Thrills, Chills ...

PLASTIC FORKS!!!!!
Saturday, June 26 is the official start-date. (it's not like it's that open ended an event, but as last year's attendees know, by tradition things are still going on, or actually kind of restart, after people regain consciousness on Sunday.)
Photographic evidence of last year's revels.Aw, fuck yeah! I was just thinking about Forks the other day...man, what a party!
Questions to ponder for this year:
--Will Slang show up? (Wolf, he told me a few weeks ago that he probably wouldn't be coming...do something!)
--If Slang shows up, will he attempt to cook over an open flame again?
--Will Jimbo replace Bitmap as the cheerleader?
--Who will Maria become friendly with? My money is on Toad.
--What will I leave behind this year?
This will rock and not suck. :)
Have fun ya'll. I'll be hiding from the cicadas...:p

I was going to ask you in a week or two when it is this year, since I'm too lazy to find out when the solstice is. I called Dragon17 and we'll try to make it.
Does Bob want me to bring my grill again? I'll make sure to bring some more desserts this year.
And yes, I will bring the bodhran, although someone else may have to play it.

Wheee! It will be great to see both of you! :)
Yes, I'm sure the grill will be quite welcome. Any device that has been recalled and comes with safety warnings fits right in.
The bodhran is also a welcome addition, especially if you get the go-ahead from the Mrs. to hang out into the darkness hours for drumming around the bonfire! There will likely be more than a few people who will be happy to provide bodrhan instruction. I have one that I rarely play, mostly I use a Native American style frame drum.

You know, I especially liked the part about 'resembles a lush Christmas tree'. If it were legal, you could buy a marijuana tree and decorate it for the holidays with popcorn and candy canes. When the holiday is over you could smoke the tree and eat the popcorn and candy canes for the munchies. No more rotting Christmas trees in the trash.

:joint:
BTW, just in case I ever decide to run for political office, I have actually never tried marijuana. I just went to college in the 70's and don't consider it any more of a social problem than tobacco, alcohol, or any number of unsafe things people should be allowed to do.

well make sure you bring enough "tobacco" to share, big guy
As already mentioned, you have to bring enough weed for everyone...you better get cracking on obtaining such a large quantity.
BTW, I will be bringing the Xyron 510 to Plastic Forks. If you come, bring a homemade bumper sticker (or window sticker) up to 5" tall and I will add the adhesive/laminate.
You evil little monkeys...that's the same day as
The Mermaid Festival !
*sulk sulk*
Transvestites dressed in spangles and lots of nekkid breasts...or Cellarite Goodness...
Decisions, decisions...
So, I'll be bringing the bodhran and bumper sticker machine for the entertainment and crafts portion of the event.
I have invited 3 friends. Dragon17, who was there last year. Joe. and Bob. I also told my son he could drop by.
I will try to bring enough food for them so that I make a positive contribution to the event.
Joe is a nice guy, and Bob is as interesting as a person can get and not have an arrest warrant out for them or meet Wolf in her professional capacity.
Rich, are you bringing your grill?
Who needs directions?
start date: 6/26 end date: when the last drunk leaves the lawn
Tell Bob to put the fork out there, and I'll have no problem finding it.
What time do festivities start? I'm not sleeping in my car this year, and want to make sure I get a good spot on the floor.
spot on the floor? what, you have to claim your sleeping spot when you arrive? you don't just sleep wherever you happen to fall over? I have commitments early sunday, so won't be staying over. jinx and I are negotiating for driving responsibilty. i'll probably lose. no big. i'm afraid i might come off as obnoxious, or something if i'm drunk.......;) ...not the mild, caring person I truly am in person.

I wouldn't recommend it. Slang's camera was a victim of the morning dew last year. And I damned near killed myself sleeping in my car, so I want a spot where I can throw out my flip chair and call it a day.
I have commitments early sunday, so won't be staying over.
You have to be committed? I understand.
The "official" start time is around 3pm on Saturday. Showing up earlier is not that much of a problem.
The "claiming" refers to soft crash space only ... if you want to sleep on the floor, or outside on the ground there is plenty to go around.
Tents and trailers are welcome (yes, we've had people bring campers).
Just don't park on the bonfire.

