A statement from Kerry's campaign to Philadelphia City Paper reporter Helen i-lin Hwang, on US-Vietnamese relations:
Normalization of our relations with Vietnam has increased our ability to discuss human rights issues with Vietnamese leaders. ... [I] do not believe that human rights and change in Vietnam can be forced through sanctions.
The Vietnamese community here is apparently not happy with Kerry.
But I like that attitude. And what if we took this stance with Cuba, instead of being so ridiculously punitive?
