Big bear

bluesdave • Jun 25, 2004 2:43 am
This was sent to me today. I am *not* posting the third image
mentioned in the text. If UT says it's OK I'll put it up, but it is
pretty gruesome.

The following (first two) pictures are of a guy who works for the
US Forest Service in Alaska and his trophy bear.

He was out deer hunting last week when a large grizzly bear
charged him from about 50 yards away.

The guy unloaded his 7mm mag semi-automatic rifle into the bear
and it dropped a few feet from him.

The big bear was still alive so he reloaded and shot it several
times in the head.

The bear was just over one thousand six hundred pounds.

It stood 12' 6" high at the shoulder, 14' to the top of his head.

It's the largest grizzly bear ever recorded in the world.

Of course, the Alaska Fish and Wildlife Commission did not let him
keep it as a trophy, but the bear will be stuffed and mounted,
and placed on display at the Anchorage airport (to remind
tourist's of the risks involved when in the wild).

Based on the contents of the bear's stomach, the Fish and Wildlife
Commission established the bear had killed at least two humans
in the past 72 hours.

His last meal was the unlucky nature buff in the third picture
below.

The US Forest Service, backtracking from where the bear had
originated, found the hiker's 38-caliber pistol emptied.

Not far from the pistol were the remains of the hiker.

The other body has not been found.

Although the hiker fired six shots and managed to hit the grizzly
with four shots (they ultimately found four 38 caliber slugs along
with twelve 7mm slugs inside the bear's dead body) it only
wounded the bear and probably angered it.

The bear killed the hiker an estimated two days prior to the bear's
own death by the gun of the Forest Service worker.

Think about this.
If you are an average size man; you would be level with the
bear's belly button when he stood upright, the bear would look
you in the eye when it walked on all fours!

To give additional perspective, consider that this particular bear,
standing on its hind legs, could walk up to an average single story
house and look over the roof, or walk up to a two story house
and look in the bedroom windows.

Ewww. Not really. But the story checks true on Snopes.

Yeah, it's true. True that it's a big bear. But it wasn't "last week." I saw this a few years ago. And the greusome picture of the half eaten hiker is unrelated to this bear.

But it is a huge Freakin' bear.

(edited for stupidity.)

more on this
The original pictures lacked the label linking them with hunting-pictures.com, but that is where the pictures reside. They were posted by a hunter who used the nickname Dalliwacker, on www.assaultweb.net, but who is, according to published articles, Jim Urban. He says that the bear was actually ten feet high and weighed between 1,000 and 1,200 pounds. He says the bear did not stand up then drop down and charge. It showed no aggression at all. He also says the bear was not shot on Hitchenbrook Island but, like all good hunters, he won't be specific about where he got it <smile>.

If it didn't kill anyone and was not agressive he's a fucking arsehole in my book. Find something else to get off on than killing harmless animals and trying to pass it off as 'sport'.

Bear is very, very tasty.

And lots of extra food for all the little bears.;)

Jag, I hear what you're saying, I really do, but that's a pretty misguided attitude.

I was raised to hunt and kill bear, bobcat, deer, racoon, squirrels, birds, etc, etc.

Now, I personally can't do that anymore, I'd rather use a camera, but back hunters rights 100%. Lets just talk about the deer herd for example.

Stop the deer hunt for one year, no more killing harmless animals right? Those 100,000 deer you just saved (I have no idea the stats, think it's close tho) run into cars and die, get diseased and die, starve to death in the winter due to unusually high herd numbers. This state cannot support such a high deer population. In fact the cars & disease do go up, but most simply starve to death.

Now about 99% of hunters I know, get there deer, process it, and eat it. They probably break even on it, after guns, ammo, gas, time off work, etc. But it is a sport, these people think about deer hunting all year long, it is their football season if you will.

You and I may not like it but it is far more humane than doing nothing. And a pretty big percentage of hunters here donate the venison to food pantries. Beats the hell out of rotting carcases on the road or in the fields IMHO,

Bear is VERY tasty, not as a steak tho. Ground like hamburger it is good, but a little dry and tallowy. Mixed 50% into a summer sausage type thing and it is almost indescribably good. I've heard if it's served as steaks it's horrible.

Really, what's the difference between 'Severed Rasputin Penis' and 'Predator Devoured Man'?

had it for the first time about 3 months ago, a coworker brought some jerky in from his trip and it was REAL tasty!

Given that the third image seems to be unrelated to the bear, and given its gruesomeness, I won't post it. It sounds like many of you have already seen it anyway.

It's a little greasy, but otherwise, it's meat. Ground venison does not taste like beef. It's a bit different, kind of gamey, but once again, it's meat.
