Well. On Friday I follow in ol' Bill's footsteps to trace the paths of this small island. Accompanied by 1 x friend and 1 x van I will negotiate the Moors of Dart, Land of Scot and Sheep of Wales (or possibly not). There will be mass quantities of real ale imbibed and pipes smoked. There may be laughter, tears and frustration; there will most likely be a catastrophe of some kind (van brakes down in remote Highlands village with single burly hungry Scot for company); it will most certainly be fantastic.
I bid you adeiu for one month. I hope you can manage without me. I know it will be hard. Probably the hardest challenge you will ever face in your lives.
But I will be back to tell you all about it (whether you want to hear it or not).
Please now proceed to post woeful messages of distress at my impending absence and wish me well.
I will miss you all.
aww have fun! Sounds like a hell of a way to spend a month. Are you doing it properly and taking a vw van?
No it's a Leyland Daf. (Embarrassed cringe) But it's bigger than a vdub, and less cool, which in a backward retro kind of way makes it much more cool. Plus it has the I-don't-care-if-I-bash-it factor and bigger beds ;)
Pictures! Don't forget pictures!
I don't have a digi cam... but will try and scan some in when I get back (you'll get that photo in the end, LJ!)
We should chip in and buy Cat a cheap 1megapixel cam.

i think we still have our 1.2 MP first digicam in a drawer somewhere...about as good quality as a camera phone.

Wait a minute. She can afford to take off on vacation and travel the "Isles", for a
MONTH, and we should buy her a camera??
well it all depends on the photos really..
Since the internet is loaded with pictures of the scenery, it would depend on the square inches of skin exposed, I suppose.
Well, it's August, not usually a month where one wraps up warm... ;)
Saying that, I am not about to start posting naughty photos of myself on the internet.
No, I'm not.
And just because I've got a month off doesn't mean I'm loaded. I've just been told my company's closing down. Boo hoo yeah whatever, I don't really care, but still, I'm not rich and I can't afford a digicam.
But thanks for the thought UT :)
I've just been told my company's closing down.
So you no longer have to decide whether to quit.
Have fun on the month.
Well not exactly. I have now accepted a job in the new incarnation of my company - as a sub-division of another company. It's all terribly boring and the job will be terribly boring, but at least it's guaranteed income, pay rise and a semi-paid holiday. Think I will use the month off to decide what I really want to do. Although today they offered me a large cash sum on top of my salary not to go away, I turned it down. I must be mad, but I think this trip will do me good mentally, which is worth more than any financial reward. (*takes deep breath - I hope!!) :)
If you are imbibing real ale I can heartily recommend Old Peculiar and Hens Tooth
Yes! And Hobgoblin, and my particular favourite, oh bugger I've forgotten the name, two words... elderflower influence... know the one I mean?! (Sorry I have just recently got into the real ale ting... still quite excited about it)
PS. We will be going through ol' York - any places you recommend?
And whereabouts in the land of Scot are you headed? There are such things as internet cafes throughout GB now, dear, and you can keep in touch with the dwellars as much as you like (especially if it rains!)