Yep. I also got some more of the D&W Beef Hot Sausages. You bring your own Tums.
I know someone is doing desserts, but I'll still grab a few Entemann's cakes from the outlet store.
BTW, I forgot, is there a regfrigerator in the basement? I seem to remember one.
My only rule is no pork on my grill. Being inconsistent, I don't have a problem with seafood, even though it isn't kosher.

That's what I was going to ask...cool beans.
I'll probably bring some beef hot dogs along with some chips, soda, a case of good beer and a bottle of some type of alcohol.
Yes, we have access to a fridge in the basement. The stove doesn't work, though.
We will have fire, however.:)
you're the pallet man, yes? you want i should save some extras aside? we have a pretty impressive pile out back at this point.
Bringing in the dodads by the container now are we bruce? ;)
How is it shaping up for attendance this year? How many from the Cellar are going?
Last year was fun, but it was a smaller group than I expected, probably due to weather.
How many were there the year before last?
I'm bringing 5 pounds of burgers and 6 pounds of beef sausage. That would feed about 20 people.
BTW, will someone please bring ketchup and relish?
I'm undecided. When do we need to RSVP?
As I understand it, last year is the first year that Cellarites came to Forks.
Steve, don't be a stick in the mud. Show up, damnit! :)
don't be a stick in the mud
I'm afraid it's my preferred role in life.

I know. Last year it was about 7 or 8 Cellarites and 12 non. I assumed it was because the weather sucked.
While I don't like crowds, I was sort of expecting 40-50 people. Still, it was a nice mellow crowd and I had some good conversations. The bonfire was very nice.
I thought there would be more people total, but the number of Cellarites seemed about right.
It was awesome...a good time was had by all. Hopefully, this year will be even better, even with Jim there. ;)

you spelled especially wrong. ;)
we'll have some fun, you and me. i plan on pantsing you as soon as i get there, and maybe throwing in a pinkbelly if i catch you off guard. i'm bringing a frisbee or 3, a hackeysack, and my drum, so don't think i'm going to let you loll away the evening. I'll be arriving fashionably late, of course, so make sure you're at least 2 sheets to the wind by 6pm. i'm much easier to get along with when you're drunk. ;)
no, for real, syc, we'll have a good time.
Started toking early tonight, I see...

There isn't an official RSVP. Who the fuck do you think we are? Emily Fucking Post?? ;)
One of the interesting bits about forks is that we never know who is going to make it ... also, because of the date algorithm, people who haven't been for like the last 10 years are able to just show up.
If I said I'll be there, no one from the Cellar will show up. And I'll be late.
:haha:

I just checked the weather. One site says thuderstorms for Kennett Square on Saturday and another says rain and drizzle. S :censored: t!
I just got the Red Devil out of storage and spent a half hour cleaning and prepping it. I even got to take it over to a friends house for a last minute grill.
While I have been cooking some meals for my family, Plastic Forks was going to be my first public BBQ this season, seeing as how my wife insisted on f:censored:g cold cuts for my son's graduation.
I'm still going as long as it's still on, but I'm not quite crazy enough to grill in a thunderstorm.
BTW, here's a picture of my BBQ baby all cleaned up.
NBC10 says partly cloudy and 82. My-cast says possibility of rain and 81. The weather's been rather odd the last couple of months...hopefully we'll be as lucky this year as we were last year.
They haven't got much of a track record for 48 hours no less 5 days, so I'm not worried yet. :)
yeah, I go out of my way to ignore the weather. Especially this month. they don't fucking know...
My attendance is highly weather-dependant.
You see, I am going to be on my motorcycle and I hate getting soaked. Plus I have no windshield wipers and little cargo capacity (no tater salad BOO HOO!). Not to mention a dog who doesn't like the noise and wind and can't even lie down.
If I held a picnic similar to Forks on, say, Labor Day-ish, would anyone come? I promise to pick up the dog doo before you all arrive!
Brian
Although: I just thought of it, I do have a car that can make the trip although it's out-of-date on the inspection (needs tires). If it's raining, the cops might not notice the sticker and I can get through. We'll see...

