pink? How many times DID you re-do your hair that night? :D
You have to admit....I wasn't bad in flamingo pink....slightly suitable in a punk rock teenage riot sort of way.....Hahaha.
4 times.........then I ran out of cash.

Yeah, you would have been a hit in Florida! I should have set you out as a lawn decoration!
We would have had better luck with you as a garden gnome. (as comatose as you were) Not only that, I could of convinced you of this great idea.
Now sit, don't move, unless you see the birds............caw<caw<

Oh my gawd! :D (*rolls around on floor laughing*). The thing is you're right! I can see myself now, all wrapped up in blankets patiently sitting out amongst the dead plants in the winter looking for little black spots up in the sky. The fresh air probably would have done wonders for me, and I'd have finally caught on to the joke and come back inside to beat you up!
*ahem*--as of last night--Redheads are better.
Are you....sure??

not anymore.
Gee, brief fling or what? A man who can't appreciate a redhead isn't worth appreciating in my book! This whole thread has got me to thinking of going back to red myself. It was a blast being AUBURN!
Well, I meant "not anymore" after seeing ol' Carrot-top up there. He's such a weird guy. He looks like the corporate icon for Wendy's restaurants.
Go auburn. It'll do ya good.
That's insulting to Wendy's.
It's fun to mock Carrotop, but the guy has milked it to become rich and famous while I have a boring office job.
Once I felt the same way about Yahoo Serious.
It's fun to mock Carrotop, but the guy has milked it to become rich and famous while I have a boring office job.
have you seen that guys lately? he looks like he's hitting the juice.
I have found reheaded women to either be beautiful or homely. I know there must be some that fit somewhere in between. However, this has been my findings. You know the older I get the better looking all women look to me.........
[snip] ... You know the older I get the better looking all women look to me.........
What I say is that as I get older there is more scenery to look at. When in my teens I'd only look at guys a few years older than me and none younger. Now I'll drool at a well-presented guy be he 16 or 66!

Hmmm, I like the drooling part!! I guess 46 would fit well in those standards. At least the 6 is well presented..... :)
The one thing I've noticed about NATURAL redheads is they are either REALLY goodlooking, or REALLY ugly. There doesn't seem to be an average looking redhead.
While in high school i had strawberry blonde hair, and i am quite fair. LOVED it! But i could never go a gingery colour, i dont think that is very attractive. now i have blonde/ light brownm, Its much better for me professionally. But if its done right, and its not too contrsting with skin tone, red hair is definately a knock out!!
i am a redheaded woman and the one thing that constantly offfends me is when people ask if my you-know-what is red.
if i wanted them to know i would have showed them!@
Hey jacklyn, thanks for bumping this old thread; I missed it the first time around.
That seems to be a popular question. I photoshopped a wreath on my head for a silly holiday picture for this forum (in my female role). Someone asked me if my drapes matched the carpet. But, I welcome that kind of fun on a forum. In person, it must be irritating after a while.
The only redhead ex-gf of mine was a disaster. During sex, she would always hook her feet around my ankles to control the rhythm. That was highly annoying. She was redhead-from-birth.
I can't say any particular haircolor is best. Sexy is mostly self confidence.
During sex, she would always hook her feet around my ankles to control the rhythm
Cant quite get a mental picture of how this was done, but I intend to try it and see if it is indeed annoying.

You should take it as a compliment. Although it's a rather crude way, they're asking, as I'm sure you know, if you color your hair.
Well, I'm assuming that you don't color your hair. But either way, it seems to me, if they're asking, it means your hair at least looks natural. There is way to many redheads out there that don't have to be asked.
Personally, I would never ask if the carpet matches the drapes..... I'd ask if the nipples are pink? :haha:
My wife is a redhead and I'm way happy about it!
In the past, insurance companies had found that red cars were involved in more accidents that any other color cars. It is believed that was due to the drivers of red cars wanting to go faster (with correspondingly less caution). Colors have been demonstrated to have psychological effects. Perhaps men expect that a physical relationship with redheaded women will progress faster than with other women. It could happen!
i'm with rkzenrage- my wife's a redhead, and i am VERY glad about it. redheads are WONDERFUL !!!!!
Carbonated_Brains: I'm a readhead and I dated one for a year and I never got that reaction, where do you live? Arkansas?
90% of the girls that floor me are redheads.
i'm with rkzenrage- my wife's a redhead, and i am VERY glad about it. redheads are WONDERFUL !!!!!
Mine is a redhead and a Scorpio... I had not thought it all the way through... but am still very happy about it!:D :D
Are redheads better in general, or better at certain things? I don't think having a certain haircolor makes you better at anything...I've had many different hair colors. Being a blonde doesn't mean I have more fun...being a brunette still makes me the same person, only with a different color of hair..and hey, i'm still great in bed, if that's where this topic is at.
I don't think hair-color has anything specific to do with anything, but you have to look at the genetic traits of those women who commonly had red hair, where they came from and what traits were prized, & therefore passed on as dominant.
I, for one, likes me on hot tempered, tough, Viking/Celtic bitch who can take it and give it back in kind while laughing about it the whole time... later she screws you... not the other way around.
But, that is just me... don't listen to me... I'm a freak.
Celtic Worrior Women... can't read... must. Not. Get. Hot.

rkzenrage has stated it perfectly.

