Reeve went into cardiac arrest Saturday while at his Pound Ridge home, then fell into a coma and died Sunday at a hospital surrounded by his family, his publicist said. He was 52.
In the last week Reeve had developed a serious systemic infection from a pressure wound, a common complication for people living with paralysis. He entered the hospital Saturday.
Sigh...well there goes another of my childhood favorites. I grew up on his Superman movies.
Terribly sad. I really thought he might end up being one of those to benefit from stem cell research
I heard about this while driving home from work at 630 am this morning and my jaw dropped. I couldn't believe it! He was so strong, so brave! My first thought was that, at last, Superman was flying once again.
If anyone could've made it--it was Christopher Reeve. God Bless him.
Stem cell research is something that offered, I believe, false, although necessary hope to spinal cord injury patients.
Although anyone's passing is sad, his in this instance, I believe is moreso a blessing.

I don't believe it is false so much as long-term. The irony is that G.W. and Laura are 'saddened' by his passing even while G.W. severely restricted the avenue of research which might have provided a cure for his condition, albeit probably not in his lifetime.
Unfortunately, long term hope is false hope for many who could use the eventual fruits of stem cell research. But the people of today have to fight for the people of tomorrow.
