i was just reading an old thread when i found myself rolling on the floor laughing my ass off. someone accused bruce of being a republican. so even though most of us kind of know where the others stand, i think we should make it easy for all newbies. everyone give us your political affiliation and, if you want, a few words about your philosophy. (this doesn't need to be a 15page tw-style manifesto asking for the smoking gun.)
Why put yourself in a convenient box for others?
Shouldn't we be able to post political thoughts and have them be judged based on their merit? I don't want to have my ideas dismissed or embraced simply because of my party affiliation.
i am an independent. i do lean right on many issues but i refuse to be a member of the D's or R's. i will vote for the individual who i believe will do a better job in areas that i consider to be priorities.
i support some safety nets provided by the government to catch people when they fall, but i am not a supporter of most entitlements. realistic, but firm limits should be enforced.
i do support a true flat tax. i don't mind paying more tax $ than my neighbor, but why should i give away a higher % of my income?
i do support a larger military capable of taking the fight anywhere, anytime, any way necessary.
although i understand the necessity of exporting some jobs, i think it should be a crime to bounce government call center calls to india, or anywhere else for that matter.
i am in support of reform in the insurance and medical industries but oppose a nat'l healthcare plan.
i believe public education is in the toilet and some type of privatization would improve the situation.

why would your thoughts dismissed because of your affiliation? although i disagree on issues with many of the people here i believe that most of us attempt to discuss issues. i think for the most part, cellarites read with an open mind. it's not often that you see someone change their mind, but i also don't see much in the way of ad hominem attacks.
i certainly wouldn't walk down the street screaming my affiliation, but i see no harm in this environment.
I'm a gun owning, authoritarian-anarchist member of the Issue Party.

Nah, it's more along the lines of:
"I wish people had the sense to govern themselves so we wouldn't need a gov't but they don't so there you go."

Be thankful they are not dismissed based on skin color. (perfect example being if someone accuses me right now of "playing the race card").
Anyhoo, like lookout, I am an independant, but I lean to the left (Dems), and GO KERRY 2004!!! :D
Bruce...republican? LMAOOO! That *is* funny as all hell. :haha:
Mostly liberal independent. Last election, I voted Libertarian because I like the ideas they have that would have a chance in hell of passing (personal liberties), but like all parties, it would be a disaster if they took the presidency and both houses. This year, I'm ABB.
I hold my principles tightly, my issues tentatively, and my party in disdain.

I was never into politics much until the last few years, when I began to realize (and later see) what a truly poor U.S. President can do at the helm. I wouldn't go so far as to affiliate myself with a specific political party, because I prefer to vote for the man rather than the party... but for this election, I can firmly say that I absolutely will NOT vote Republican. I'd sooner pound my balls flat with a wooden hammer than have Bush for another four years... particularly since this time around, he won't have to restrain himself at all in anticipation of being re-elected. Scary thought.

 I don't think I'd go that far for any political view.
politics schmolitics
i guess i'm an independant by default, but when i was 18, i registered as a dem. i have apathy. i'll vote for kerry though, cuz, i'd rather let H_P hammer my balls flat with a wooden mallot than see gwb back in the house. On another year, i'd go libertarian, but not this time. im not taking any chances.
i think the whole practice of partisan politics is a cop out, so i resist lumping myself in with any one party. it should be more about individual issues than what color coat you wear. what animal you associate with better, etc....
if there was a "not Bush" choice on the ballot, i'd poke that chad.
Registered? Independent.
Party? You bet
View? Jaded, disgusted, worried, furious, depressed. :(

That was probably me. I made a big mistake (as Sycamore so eloquently pointed out at the time  ). I misunderstood a few responses that Bruce had made to my posts. My deepest apologies to Bruce - I admire your graceful intelligence, and humanity, and would never intentionally offend you.
I consider myself to be a communist republican, working on the next American Revolution. Me and my small but loyal band of Navajo Code talkers along with my strong arm man, Mike the Master of Revolutionary Classical Guitar, have been making guerilla attacks on homeland security forces in Western Colorado and Eastern Utah for years now. I refuse to go along with the pretense that my vote on the national level means anything, but I have great hopes of blackmailing the Colorado Legislature into meeting my growing group of revolutionary banditos' 29 non-negotiable demands. I hate big government and think every American should be the proud owner of an unregistered semi-automatic weapon if not a rocket launcher or two - just as self protection against Big Brother. I think librarians and teachers should be paid the equivalent salaries of major sports players, and sports players should get by on what a librarian is now paid. Anybody who is further interested in my idealogy is welcome to attend the next meeting of our insurgency group at the coming Telluride Blues Festival. Don't worry - we'll find you.;) :band: :rattat:
