fantasy football

lumberjim • Jun 19, 2004 12:41 pm
just taking the temperature at this point, but would any of you be interested in setting up a free fantasty football league on yahoo sports this year? {/geek}
SteveDallas • Jun 19, 2004 1:08 pm
I've never been clear on how these things work. I mean, is there a fantasy cheerleader squad to go along with it? These things are important to know.
lumberjim • Jun 19, 2004 1:13 pm
it's fun. i used to think it was totally lame and geeky.

what you do is:

on a prescribed day, we draft a team of players. running backs, quarterbacks, receivers, a tight end, a fullback, a defense and a kicker.

each week, your team is matched against another, and the stats that your players earn in real life count as points within the fantasy scoring system. you win or lose against your opponent, and your record grows. there is lots of good trash talking, trading, and it changes the way you watch games. it gives you more interest in games you would normally tune out. it takes minimal time investment, and no $$, so even those who don't know football too well can do well.
SteveDallas • Jun 19, 2004 2:18 pm
I may kibbitz. (Or maybe you need a commissioner for the league?? ) I've never been interested in running a fantasy team because part of what I find interesting is the interaction between the players on a team. So slicing and dicing the players' performance apart from their RL teams has never been that appealing to me personally.
lumberjim • Jun 19, 2004 7:44 pm
you ever hear the term 'wet blanket', steve?:)
blue • Jun 19, 2004 7:51 pm
I'd be in if you kept it simple. Don't need more work in my life disguised as fun.

But I get to be the Packers!! Oooo, I love the Packers.

I prefer "stick in the mud," and "grouchface" seems to be my kids' favorite. But yes, "wet blanket" has crossed my ears a time or two.

Even so... the more I think about it, the more I think you're gonna need an impartial commissioner to keep everybody in line.

I might be game.

you can call your team "Brett Favre's Big Hairy Ass" if you want to.

The one time i played in a real live league, with "prizes" for the winners, and "membership fees"; we all designed helmets to go with our team names. I was The Butchers. I had a meat cleaver on my helmet. Mice Nuts won the superbowl. My lame-o boss was "The Eagles" .......dork.

but, if you want to be "The Packers" that's ok with me...just make sure there is a box of fudge on their helmet .;)
lumberjim • Aug 7, 2007 1:11 am
how about THIS year?
DucksNuts • Aug 7, 2007 1:23 am
I have no friggen clue, but I'm always in anything fun :)

If not, I will just spectate and drink.
elSicomoro • Aug 7, 2007 1:28 am
I've been thinking about this myself. I did it with PhillyBlog a few years ago, and I'd like to do it this year...if someone is willing to take the lead on putting it together.

Get away from here. As far as you can.

You don't want to mess with a Bears fan.... :flipbird: :rattat:

Syc you must be talking about our fantasy teams.....because Da Bears just went to the SuperBowl and have the best depth of any team. Chris Harris was what, the #4 safety on Da Bears and got shipped off to another team (forgot at moment which) and is starting?
DanaC • Aug 7, 2007 10:37 am
Ba! Thought you meant....y'know....football.

Fantasy Soccer Dana?

I'm sorry but that's laughable :D
elSicomoro • Aug 7, 2007 11:23 am
Do they even do fantasy soccer? I'd join that too.

Fresh, the Bears in the Super Bowl last year means about, oh, jack shit in today's NFL. :) Seriously, Grossman is not that great of a QB, and there are a lot of questions in both their offense and defense. Plus they play in a weak division. We'll see...IMO, there has been far less consistency in the NFC over the past decade compared to the AFC.

We do...we have done for years...we call it Fantasy Football...We call it that because the game you call soccer, we (and indeed most of the world) call football. (Though to complicate things our slang for football is soccer.)
lumberjim • Aug 14, 2007 12:12 am
jim has invited you to join a NFL.com Fantasy Football
league! To accept this invitation and join the league, click
this link (or cut and paste the link into your browser's
address field):
http://freemeeting.0.football.nfl.com/splash/invite/3817/222464/e6d566ad1a319ed8222c50b3e8f97641

Before you join the league, you'll be presented with key
information about the league, including the draft date,
draft type (live or automated), current league members and
league type (private or public). If this is a private
league, you'll be required to enter the following password
before you can join the league. A password will not be
listed in this e-mail if this is a public league:

League Password: cock

Keep in mind that each NFL.com Fantasy Football league is
limited to 12 members, so it's possible the league could be
full before you have a chance to join. If that happens, or
if you're interested in a different type of league than the
one you've been invited to join, you can easily scan other
open leagues or even create a new league yourself.

We hope you enjoy NFL.com Fantasy Football. Have a great
season.

