One wish

Catwoman • Apr 20, 2004 4:41 am
So there is intelligent life in cyberspace. What a relief.

If you had one wish, to be granted with no consequence or price, what would it be? (And if anyone says 'more wishes'....)
Pi • Apr 20, 2004 5:41 am
Dying happy, means dying and knowing that I didn't waste my life
Beestie • Apr 20, 2004 7:44 am
Eternal youth.
Undertoad • Apr 20, 2004 8:23 am
Everlasting true love.
Catwoman • Apr 20, 2004 9:12 am
...and as the 103rd Miss World wishes once again for World Peace I can only echo her carefully prepared script. While she does not understand the gravity of her words, I cannot think of a single more important thing than the everlasting acceptance of life without judgement or prejudice. No more war, violence or disharmony. Isn't that what everyone wants?
lumberjim • Apr 20, 2004 9:34 am
I want a time machine
ladysycamore • Apr 20, 2004 9:53 am
Perfect health.
OnyxCougar • Apr 20, 2004 10:21 am
The ability to travel in time as much or as frequently as I want, for as long as I want, and slip into anyone's body or life anywhere in the time continuum without being detected as an imposter, with a photographic memory and no memory loss.

(Can you tell I've played D&D and made wishes before?)
homerjackson • Apr 20, 2004 1:55 pm
I'm with Toad. I want everlasting TRUE love. A time machine wouldn't hurt either.
jinx • Apr 20, 2004 2:26 pm
Patience.

I was at this lecture thing where a man was asked what he wished for his kids. I remember he said, before happiness, love, etc., that he wished for them to be engaged in the world. To be actively participating in it. I thought that was an interesting statement.
elf • Apr 20, 2004 7:00 pm
Money.

Go ahead, think me materialistic, greedy or shallow. . . it's alright.

I have love. I have health. I have two decent children and a slightly shakey but pretty ok job. . . All I want is money. Enough so that I don't have to actually worry about it. Enough so that I could go and get educated. Enough to take a weekend trip every now and then, and maybe even an actual vacation every now and again. Enough that the dream of owning my very own shiny new Harley could be at least feasable.

So yeah. Money.

To be able to speak to my father again,He died 3 years ago and there is not a day goes by that i don't think about him.
I miss the old guy so much.

they say "Time Heals" but it still hurts like hell.
cowhead • Apr 21, 2004 3:32 pm
hmm.. well one of two things.. (although this may seem contradictory) I would like Limited Omnipotence.. being all powerful would kinda be a drag ( I like some of lifes little suprises) so godlike powers but a 'killswitch' with it ( I wouldn't want to accidently dream the world out of existence).. but on a more realistic note.. As someone stated above, to Die happy knowing my life wasn't wasted (and since that's kind of a catch all... you would get true love happiness health etc. with that wish)
Lady Sidhe • Apr 21, 2004 3:54 pm
I'd wanna be a Q.... (yeah, I know...I'm betraying my Trekkie-ness...) But I'd want to be an independent Q...the Continuum is SUCH a drag....;)

to go back and get my pilot's license earlier in life (like 18) so i could be with a major airline right now doing what i love to do and get paid well for it!:D
LSMFT • Apr 21, 2004 4:03 pm
Easy, but I need two wishes. One, the Replacements get together for a new tour, and two, my my Mom could come back from the dead and play with my dog.:p
Pete • Apr 21, 2004 4:04 pm
Can't we all just get along? I guess that sounds a lot like World Peace. That's good, but I was thinking on a smaller person-to-person level. No prejudice, no misunderstandings, no manipulation ... ahhhhhhhhhhh
limey • Apr 21, 2004 7:09 pm
I'm with Miss World and Pete on this one - World Peace. Think of all the co-operation that would proliferate, the arms funding that could go on education/health. Wouldn't it be nice? [cue Beach Boys] .... :band: [/cue Beach Boys]

To die in my sleep like my grandfather...
Not screaming in abject horror like his passengers!

I'd wish to know everything in the universe from the beginning of time to the end of time with perfect recall ability. (This would include being able to speak every language as a native, play every musical instrument like a pro, know all martial arts as a master, be as though I'd read every book ever written, know how to make a time machine, know the secret to eternal youth, know who will win every sporting event, know when I will die, what people are thinking, know exactly how to keep idiots like GWB from wrecking America, how to build interstellar space ships and to communicate with alien cultures, etc.)

And here I thought you already knew all that. :D

you mean you wish you were God?

where's the fun in that? You'd be bored out of your overpowerful mind. why go on from there? you'd be totally depressed and lonely in 3 weeks

I didn't ask for any magical powers. I don't wish to be god, just to know everything that God knows (assuming that fictional character were a real entity).

I'd love to be able to communicate with everyone, be incredibly wealthy and youthful, and help the world go in a better direction. I can see how it could get boring but everything has its price and I'd be willing to pay it.

you'd be totally depressed and lonely in 3 weeks

Who says I'm not now. My wife is 9,000 miles away from me. I am very depressed and lonely. The only difference is I'd be making a lot more money and be able to steer the world in a better direction.
CzinZumerzet • Apr 22, 2004 2:34 pm
I would like to be a fairy godmother so's I could grant everybody's wishes all of the time.

Always provided they behaved themselves.

That would suggest you actually have thought, which is far fetched at best. ;)

I don't think I'm god (or any other fictional character for that matter) and I don't think I know everything. But I can see it might seem like I know everything when you seem to know nothing. But don't worry, just because I'm smarter than you, doesn't mean I'm the smartest guy on earth. :D On the contrary if I barely had 3 digits in my IQ, I would still be much smarter than you.

would you believe that I sometimes wish to be like Cosmo in the Fairly-odd Parents?:3eye:

I would have to say
unlimited self-control
and all that that entails

like never blurting the wrong things
like never getting angry or mad
like letting the world know what i think
in the best ways i can find

all thats within reason, i want
all that reality gives
all the self control in the world
for all facets of myself.
Lena • Jul 2, 2008 10:17 pm
hmm... this is a tough one

realistically- i'd like to get my flying licenses in a timely manner
ideally- i'd like crime to end
personally- I want a set of wings so i can fly without using a machine

It's interesting to open these old threads and see the interaction between various Dwellers. This post, for example:

reminds me that the words that we say here today will be widely noted and long remembered.

This post is not directed toward any one of you, but to prompt myself to be more respectful of all of you.

To be born independently wealthy, healthy, happy with long life with an eventual peaceful passing in the middle of the 17th century someplace in Europe.

* said in one breath so that = one wish *

I'm with UT. Everlasting true love. The one thing you can't guarantee in this world.
Even if I knew I'd only get it for 5 years at the end of my life, if I knew I would get it I would happily wait.

I'll leave world peace to those of you with someone to love.

I am curious because I don't know. What is everlasting true love? The only thing that gets close to the ideal for me is the love parents can feel for their children.

Love is so fraught with conditions and the baggage of the human condition. I think I'll stick with sex and lust.
