Laziness is pro-survival. It has the dual advantage of helping one avoid unnecessary work, and driving one to invent devices to reduce necessary work.

Actually, in this case, it sounds like a sign of intelligence. When the monkey's were no longer able to accurately judge the timing of the reward, they became work-a-holics. Stupidity put them into overdrive.

That's almost what it's like around my office. And the ones in charge are monkeys with slightly bigger braincases, only instead of more brains there's only air.

Are you calling me a commie, SM? I resemble that accusation, but only in months that end with "r." The rest of the time I'm mostly a liberal anarchist. Actually, given the right mind altering drugs to a massive enough segment of the population, any political system would work. They're all great in theory, but when the rubber hits the road, they all begin to show signs of wear sooner or later even if the trains do arrive on time. ;)