Do they have Fantasy Futbol?
lumberjim • Aug 14, 2007 12:18 am
fooked if i know
lumberjim • Aug 14, 2007 12:25 am
automated draft is august 19th. easy to do, free. all you have to do is join before then, and rank your players. the rest happens automatically. you can design your own helmet or logo, too.
Clodfobble • Aug 14, 2007 9:28 am
So hypothetically, all I would have to do is randomly assign ranks to a list of players I've never heard of... and since this stuff is about as volatile as the stock market, I could never login to the site again and still kick all your asses by the end of the season? It could happen, right?
lumberjim • Aug 14, 2007 10:26 am
yes indeed. you might just want to be check in a time or two to watch your bye weeks. but, i've seen guys come in 3rd in leagues they had obviously forgotten.

DanaC • Aug 14, 2007 9:21 pm
I don't understand American Football. It's like rugby without the padding right?
lumberjim • Aug 14, 2007 9:27 pm
no. they wear more pads than rugby players do. and they dont keep going like rugby players....it's far more structured and regimented by rules.

fantasy football is all about statistics made by individual players.

the thing with this is....that if we dont get the required 12 teams to fill the league, it wont be formed.
DanaC • Aug 14, 2007 9:41 pm
umm...meant to say rugby with padding.

Anybody ever play that footbal game on the commodore 64, Endzone, I think it was called?
Flint • Aug 15, 2007 12:06 am
American football is more of an old-fashioned military exercise, or a chess game. It doesn't compare, and it isn't meant to compare, to rugby.
lookout123 • Aug 15, 2007 3:16 am

jinx's team ( buncha girls ) looks strong as death. except for week 4 where she's totally fooked as all of her RB's are on bye.
Undertoad • Aug 19, 2007 1:33 pm
are they saying that, like, the 12 best QBs are selected now? And the rest go into free agency?
lumberjim • Aug 19, 2007 2:02 pm
24, actually, as the teams each select 2 qbs.

there is a free agent list and a waiver wire and all .....you can add players from free agency, but you have to drop someone to make room on your roster. you can trade with other people too. I would like to be clear that i will not be trading between my 2 teams, and if someone wants a very well set team (spode?) i'll hand over control of 'the Vacancies' to them.

Trades and waiver moves get listed on the site and emailed to the teams so you can see whats going on. I think that jinx and I should probably not trade either.
elSicomoro • Aug 19, 2007 8:33 pm

I wish I had joined your league
Gimme a link and I'll tell you what i think
lumberjim • Sep 6, 2007 12:10 pm
there are a couple people that took teams jsut to fill the league. you may be able to coax control of a team away from one of them....or they volunteer to give it to you......although, we may find that we've converted some otherwise indifferent folks to the game.

anyway, here we are
Clodfobble • Sep 6, 2007 12:38 pm
He's not going to want somebody else's crappy team, though.

Although it could be a challenge, to start with a team that, say, made its draft picks based on who had the coolest names :), and somehow make brilliant trades to end up with a winning team.
bluecuracao • Sep 6, 2007 1:41 pm
He can have my team, if someone can tell me how to transfer it...
W.HI.P • Sep 6, 2007 2:00 pm
Its alright guys, the draft is the key to success, although I have won leagues that i've actually missed the draft.
If someone copy's and pastes the draft results, then i could clearly have an opinion of who will win, that link given just leads to that main page.
I use Yahoo for fantasy.

1)Eagle green
You are the BIG FAVORITE to win this thing, even if mcnabb gets injured ...your picks are close to perfect...You lack a bit in the WR.
If I was to place money down on who's gonna win this thing, it would be on your team hands down!
2)Goats
I may be wrong to rank you so high as the teams directly below you look better overall, but you've picked up some key players that should produce consistent points for you.
You will lose against some teams below you.
3)Southside Sycamoores
You may actually finish in first in this league...C.Palmer will be a key to winning in the playoffs as he will produce more points than any other player should he remain healthy. The Bears are best defence with a very very easy schedule. Your WR's are elite ..you could use 1 RB.
Good luck
4)Toadville Sysadmins
I'm not saying you won't win it, I just think the 3 teams above you are better
5)The Bullies
Your key units are stellar, but you lack depth to win this.
Unless of course you make the right moves.
6)Buncha girls
There are reasons that you cannot win this league.
Your picks are great, your team is great....
One of the keys to success in fantasy is to know who plays who, and WHEN ...at the end of the season, when you're in the playoffs, ou're gonna lose, because your opponents will have key players playing weak defences.
7)The bimbos
Excellent picks, I like your team...there are a few teams better.
You obviously know the game though.
8)Ratts rogues
You picked some heavy duty units in the draft, but IMO, you made some serious mistakes in some rounds which will cost you.
I could take this team and possibly do something with it as there are plenty of moves you can make..trades, free agents.
Make he moves and make the playoffs
9)The vacancies
Not that bad of a team, you know your stuff, but you lack knowledge in fantasy, you're gonna lose a lot of points due to lack of quality in key positions. P.manning will win you some games, and should you make the playoffs, ou would be strong at the end, but i don't think you'll make the playoffs
10)Monkey Ballers
The teams weak, you do have some good players, but you lack the players that will produce the points...ou will win some, but you ill be below .500 at the end of the year
11)We are the troop
Its not gonna work, I'm not saying you'll finished 11th, bu you will be in the bottom half at the end of the year.
I could not take this team and do anything with it.
You lack too much in too many positions.
A.Johnson is a pretty good pick in that round, but you will mostly lose.
12)The Austin Capybaras
Ok...umm, I assume this is a team to fill the league up?
I've never seen such a bad team...final record=0-16

