TERESA TELLS REPORTER TO 'SHOVE IT'

Teresa Heinz Kerry, wife of Democratic nominee John Kerry, told a reporter to 'shove it' on Sunday evening -- immediately after giving a speech calling for a more civil tone in politics.
VIDEO...
Speaking to the Pennsylvanian delegation at the statehouse in Boston, Heinz Kerry delivered an impassioned plea against hate politics:

"We need to turn back some of the creeping, un-Pennsylvanian and sometimes un-American traits that are coming into some of our politics."

"My prayers for you, for me, for the country, for the world, are that we keep this at a high level, with dignity, with respect and with a great idealism and courage that took our forefathers to build this great nation."

According to multiple sources who attended the event, Heinz Kerry upon finishing the speech pushed her way through the Secret Service to get to Pittsburgh Tribune Review reporter, Colin McNickle. Upon getting to Mcnickle, Heinz Kerry asks, 'Are you from the Tribune Review' Mcnickle says, 'Yes, I am.'

At this point and in an irritated fashion Heinz Kerry says, 'Of course, understandable. You said something I didnt say. Now Shove it!'

Tape of the incident is being edited to air on Pittsburgh's WTAE-TV, and, according to a media source, ABC NEWS is set to run with it thereafter.

A witness of the incident said reporters were "stunned" by Heinz Kerry's outburst, especially in light of the speech she had just given.

I know I'm repeating myself ... but given that she is neither Pennsylvanian nor American, how can she judge what's "Un" either of those ... the tiff with the reporter arose because she couldn't explain what she meant.
Happy Monkey • Jul 26, 2004 2:28 pm
She is an American.
wolf • Jul 26, 2004 2:32 pm
Naturalized, isn't she? Raised and educated entirely outside the borders of this country.
Happy Monkey • Jul 26, 2004 2:34 pm
She was naturalized before I was born, so I think it counts.
jaguar • Jul 26, 2004 2:37 pm
i saw this on TV, the way she said it and the fact she was smiling suggests it was almost a joke, talk about non-event.
xoxoxoBruce • Jul 26, 2004 3:33 pm
Thousands of reporters standing around waiting for anything usually results in some non-events being widely reported. :(
lookout123 • Jul 26, 2004 7:54 pm
it wasn't that big of a deal, really. i just thought it was funny because she seems to be sort of a wild card. but i did see the video and didn't look like a joke.

Huh. I'm listening to her speech, and apparently she actually is Pennsylvanian, too. She called Pennsylvania her home state. Her first husband was from Pittsburgh, and he's the one who brought her to the US, so she's as Pennsylvanian as she is American.
wolf • Jul 28, 2004 2:44 am
Precisely my point.
Happy Monkey • Jul 28, 2004 7:23 am
Your point is that naturalization doesn't count?
Undertoad • Jul 28, 2004 8:26 am
I watched her speech and she was excellent. I trust her to understand what "American" means.
Griff • Jul 28, 2004 8:28 am
She's going to be a lot more entertaining than Laura.. or either of the Johns for that matter.

I watched the speech too, I liked her, she had the balls not to apologize for the heinous crime of telling a reporter to shove it, good on her. It's a good reflection on a guy that he likes strong-willed women and that he's willing to let her speak her mind.

No shit?

And why is Jackson opening his hole anyway?
Happy Monkey • Jul 28, 2004 9:51 am
Jackson doesn't need a reason.

Her family is Portuguese, and was living in Mozambique when she was born.

2. Because.

jackson is a publicity hungry leach and there were cameras present. that is why jackson opened his hole.

I didn't see Obama but Pete says the keynote rocked. My Hillary lovin ma in law actually called Hils speech shrill. Teresa is a nice change from Hillarys constant dissembling. I'm sure I'll be sick of them in four years but Bush lied and thousands died. new sign on the way home
warch • Jul 28, 2004 6:33 pm
I saw Obama. Wow. He was great.
And yes Wolf, he is an American too.
xoxoxoBruce • Jul 28, 2004 7:22 pm
Obama commanded as much presence as Bill Clinton.

You mean she'll be running the country? :haha:
Happy Monkey • Jul 28, 2004 7:30 pm
That's right. If you don't keep strong-willed women from speaking their minds, the next thing you know, they'll be running everything!
xoxoxoBruce • Jul 28, 2004 7:38 pm
Hillary Syndrome!

Nancy Reagan was no wallflower either. Right or wrong, Hillary had the guts to at least try to address the health care crisis. Even if you didn't agree with her ideas, she was brave enough to go where those wimps in Congress wouldn't.
xoxoxoBruce • Aug 9, 2004 12:15 pm
I'll give you that, but theres a reason the wimps didn't go there. The question is WHY would it be political suicide. Rejection by the voters or AMA/Drug company opposition?
