You kidding? Find the wiener mobile -- they still give them out. I picked up a wiener whistle about a year ago when it was stopped in a Publix parkinglot. Still fairly unchanged over all these years.

I just got a couple of Weiner Whistles awhile back... the new ones don't have the holes for playing separate notes anymore. In fact, the whistles look like the Weinermobile, and not like a hotdog.

I remember when they used to package the Weiner Whistles as a promo inside a pack of hot dogs when I was a kid.

Everything changes, and often, not for the better.

I remember when Crackerjack toys were really cool things you could actually play with and choke on and included a fortune or two on the outside of the package (remember the coveted compass??) rather than a lame sticker or mini-sports card.

There's no good stuff in cereal boxes anymore either.

(all right, so there's NEVER been any good prizes in All-Bran, but I mean even the good sugary cereals.)

You can't have any real fun anymore. "Don't hold firecrackers in your hand, plastic bags are not toys, danger, electrocution hazard."

Last month, Cheerios was giving out popular childrens' books in thier cereal. They were slightly smaller paperbacks, but they were complete and unabridged. We normally buy Cheerios anyway, so we went through the stock on hand and got one of each kind of book. (The books were displayed.) That was a great deal. Best prize in a box I've seen in my life. Books that my kids love, that a store would sell for $15 a pop, being given away free.

last month, huh? and it would have killed you to tell us about it while we could have taken advantage of it?

Your pennance for this is that you must start a "good bargain" thread, and swear to alert us to deals like this in a more timely fashion next time.

www.freecycle.org - Stuff people were going to toss anyway gets offered to the community. People request things that they need. Only rule is it must be free.

Today I got rid of 100 sq. ft. of carpet we removed (and would have had to pay $20 to take it to the dump--$65 to have someone ELSE take it to the dump!) and picked up a huge bag full of size 5-8 boys clothes.

There could be one in your city!