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
This is my team in the last draft i did:
QB:P.Manning
HB:W.Parker
HB:B.Jacobs
WR:Lavernius Coles
WR:T.Glenn
WR:C.Chambers
TE:A.Gates
K:M.Stover
DEF:Chicago Bears

Back-ups
QB:Grossman
HB:A.Peterson(Vikings)
HB:L.Betts
WR:M.Muhammed
TE:LJ.Smith

One of the key things to success in fantasy is to know when your players Bye's are, look at the match-ups of that week and pick up a QB WR RB that is facing a weak defence that week.
Or in the defence bye, a team that is facing a weak offence like the Dolphins or the Bucs.
To win a fantasy league takes effort. You got to stick around and look into things. Some leagues involve the 10-12 players putting $100 into it, winner takes all, so you gotta know, you know?

Yuk ..I don't like gin, unless its covered by dry martini and some olives.

From what I gather, she wasn't even there at the draft, she got the potential winning team by random.

Hey blue! In the TE position, bench LJ smith and have T.Gonzales starting every week.

Trade Hasselbeck for Mcnair if the Bimbos accept as the Eagles have a week 5 bye..Seattle plays the Steelers, while the Ravens play the week passing defence 49ers that week

Sycamore...drop the Panthers defence and pick up Arizona's.
Week 9 is the bears bye where the Panthers face the titans in tennesee and Arizona plays against week Tampa Bay.
You could also go after Mcnair of Baltimore by trading for him with Delhomme, as the your C.Palmer and the bengals also have a week 5 bye

Yeah, Drop Buffalo's defence, it will do you no good on the ravens bye week 8 as the Bills face the Jets in New York.
Jacksonville would be their prime replacment as they face the Bucs week 8. Next best is the Giants as they face the Dolphins.

Look, I don't even know if you have to, it might be like that already.
All I'm saying is when you get a chance to look at your team, make sure that beside the TE position, it say T Gonzales and not LJ Smith.
Not that LJ isn't worthy, its just that, overall,
you will get more points from TG.

no,no.....i mean you should pick up a quarterback that will start for his team. Your QB's are all backups that wont be playing on Sundays, and therefore...will score 0 every week for you.

Rex Grossman is out there. Matt Schaub, David Garrard....Joey Harrington?

I'd pick up Garrard and Harrington. drop your 2 qbs......then look at the defenses the 2 new guys play to decide who to start each week.

Give me a name that's better than A.J. Feeley, and I'll consider dropping him too. But you can forget that whole "decide who to start each week" nonsense. In D&D, you have complete control over your Player Character's actions.

In FF, you have no control over the actions of the team members.

There are other obvious differences, but I believe that one is the most substantial.

Give me a name that's better than A.J. Feeley, and I'll consider dropping him too. But you can forget that whole "decide who to start each week" nonsense. You're lucky I bothered to figure out how to trade for a free agent. I'm going to spank all of you without making an effort--that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

so...you still have feely starting.....and uh...he had surgery today.

FANTASY ANALYSIS Unless you're a Donovan McNabb owner and have him on your team for some insurance, Feeley should be ignored in all Fantasy leagues.

What's sic is, I have dropped/added the same player at least 2 or 3 times, in the past 7 weeks. Of course, I know that a player is not going to be the same each week, depending on D, so you have to adjust. This week against lj appears to be seriously close. More so, than ones past.

I always play in money games, but you know what. I find them just as competitive without.
I take 1st in over 50% of money games, and I win at least half of them, so the same income comes my way each season.
This league here, is a tad different. By no mean would I forget it.
Maybe I enjoy it even more.
With money down, it seems more of an obligation then enjoyment.

Yes! And you'll note, you predicted I'd be 0-16 for the season, but so far I'm 2-5, which is better than or equal to three other teams in the league, all of whom chose their players by more traditional (pah!) methods.

It makes sense.
Even really bad teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers got a few wins last year.

You should have picked up Gore at RB, he certainly has a name, and ability.

