Little Graceland

This is pretty cool. I was driving back from my company convention in South Padre Island, Texas today, and about thirty miles out there is this small town called Los Fresnos. I noticed a sign pointing out 'Little Graceland'. I had heard of this place before, so I wheeled around to check it out. The guy was alone and a bit reticent about greeting me at first, but sitting in the car I popped in my ELVIS #1s CD and he totally tripped. He gave me a personal tour around the museum, with photo privileges. The guy's name is Simon Vega. He was in the Army in Germany with Elvis. One of these pix is of him and 'The King' together. He holds festivals in January and August, with Elvis impersonators and everything. I'm going.

Thanks NBN, that's cool. Did he talk about how much time Elvis actually spent with his unit, after they got to Germany? I'd read they made him "walk the walk" in basic, but I wondered about Germany because the media was always full of Elvis doing this and that with various Army Brass and celebrities.

pardon me for not being an elvis fan but did the fact that he was a celebrity keep hm from active duty? (really, i don't know!)

That *is* pretty cool, actually. My momma raised me on Elvis, among others.

but apparently they went all through basic training together, starting in Arkansas and moving on through Fort Hood, Texas.

What is cool to me is that I am now officially one degree of separation fron Elvis Presley, which at the present time is as close as anyone can ever get.

Have you considered becoming a grave robber?

Wasn't it AFTER Elvis' service that he became famous?
Elspode • Feb 25, 2004 5:24 pm
Oh, hell no...he was already a huge deal when he did his service.

No, but I have often entertained the thought of fucking Priscilla.

Not Lisa Marie, though. Who would want that after MJ was done with it?

Am I the only one that thinks this is really bloody sad?

NBN said the guy was reticent until he proved he was cool with Elvis. I imagine this guy has taken some heat from people that don't get Elvis.
It could be a tribute to a dead friend.
It could be an attempt to be cool by association.
It could be attempt to retain his youth.
It could be he never heard of the DoDads thread.:)

All of those options are still sad bruce, including the dead friend. Building your life around anything like that isn't healthy.

Context Jag, context. It's got to be a step up for a guy that lives in Los Fresnos, Texas.:haha:
