FBI report on auto theft

Undertoad • Oct 22, 2001 4:12 pm
The FBI announced today that 30% of all auto thefts occur on Friday and Saturday.

I saw this piece of info on a CNN crawl today. OK, Friday and Saturday are two days of the week. There are seven days of the week. Therefore, Friday and Saturday represent roughly 29% of the week.

A few years ago the Inquirer wrote that Jersey shore officials excitedly announced that 24% of all auto collisions happen during the summer months.

Duh.

Half of all Americans have IQs below average.

Americans 'tend to stretch weekends': 40% of US work absences are on Monday or Friday.

There is a book called 'Innumeracy' that tells these better.

There was a Dilbert once where the PHB pointed that out in a metting (that 40% of all sick days are taken on Mon or Fri) and annouced that it "must stop." The intern laughed aloud and said "HAHAHA! That's a good one..... wait... are you serious?" Wally leans over and says "Welcome to Hell, Kid".

Always liked that one.

Sounds like the FBI if full of PHBs.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, in pushing graduated driving programs, noted that almost 40% of auto accidents involving young people happen between 9pm and 6am.