Yeah, it may not be such a well-known brand up in Canada... but for basically the entire 20th century, pretty much every single American board game made for children was manufactured by the Milton Bradley company. the playoff picture:

as it stand right now.....were the season to end today....

sycamore, spode and ducks/whip are division leaders. jinx, griff, and I are contenders for the one wild card spot.

tie breakers are winning pctg then total points. at present, jinx has the edge due to her tie, so she would take it.

if jinx beats spode this week, and I beat sycamore.( griff is playing troop...which has no players, so ....syc would take the wild card spot because I'd win our tie breaker and he'd have the next highest point total.

If syc beats me.....i'm probably fucked.
W.HI.P • Nov 23, 2007 12:09 pm
1)Southside Sycamore's
3)Southside Sycamoores
You may actually finish in first in this league...C.Palmer will be a key to winning in the playoffs as he will produce more points than any other player should he remain healthy. The Bears are best defence with a very very easy schedule. Your WR's are elite ..you could use 1 RB.
Good luck

Good stuff, but now with me in the game, you may not win this!

2)The Vacancies
9)The vacancies
Not that bad of a team, you know your stuff, but you lack knowledge in fantasy, you're gonna lose a lot of points due to lack of quality in key positions. P.manning will win you some games, and should you make the playoffs, you would be strong at the end, but i don't think you'll make the playoffs

You are without a doubt a contender as you will probabl make the playoffs

3)The Bimbo's
7)The bimbos
Excellent picks, I like your team...there are a few teams better.
You obviously know the game though.

I'd like to think that I've helped this team get to where it is.
(The new favorites)

4)Buncha Girls
6)Buncha girls
There are reasons that you cannot win this league.
Your picks are great, your team is great....
One of the keys to success in fantasy is to know who plays who, and WHEN ...at the end of the season, when you're in the playoffs, you're gonna lose, because your opponents will have key players playing weak defences.

Its playoff time, and you're almost there, but as i said in the quote...

5)The Bullies
5)The Bullies
Your key units are stellar, but you lack depth to win this.
Unless of course you make the right moves.

Got you right on the money

6)Goats
2)Goats
I may be wrong to rank you so high as the teams directly below you look better overall, but you've picked up some key players that should produce consistent points for you.
You will lose against some teams below you.

Lets see if you can push into the playoffs

7)Eagle Green
1)Eagle green
You are the BIG FAVORITE to win this thing, even if mcnabb gets injured ...your picks are close to perfect...You lack a bit in the WR.
If I was to place money down on who's gonna win this thing, it would be on your team hands down!

Ok, now this is kinda unfair given the fact that I joined the league in your division. I still like your team.

8)Ratt's Rogues
8)Ratts rogues
You picked some heavy duty units in the draft, but IMO, you made some serious mistakes in some rounds which will cost you.
I could take this team and possibly do something with it as there are plenty of moves you can make..trades, free agents.
Make the moves and make the playoffs

On the money

9)Monkey Ballers
10)Monkey Ballers
The teams weak, you do have some good players, but you lack the players that will produce the points...you will win some, but you ill be below .500 at the end of the year

On the money

10)Toadville Sysadmins
4)Toadville Sysadmins
I'm not saying you won't win it, I just think the 3 teams above you are better

Ok, call this sucking up to the Sysadmins

11)The Austin Capybary's
12)The Austin Capybaras
Ok...umm, I assume this is a team to fill the league up?
I've never seen such a bad team...final record=0-16

I'm suprised

12)We are troop
11)We are the troop
Its not gonna work, I'm not saying you'll finished 11th, bu you will be in the bottom half at the end of the year.
I could not take this team and do anything with it.
You lack too much in too many positions.
A.Johnson is a pretty good pick in that round, but you will mostly lose.

On the money

The Playoff Picture

Western Division

sycamore is 9-3
Griff 8-4
Jim 7-5
Troop - will finish 2-12

Central Division

Whip/Ducks 7-5
Blue 6-5-1
Jester 5-7
Toad 3-9

Eastern Division

Elspode 9-3 ( while totally asleep at the wheel, goddammit)
Jinx 7-4
otherguy 5-7
clodfobble 3-9

in the west:

sycamore plays troop next so will finish no worse than 10-4
Griff has to beat me AND sycmore to finish 10-4, but as the second tie breaker is total points, sycamore would win the division. If he DID win out, he'd take the wild card spot, so Griff controls his own destiny. I would need a mathematical miracle that i'm not about to type out.

Central:

blue faces WHIP/ducks this week, so if she wins, and they both win their subsequent games, blue's win pctg would be higher because of the tie. this week is essentially a playoff game for these two teams, as they will both probably roll over their next opponents (jester and UT respectively) jester needs an even bigger miracle than i do, and UT can look forward to a nice low draft pick next year.

