I've been luring this board for a month or so. You guys are great. Here are my reasons for de-lurking:
- Post volume and quality
- People treat each other well without being oversensitive pansies
- Variety of topics. One topic doesn't dominate nor does one person
- People are free to do their thing (within reasonable limits).
Welcome. Are you U47 from the Fark PS threads?

Nope. Just stumbled here. I've been BBS-ing for about 10 years.

Cool! We stumble around and BS a lot too! :)
I like the tone and content of these forums as well! Thumbs UP, y'all.
Things are extremely boring at my forum right now, and it is always nice to encounter other peeps out there for some cyber bonding. ;-)
I've been on a forum for a few months where the dominating topic is politics. They bicker and bicker endlessly. At the same time they have a few members that don't fight clean and use dirty tricks. The asshats get banned, forum traffic drops off, then the jerks get invited back in.
Things just stopped being fun.
What sort of dirty tricks?
Wait, let me get a pencil...

I can't. I'll get banned. I still have friends on that forum. We organize via PM.

Logical fallicies, flaming because they don't agree with your POV. Posting crap from NewsMax.
We get that sometimes, too.
Sometimes, juju becomes a big whiny baby, but then we slap him around, give him some sugar and he's fine.
For the most part, self-policing works very well here. I have only seen UT remove two people for being intolerably irritating since I've been here (3 years).
Come on...you've got to get us a link over here...we'll turn that place upside down.
What kind of board makes people take a vow of secrecy not to reveal the location of the board to outsiders?
(you're not talking about freep, are you? if you are, just give a little thumbs up on your next reply and they'll not be any the wiser ...)

Yes! I spend a good deal of time at another site which is mostly smug, self-absorbed people with high IQ's who spend all their time making fun of anyone they think is below them on the food chain.
I spend a lot of time there because it's funny :p but it's quite refreshing to see people acting civilized and opposing viewpoints being respected.

Well, I'm smug and self-absorbed and...uh....oh...nevermind.:D
Yes, yes, yes, I know the equation isn't meant to really be taken extra-seriously, but has anyone else actually plugged values into it? To me, it looks like it either returns relatively smallish values, or I didn't Perl-ize the equation correctly.
I won't be wholly surprised if I'm the only person to have immediately thought of making the equation into "$c = (2 * sqrt((sqrt($p)-.9)/2)) - ($sf/600) - sqrt((.8 * $a)+11) - (.7 * $p) + 10.5;", but hey.
Alright, well. Begin mocking my geekery.
THIS is the crap i found there...no thanks.

I agree, basic math is no fun.