its really not whether anyone's haircolor makes them better at certain things- its the visual, as well as what rkzenrage stated above.
nothing like a red bush, and light skin, and sometimes the freckles that go with redheads. very huge turn-on.
however, kinky, its definitely not the only turn-on. so many women have wonderful characteristics, physical and otherwise. i cannot picture what you look like or what color hair you may have, but i can imagine you are a very sexy and wonderful woman (and i don't say that as a come-on. i am absolutley happily married.)
You guys are gonna have to stop talking like that or I'm gonna' need some Me Time.
nothing like a red bush, and light skin, and sometimes the freckles
er...i'll be back in a bit...
You are not a redhead if you dyed your hair; sorry.
You are not a redhead if you dyed your hair; sorry.
I can't believe this thread is still going. Good for it.
I think bottle red-heads DO count. Red is red, baby.
I was red when I started this thread--now, i'm more of an auburn with blonde bangs. I miss the red, though.

I gotcha, and I getcha. No worries. I do have a picture on my profile, however it doesn't actually show my hair. But, for the record, I'm a brunette. And at the moment I am sporting a bronzed body...dark hair, dark skin, blueish green (light) eyes...apparently that's a huge turn on to some. Maybe they just aren't part of the cellar community?
To each his own, you know...
and as far as wonderful...maybe? and maybe not? I have my moments. : )
Sorry, Brianna, but being a Red Head is so much more than the color of the hair, and as a male Red Head, I can tell you there is a double standard when it comes to people's reactions. As a child, I was constantly teased for my red hair, and even today I don't think women prefer Red Headed men. That said, being a Red Head is related to my Irish roots (sorry for the pun). The other aspect of being a REAL Red Head is having fair skin (white) that burns rather than tans. Furthermore, a REAL Red Head stands out, especially if she's a woman, with freckles, fair skin, and blue eyes (most of the time). I can't stand women who dye their hair; it says something about their character. Be real. Don't support the cosmetics industry. Be good to your natural hair, which I'm sure is beautiful because it's yours.
My son is a red head with freckles and blue eyes and he is quite the ladies man.
Why did I bother to answer that?
I dunno. Why did you? Did you think you were just wasting your breath? I don't know very many red-heads...I just know about the stigma that follows. Teach me!
If you see a real (rug match) redhead, that has no freckles and pink areolae, tell her I'd like to buy her an automobile.
Haha, that would be me.. :o
Welcome amelia!
As seen in the RFN thread a while back, I've experimented with red before, it's fun...my natural hair is brownish redish blondish, but sometimes looks black in low light. It's got alot of red throughout it naturally, and both times that I've dyed it red were more about changes in my life which I marked by changing my appearance...sort of like a temporary tatoo I guess. :)
(I soooo want to do it pink, or at least red with pink hilites but I'm a chicken)
I did a nice dark fuschia for a short time in college, Razz. From the pictures you've posted, I think it would work well with your complexion. Sticking with the darker pinks is the key though. But would your job object?
That's the part I worry about actually, I know we've got tons of people with tattoos, face piercings are supposed to be taken out during work hours, but I'm not sure of the policy on hair color...hmm...
You can rest assured that the moment I'm back in college, I'll be doing some kind of pink for certain.
Don't you work in a hardware store? Surely they're not that strict. Do you think they'd object to all the colours I have in my hair if I worked there? I have pink. ;)
Another thing to consider is customer reaction...whether or not I'm willing to hear the same comment about it 50 times a day...not because I'll be upset if they don't like it...but because it gets hard to give that fake customer service grin and laugh at whatever I'm going to hear 50 people a day say about it.
FYI old men hate black or blue nailpolish...but they loooove the glitter
I must not be old enough.. I don't want to see glitter anywhere except the school art projects of < 8yo kids. (I could do without the black nail polish... blue might be OK depending on the shade etc.)
(P.S. Get the hell off of my yard.)
Razz, I think you should do some of it dark pink. It would look great on you! I can relate to the changing haircolor coinciding with a new phase of something. I do the same thing. I dyed mine all different colors until about 5 years ago, when I started dying it black all the time. I have finally grown most of the black out and cut it short. Trying to decide if I should dye it aqua/greenish blue? I am thinking it might freak out some of the yuppy parents around here, which would be an added bonus. Perhaps we could have a hair dye thread?
Mmmm, didn't know this one existed. Very nice. I didn't like my hair color for a very long time, because it was so different than most other people I went to school with. But, oh well, it's great now. I have never colored it - so would be scared it would turn some God awful color.
Razz - get you some bright pink highlights girl, would look amazing. And out some glitter as low down as your uniform goes breast wise. The old men won't worry bout your hair.
And Case - go for it! If I had the complexion I'd totally go for far out colour.
No, SD, you're not old enough...the sort of old man I'm talking about is the kind who can barely walk or talk or see and just sort of grunts out his words...(and I meant glittery nail polish :D sorry for the confusion...)
although they do like when I wear glittery tops...
Now you've all got me wanting to dye it pink again :P so we'll see how it goes.

So WTF are they doing buying hardware?
They're not buying hardware, they're just trying to perve on Razz in her glittery top. The glitter helps their failing eyes make out the shape, you see.
the thing about redheads - the natural ones anyway - is that they are either drop-dead gorgeous or I'd-rather-fuck-my-mother fugly. There's no in-between.
After all the comments of either red-heads are "butt ugly" or "really hot" I can only surmise where I fit in.

feeling hot hot hot!
Although maybe we should ask Spode for a casting vote...?