In the East, Elspode faces two other absentee owners so will, undoubtedly finish 11-3, meaning jinx has no shot at the division title even though she will also trounce those same two foes as she faces them in turn. her best hope is for griff to lose at least one of his 2 much harder games. again, she has a tie, so her winning pctg would be higher if griff lost a game. otherguy has brett farvrrrrrrah, so he might shock one of those two teams, though.....and, thanks for playing clodfobble...your team has cool names. Both you and the other guy are mathematically eliminated at this point though.

You're very welcome. I'm obviously cheering for you(nothing against your opponents)
.... and its not because i've got my money on you either.

I would seriously consider benching the Falcons White for the Eagles Brown this week as things don't look to good for White in this particular match-up even if he plays, he' gonna be extremely limited.
Brown is questionable, but lets not forget, he's a great reciever playing against a very weak defence.... could be a big day.

Sycamore's team is good.

You would want to avoid Goats team in the final as he holds some players who will put in some extra effort next week should he make it to the final....otherwise, you've won it as the Vacancies players will not produce at all next week

Thought your fantasy season was over? It's NOT. Play NFL.com's Playoff Challenge and experience the excitement of postseason Fantasy Football! It's simple. Create a team of 8 NFL players who you think will collect the most Fantasy Points throughout the postseason. Changing players between rounds is limited, so the challenge is to pick players whose teams will continue playing all the way to the Super Bowl. i started in on it the wrong way, and at the end of all that set up, it wants $130 to start the league. it looked liek it had a couple advantages, like custom scoring, and division assignments....but $130? only if it was a money league. I'll do the free one some time and remind ya.

When is the draft?
I'll join if I'm sure I can make it on the day of the draft.
lumberjim • Jul 25, 2008 6:14 pm
it's an automated draft, whip. you just set up your preferred order of players, and what position to draft in what round, and it takes the highest ranked by you.

Aug 17th is draft day.

it's automated. set your order up prior to the draft.

first, rank your players by position

then, set what position to draft in each round.

then hope you get your guys
W.HI.P • Aug 2, 2008 1:28 am

Ok:

A lot of people would tell you that Running backs are the #1 focus...I disagree.
If you remember this league and how points were scored, you'd know that QB's and the defence are as important.

When considering a QB, one must not only see their ability, but also the tools they have to work with.
You also have to keep in mind what kind of back up QB the team has.
Most teams with a good young secondary QB will let their older QB start the year till week 5-6 and let the younger guy take over.
In this case you should own both QB's of a good offensive team.

Some teams have 2 key running backs...owning one of them as a 1-2 RB in your fantasy team is a bad idea.

Wide-recievers won't win you this competition, so under no circumstances should you choose 2 in the first four rounds, that would condemn your chances here.

If this was a live draft, it would be better... This Tight End situation is tricky as there are only a hand-full of players who will score you serious points, if you can't get them, you should push the TE option down a few notches.

The defence is key, but their rankings are the most warped i've ever seen.
They seem to base it on the running back the team holds.
I mean the Vikings defence sucks, so why are they ranked #1?
The theory that Adrian peterson will run the ball through-out the year ticking the clock allowing the defence to rest, thuis having less points scored against.
The Chargers defence is of greater value... yes Tomlinson fills that theory, but the units in the defence are also key as San Diego can stop the pass where the Vikings are incapable.
When picking a defence, one must also consider the schedule of the team involved. A team's schedule is primarily against the teams in their division.

Kickers. this position should be pushed to the second last slot, or third last at best.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Strategies:

1)QB
2)RB
3)WR
4)RB
5)TE
6)WR
7)QB
8)RB
9)WR
10)Def

That would be for the average Joe.

1)RB
2)QB
3)WR
4)RB
5)TE
6)WR
7)WR
8)RB
9)Def
10)QB

That would be more common, depending on who you wanna get.

If you have your goal set on someone thats listed low, you can lower that stat a few notches.

Young talent is key .... look at the NFL draft results over the past 2-3 years to see who's up and coming, also consider who the exalted one is.

Players..... grrr, I really don't want to get into this because I'll be giving away the guys i'm after, and I would end up not picking them up... there may be no money involved, but I am competitive, and I would want to win this thing.
My guys are so far down that the only way I won't get them is if I start mentioning names here.

Lets do it this way ...if you wanna know about a hand-full of guys, ask me, and i'll give you my opinion of them and their position in the pre-draft rankings.

What does this entail? I've never done fantasy football, and know nothing about the current state of the NFL.

I'm willing to join in if it doesn't require constant monitoring after the initial bit. Is it free?

