That's interesting, but not that much use for me. I've found that in my neck of the woods, the relationships among gas prices at different gas stations is pretty much constant. In other words, if station A is $0.02 higher than station B, and station B is $0.05 higher than station C, those differences remain constant as prices fluctuate up and down (and up and up). So I don't really worry about shopping around--I know which of the stations along my usual haunts have the lowest prices, and make a point of stopping at them.

that's pretty much my consensus too but hey, if i can find a station a few blocks over from my normal route that's cheaper i'm all for it....

I can only fill up 2 or three more times....

I gave a vital organ (they haven't told me which one yet) at the pump yesterday - 30.00 to fill my Monte Carlo on Medium Grade gas.

Gas (I thought) was high priced in upstate.I'm finding I was wrong.Monday it was $2.08 at my usual haunt.Now its $ 2.15.Beware of Portland Oregon.

at $2.15 here you'd have a line around the city.

Just hit the $2.00 mark here in CT. Last week it was $1.89. Next week I think I'll trade in the car for a horse. Anybody know what a bale of hay goes for?

I haven't spent $30 to fill our Dodge Grand Caravan yet, but I've come damned close, and it's only a matter of time.

There are still some places arouns here at $1.84 or $1.85, but many are up over $1.90. I haven't seen anybody over $2.00 (for regular that is) yet.

I believe my local Mobil was at $1.91 this morning. (Far NE section of Philadelphia) At this price, my car costs about $20 to fill up; Rho's costs about $15.

The reality here is that we've been spoiled for too long.

In March 1981, the national average for gas was $1.417 a gallon--$2.921 a gallon in 2004 dollars. Gas prices in the US haven't kept up with inflation, so we're still paying about a dollar less than the all-time high.

Granted, I'm not happy about having to spend $20 to fill up my car, and it sucks for people who are struggling...but it could be worse.

Well, at least you guys in Europe have a pretty nice public transportation system. I adored the Swiss railroads - clean, fast, and couteous employees. Last time I was there they even upgraded my 2nd class Swiss rail pass to first class for free!

Meanwhile, back here at the ranch, I just paid $35.00 to fill up my Ford Explorer. Gas in Colorado Springs is running around $1.90/gal for the cheap stuff.:censored:

As of Friday, the average price of petrol in the UK was 80.2p per litre--$5.40 a gallon.

Which brings up the question, WHY is it so expensive? Is it just taxed a ridiculous percentage?

$5.40 a gallon... that's about the cost of a pack of cigarettes these days.

One of life's ironies, I guess. My previous car was a wonderful little Suburu. I put 300,000 miles on it before its heart - aka engine - gave out on it. I was then given some extremely bad advice by a man I was engaged to at the time. "Buy a Ford!" he said. "I can fix Fords. Know all about 'em. We'll be a 'Ford family!'" So I bought the damn' "Exploder" and my fiance took off for California, never to be heard of again. That's one of them, but at 2 or 3 hundred miles per YEAR, it's hardly impacting the fuel supply.

Yeh , but its a FAST 2-300 miles !!!

Gas costs about $1.80-$2.00 here .
It takes $50 to fill up my work truck ( 40 gal tank ) .

Now $1.95 a gallon at the Mobil up the street...I suspect it's over $2 a gallon in the inner city.

I just read this morning that the Smart car built by Mercedes and styled by Swatch is finally going to be imported to the USA. Unfortunately, because of the weak dollar, it will cost $20,000.

It kicks ass. It gets 60 mpg, and is plenty roomy inside for a couple of large adults. I saw them on the autobahn in Germany, and they can keep up with the rest of the cars there.

Does the roof collapse automatically so they can just dig a hole and bury you in it if you crash? And where do you put the groceries ... or even your briefcase?

Those windshield wipers are interesting.

There's a foot or so in between the back of the seats and the rear hatch. You can fit a lot of groceries in there.

It passes all US safety regulations. Handles well, gets outstanding gas mileage, and is only slightly smaller than the new mini cooper. But has more room inside for the passengers.

I believe the Smarts are already available in Canada...I wonder if you can import one into the States.