Fear not. Bob has an "arrangement" about the weather.
One year it was raining buckets in Norristown as I bought the watermelon.
I headed down 202.
As soon as I crossed the Chester County line ... SUN. It was like the curtain of rain parted. It was kind of freaky, but you get used to it.
Rain was predicted last year too.
Oh, and we DO have the use of the basement. There are dry places to be, although running around in the rain and playing umbrella frisbee are forks tested and approved activities.
Oh, and I DO still have Brian's umbrella and hat in the trunk of my car.
so THAT'S where they went! I was wondering what I had done with them. Now I have to come, darn it! ;)
Brian
Alright...you bitches ready?
Who the hell is all going, anyway?
Forecast for Saturday: Partly cloudy and 80. If that holds, it's gonna be a great day.
I should be able to make it, by about six-ish or so.
Where's the motorcycle parking area?
Pretty much anywhere but the roof of the house.
Actually, you could park there assuming that you could get it there, not damage the roof, and get it down afterward.
I still feel guilty for turfing Bob's lawn last year, not to mention those hardy souls unfortunate enough to be standing behind my right rear wheel. I think I'll just go for the bottom of the hill.
Brian
I know that most people have difficulty with this one ...
You are actually allowed to drive on the lawn.
It grows back.

I guess I have to go... I just bought a case of beer to bring to it. Be a shame to back out, and have to drink all the beer myself, wouldn't it??
I won't be joining you fine folks this year...
But I 'may' be checking in to see if anyone's fallen in the bonfire...
So someone stay sober enough to answer the darn phone!
I will be bringing the Xyron 510. So I can convert any strip of paper "5 or less wide into a bumper sticker. No real limit on length but be reasonable.
Don't let an election year go to waste.:typing:
Oh, and I will bring the bodhran (frame drum) if someone else will play it.
I'm bringing a Conga drum. and my L J oval sticker.
I'm bringing beer, food, my good looks and my wit. That's more than enough.
Oh you all are just too funny...lets just taunt blue because there's no way in hell he's coming all the way from Wisconsin.
Just keep it up, I'll end up out there some day, when you least expect it. Boy then ther's gonna be some hell to pay.
Hmmm...*ponders Blue's words*
Nope...not sweating it. :)
Start sweating it. I got blue's back.
If anyone intends to touch base via phone, I'd recommend using my cell (provided in the PM'd directions) ... the house phone is mostly answered by the host's mom who has a hard time getting up and down the stairs to the basement.
Well not now shitwad, when you LEAST expect it. Like next tuesday, when your phone rings, and nobodies there....that might be me.
The flat tire, the dead battery? Is it chance, or is it blue?
The lump in your breast? Well that's not me, that's cancer.
That cold greasy thing in your temple? That's Wolf with a bigass gun/
That car that ejects you on the sharp turn, that's LJ.
you better start sweating.
*ponders again*
Yeah, you're both a couple of pussycats. :)
**tiptoes backwards out of thread - pulls door slowly to muttering "whew!"**
Hope you havefun and don't forget to take some pictures and to post them...

Dang, Syc, you shoulda thought of a live videocast or something! But don't worry about me, I'll be here, sulking, lonely.
Yikes!!! maybe I ought to rethink my attendance after all!! :worried:
It is NOT, I repeat NOT, the driveway with the balloons. The driveway after Forks has balloons on the mailbox.:)
Have fun all, we expect pictures.
Wonder if there'll ever be enough euros and interest to do a version over here.

Our host and friends.
From "The Man with Two Brains" (1983).
(Doctor Hfuhruhurr is booking himself and Dolores into a hotel)
Michael: "Could you send up a bottle of champagne and put a do not disturb on the phone for the next..um, let's see..we'll go in and put our bags down, start kissing, that's seven minutes, move into the bedroom, slide my hands over her dress, remove her blouse, probably about four or five minutes, we move over to the bed, let's see I wanna rub each inner thigh, that would be four minutes, and so I figure like twenty five minutes of foreplay in general. Then you've got.. I dunno if you call oral sex.. is that foreplay or is that actual sex? It doesn't matter, I'd like to do that twice so.. at least three hours. Alright?"
Concierge: "Three HOURS! Uh yes sir."
(The concierge moves over to the bellboy)
Concierge: "Take Mrs. Hfuhruhurr and that lucky son of a BITCH up to room suite seven twenty nine!"
Did I mention there was a fire? Me getting way too toasty.