I could compete with Clodfobble for the players with funny names.
Clodfobble • Aug 6, 2008 5:15 pm
It's free, and can be really-really-really hands off, a small initial bit of interest and then nothing more for the rest of the season, or adjusting your team every week like some of these schmoes. :)

Click the link jim gave a couple pages back... you will need to register for a username at nfl.com (this is the one moderate-pain-in-the-ass part.) Once you have a username, just type in your team name, and you can be done if you want. Or you can click the link to rank the players you want for the draft, with a handy little drag-and-drop list interface. If you don't touch it, you get the website's default ranking of who they think is the best. That's it. The draft happens, you get who you get, then it posts everyone's scores and rankings to the website each week. Trade players, or ignore it, it doesn't matter.

It's nice if you put the occasional effort towards smack-talking in this thread during the season, though. :)
Griff • Aug 6, 2008 5:20 pm
You don't even have to adjust your initial draft picks if you don't want to. The system will set up a decent team based on their rankings.
lumberjim • Aug 6, 2008 9:58 pm

OK, so I'm looking at my team, and I see that I've got a few injured players. My starting WR will miss at least the first game, and my reserve WR will be out for a month or so. Can I sub in a player from a different position? Like can I sub in a TE for a WR?

Also, is there an easy way to know if a player will be missing a game on a bye week without following stuff closely? Like can you click on their name or something?
Griff • Sep 3, 2008 9:35 am
You can't sub across positions but you can use the drop/add feature to pick up free agents and ditch injured guys.

(go to the bottom of your lineup setting page and click add/drop)

The bye weeks are listed on your lineup page as well.
glatt • Sep 4, 2008 5:00 pm
Well, I tried it out.

And it's really funny, because I traded my injured WR (is that a wide receiver?) for another WR from the same team, figuring that if one dude is sitting on the bench, the other guy will definitely end up out on the field racking up the points or whatever. But then while the trade was being held until the next morning for processing, the new guy I picked got injured, and the coach is now talking about playing the original guy I had. Bizarre huh?

But now I don't have him any more, and I'm back where I started.
Clodfobble • Sep 4, 2008 7:07 pm

Micheal Turner's been good for the Chargers these past couple years.
Playing behind Ladanian won't get you in the spotlight much.
No matter how good he is though, running behind this mediocre Falcons line will limit him against greater defence's than the lions.

So yeah, great running back+bad OL=Mediocre year.

This is kinda fun: if the Jets shut down SD's passing game, and SD doesn't wind up kicking 3 FGs, I probably win. Otherwise W.HI.P wins. Chances are good he gets the 18 points he needs, out of a WR, TE, and K, all San Diego players. But it'll be close.

Its a done deal UT, the only Chargers option I don't own is Chambers.
I can't believe you're starting out 0-3...Like WTF?
I had you pegged as the favorite from the division.. Peterson and Turner are of the absolute elite.

You would have won if you had started Ronnie Brown(4 TD's!).

I'll trade you for Adrian and Chad... make me an offer for who you want from my team. We both own one too many superstar RB's.

My daughter had colored a picture of football players the other weekend when we were watching some game, and I just thought it would be cool to scan in and make my helmet pic. I see what you did there UT. Convince the newbie he's got great talent on his team so you can cream him in week five. Pretty sneaky.

McNabb's performance seems to be tied to the share price of Wachovia.

I've always known football is a rough sport, and players get injured, but after doing this fantasy football this fall, there is absolutely no way my son will be allowed to play football.

Brian Westbrook sprained his ankle a couple weeks ago, and then last week broke two ribs. So I got on the internet to read about the treatment for broken ribs. Everything I saw said that if you don't do anything even remotely vigorous, the ribs will heal in a couple months. But if you stay active, they will never heal. Also, you're in constant excruciating pain until they do heal. It hurts to breathe. Then I read the little blurb about Westbrook the other day, and he's saying his broken ribs are "sore", and that he can't sleep, but that he hopes to play this weekend. Maybe wear a flak jacket and play anyway. Some web sites report that if you are active with broken ribs, you can puncture internal organs. But the Eagles were actually talking like he might play the game this weekend. I benched him. So today they announced he won't play, and next week is a bye, so there is still speculation that he will play the next game after that. Frankly, that's insane. I know the money is good, but wtf? You only get one body. The bones won't heal in two weeks.

lumberjim • Oct 10, 2008 3:29 pm
I have a hard time feeling sorry for a millionaire because he was injured doing his job. I know it's cold of me.....but yeah....rub some dirt in it is right.

I'm thinking I'm going to start Ferrote vs the Lions instead of Peyton Manning vs the Ravens.....

it looks like a bad play on paper, but i get the feeling that peyton will struggle.
glatt • Oct 10, 2008 4:51 pm
I'm wondering about McNabb. I benched him because he's sucked lately. Also, Westbrook is out, and that hurts him too. But he just held a meeting with the team to kick some energy into everyone and turn things around. The pep talks always work in the movies. Do they work in real life?
lumberjim • Oct 10, 2008 5:00 pm
mcnadds or aaron rodgers.....hmmm.....

it's a toss up. the seahawks gave up 44 points last week against the giants...I think i'd prolly start rodgers the lodger too.
W.HI.P • Oct 10, 2008 7:25 pm
Excuse me, but Donovan has not altered his play at all since the start of the season..
That little diagram shows nothing but numbers.
The reality of the way he's preformed is based upon the defence's he's faced.
He started the season by Kicking the non-existant defence of the Rams.
He then beat up on the mediocre Dallas defence.
Since then he has faced 3 of the 7 best defence's in the NFL:
#1=Chicago
#4=Redskins
#7=Steelers
He now plays the 49ers who's pass defence has been under par for several years.
If you're contemplating starting Rodgers over Mcnabb in a week like this? you might as well drop the man.
Yes Westbrook is his best option but HELLO!!!!, the Packers are missing half their team...I don't care how bad the Seahawks are.
Your decision is a no-brainer
glatt • Oct 11, 2008 10:50 am
Hey, Thanks W.HI.P.

I actually don't know the first thing about football. The numbers and the little news blurbs they supply on each player are all I have to go on. I know it's important to consider the team each player is facing, but since I don't know anything about those teams, I just ignore that part of the equation.

But I'll take your advice because I was torn anyway, and I know that you know a hell of a lot more than I do.

Thanks again.
lumberjim • Oct 11, 2008 11:19 am

Carson Palmer is out, so the bengals wide recievers may suffer.

Hassleback is out for the seahawks, same result.

rodgers is knicked up too, glatt, so yeah...start donovan

winslow (te browns) is sick, and hospitalized

good matchups this week!

the griff household faces off, the website predicts pete to win by 1. 101 to 102.

clodfobble is actually favored by 9 against a knicked up dirty hippy team. clodfobble is the second highest rated coach, and jinx is 3rd, btw.

Undertoad needs to put a kicker in against zippy (packers have a bye) and then that game will look a lot closer ( currently predicted 93-112 Troop.)

my misfits will keep it close, im sure...even though i face a winless labrat with a projected 17 point edge

glatt and whip face off ....whip is favored by 2, but the glattmen are pretty resilient and, in my opinion underestimated by the gurus this week.

sycamore looks like he is in trouble aginst blue. wtf is a flex player? you need to sign a WR syc. chop chop.

the coach ratings:
1. pete
2. clobble
3. jinx
4. WH.IP
5. jim
6. zippyt
7. glatt
8. griff
9. Undertony

i lost to the ratpack. i had signed avery last week to fill a spot at WR. then the other night, i second guessed that move and dropped him in favor of Josh Morgan...because the rams played NE, and the niners play the seahawks. seemed like a good move. So, fucking labrat signs Avery, and starts him. Naturally, he scores 22 points, and Morgan scores ZERO. I think he may have left the game with an abraded labia.

anyway....good game labber, you were totally due.

and the rules:

Undroppable Players
To maintain the integrity of your league, you will be prevented from dropping certain star NFL players throughout the season. NFL.com, as commissioner of all NFL.com Fantasy 2008 leagues, will decide - in its sole discretion - which NFL players are undroppable. If there are players we've deemed undroppable on your roster, they will not be displayed on the Add/Drop page for your team. You may appeal to NFL.com for permission to drop an undroppable player; however, NFL.com will make the final decision on all undroppable player requests. Appeals can be sent via the Help Center page and should include the names of the players you want to add and drop.

Fixed that for you.

Dirty Hippies came back strong and it turned into the best game of the week, which I won 117-110.

Hippies live and die with Romo, and just like the Cowboys, she has shitty backup QBs. :D

It's like last year, I probably can't catch up even if I run the table, but I've moved to #7 in the power rankings which is kinda cool.
lumberjim • Nov 11, 2008 1:49 pm
actually, she has Orton as a back up, who would normally be fine, but he hurt his sissy little ankle last week, and rex got the start this week.

Dude I kicked your ass off when we played, 132-71. Fear me in week 13. That's right, I said fear me.
lumberjim • Nov 12, 2008 8:52 pm
there's another Thursday game this week....get your acts together, people.

I want it noted that I am projected to score 133 points this week. anyone want to take 'the over' in a side bet?
lumberjim • Nov 14, 2008 12:04 am
yar.....just a little FYI here....