There was also dancing. I have 1 short (5-10 second) avi of drumming, 1 avi of dancing, and one other avi which our host will get.
Since they are each about 6-8 MB, I can't post them here, they will go onto the Plastic Forks 2004 collectible CD which I am going over to deliver.
I got half my photos back this afternoon. Once I get them scanned and uploaded to my site, I'll post a link to them. The rest I won't get back until tomorrow--I have to finish up a roll of film tonight.
I got a head start on Forks by starting my drinking Friday night...

Excellent pictures Steve.
Excellent pictures, everybody ...
Mine will be up as soon as I get my lazy ass to bring the camera in and find the USB cable and hook everything together and get them up on the website.
(Oh and bob needs to send me info regarding some photo gallery software or something, so it's not really my fault ...)
Here are all of Bruce's photos.
Here are the rest of my photos. I had to step down the photos by cutting the image size and quality in half.
Anyone who wants a full image to make a print can PM me.
The video clips were too large. I will try to chop them down so that tehy can be posted.
Great party.

really don't think that's likely. I'm a suburban white girl deadhead.... I can't dance for shit.
I did enjoy myself though, thanks. It was a very welcome diversion from an otherwise stupidly stressful weekend, and I had a great time sitting in my borrowed chair, flirting with Bruce. Thank you wolf, for the invitation.
I just sat where I was mostly the whole time, till Bruce lit the fire & I moved in around it. LJ & jinx came in after I was there. I'm innocent, I tell ya, innocent!!!
With respect to jinx anyway.
Soo...no orgy, no fights, the cops didn't even show up?!

I have an uncle who lives in Uniontown. Figure on an eight hour trip if you don't stop every twenty miles to pee (leave the wife at home, natch).
Locate the Chadds Ford Winery on your map or look it up. You can throw a baseball from there to the Forks location (kept secret by habit)

* Edit Actually just my lame ass computer.. never mind, I'll go back into the shadows now
I would like to invite anyone who attended Forks 2004 (and Tony) to a BBQ at my house on Saturday, July 31st at 4:00 in Boothwyn, about 10 miles SouthEast of Plastic Forks. I am sorry to limit it but my house cannot accomodate a large group.
This is a BYOB event. Families with children are welcome. I am inviting friends and family members with children.
Please RSVP by PMing me for directions.
My house is in a development and has an 18x18 deck and a finished basement. I have a small backyard but a long 50x300 foot easement running behind my house for any sports. Entertainment will include an air hockey table. I also have a Xyron 510 bumper sticker maker. Bring along any creations up to 5 inches in height and you can make your own statement to the world.
Drums and musical instruments are welcome, but there may be a time restriction. Unfortunately, there will be no bonfire and no camping or crashing.
Noone has to bring anything. We will have soft drinks, desserts, various BBQ meats and salads, including potato salad, etc. If anyone wants to bring a side dish, they are welcome to do so. It is BYOB.
there will be no bonfire and no camping or crashing.
In other words it will suck. Sounds like a nice buffet tho.

Okay, I WAS saving the nude skydiving as a surprise, but......
Seriously, don't think I don't envy Bob his access to a semi-secluded plot of private land.
Still, good food and friends are still better than the alternative, a lonely death by starvation.
I think it sounds absolutely delightful!
Have liquor, will travel ... (actually given the necessity of having to travel, I'll have less liquor ... )

Actually, the drum head had a tiny rip in it, which I cured with duct tape. Unfortunately, I left the drum in the sun and the skin got hot and stretched.
Yesterday I went out and got a regular 18" plastic drum head. As a result, the drum does sound more tinny.
I will be looking for a real 18" drum skin to replace it. The funny thing is that the drum only cost me about $60 to begin with and between the temporary and new head it will probably be almost as much.
I would have rather spent the money on
tambourines or a
rain drum , or maybe a fish skin headed doumbek .
Maybe next year.
Anyhow Rich, I was just jerking your chain...sounds like a good time.

I think using the wood fireplace in 80 degree weather might be a little crazy. I never bought a chimnea or one of those iron fire pits.
The best I can do is candles.