Clobble scored 42 points with one guy (Cassell) this week. And he's a back up. Good move signing him, btw.

in week 8, the sysadmins scored 46 total points
in week 5 clodfobble scored 29 altogether, and
in week 4, labrat totalled 28 points

and matt cassell is not a weird name. at all.
Clodfobble • Nov 14, 2008 1:30 pm
I set up my draft based on weird names. I can't help it if some of you fuckers took them first.

honestly, if there was one person that i'd be happy to lose to, its you.
if i had won, you would be finished for this season.
i've got my main opponent coming up next week, so thats what i'm interested in.
did i let you win this year? ...not exactly, but i didn't do some moves that i coulda to up my points.
i am cheering for you though.
lumberjim • Nov 18, 2008 12:53 am
now....our whole division is up in the air. after this week, we'll all be 4-7 except zippy who'll be 5-6.

even if she had lost, she would only be 2 games out, and plays the equally inconsistent bullies next week. if zippy loses, there will be 3 5-7 teams and one 4-6. that team will probably be donebut not mathematically. i'd like to stay alive as long as possible.....so i'm interested in it.
Undertoad • Nov 18, 2008 8:25 am
Woo, a one-point win for 3 Ws in a row.
glatt • Nov 18, 2008 9:06 am
I barely squeaked past zippyt. I had a big lead over him going into last night's game, (63 to 38) but I was done. I had no-one playing last night. His sole Monday night player had his second best game of the season and brought the score up to 63 - 60. I almost wish he had won, because that would have been beautiful.

(It's also beautiful that I'm in a 3 way tie for 1st place.)
LabRat • Nov 18, 2008 9:24 am

the funny thing is, you'll probably still win.
glatt • Nov 28, 2008 10:01 am
I actually had a fleeting thought as I benched them that McNabb's getting benched the week before would be the kick in the pants he needed to shape up. But I played it safe and benched them both anyway.

Schedule & Playoffs
Regular Season
The first 14 weeks of the NFL season represent the regular season for NFL.com Fantasy 2008 leagues. During these 14 weeks, each team will play the other teams in its division twice each, and they will play teams in the other divisions once each. When the draft is complete, you can see your team's specific schedule by clicking the Schedule link
Playoffs
When the 14-game regular season ends, four (4) teams from the league will make the playoffs: the three (3) division leaders (the team with the best win/loss record in each division) and a wildcard team, which is the team with the best win/loss record in the league, excluding the three (3) division leaders.
The division leader with the best record going into the playoffs will be the #1 seed, and the #1 seed will play the wildcard (seed #4) in the first playoff match in NFL Week 15. The other division leaders will be seeded #2 and #3, and will also face each other in week 15.
If there is a tie for the order of playoff seeds, the following tie-breakers will be used.

lumberjim • Dec 6, 2008 9:09 pm
here's the deal:

jinx is in representing the central division

sycamore is in. if he beats glatt, glatt is still in if clodfobble loses, and out if she wins. (she'd be in)
if syc loses to glatt, the one with the most YTD points would win the division, and the other would take the wild card. clodfobble would be out.

the winner of the tie between zippy and blue are in as division winner.

zippy plays the bullies, blue plays the capybaras.

if they both lose or both win, zippy will win because he has the better division record (4-1 v 3-2) if one wins, and the other loses, the winnar is in.

sycamore vs clodfobble

good run glatt, griff, labrat, undertoad, pete, whip, and blue.

It was a Monday Night Miracle...Deangelo Williams had a monster game, and I beat Glatt by one point. Total luck...don't know if I'll be so lucky next week. But I did win my second divisional championship in a row...whoohoo!
lumberjim • Dec 15, 2008 9:29 am
you'll need another to keep that 12 point lead against glatt and B Westbrook tonight.

Jinx will need a triple miracle to get 41 points out of the Eagles Defense......

Looks like it will probably be glatt vs. Pete in the Super Bowl. I'd have like to see jinx get in, but it's pretty cool that 2 rookies made it.
glatt • Dec 15, 2008 9:33 am
It's all going to come down to Westbrook tonight. He's been very inconsistent this season. If he has a typical lame game, then Syc will win. If he continues his more recent (2 game) trend, I'm going to win. His knee is still injured, and there is no way his broken rib has healed yet, but I think he can do it. I need him to get 13 points tonight. I predict 28 points from him.
elSicomoro • Dec 16, 2008 12:16 am

Me and Pete...next week...IN A STEEL CAGE!!!

Let's make a friendly wager, shall we?

Congrats Pete and Sycamore - good luck in the Superbowl.
Pete • Dec 16, 2008 7:13 am
Hey Jinx. You really put up a good fight. Before the late game Sunday you had three players left and needed more than 20 points each. Everyone but Barber pulled that off.

OK Syc - How about a music wager? I win, you send me a CD from your CD collection. You win, I'll send you one of mine.

Bring on the steel cage, Ponies are out for revenge.
glatt • Dec 16, 2008 8:33 am

rainbow's team is certainly a suprise to me in the final

Southside Sycamore's team is not only the team to beat in the division, it should be the favorite going into the playffs

no suprise there though, you could have won it last year too.

this nfl fantasy thing would be a lot better if it was a live draft, not a pre-ranking deal

good luck to both of you
