8/29: Dog rescued

In the face of yesterday's sadness, here is one to uplift you. Firefighters rescued "Jack", a spaniel mix, from a fire. Here they give him oxygen. And he lived.

alright. i been looking at this for hours and no reply. i don't think anyone knows what to say to this image. i just had to break the silence... so... uh... cute dog! yeah.

Hey, that dog looks really freaked out. A little too scared to bite the fireman. Lucky for both the dog and the fireman.

By the way, I tend to agree with Dennis Leary's assessment that it not really a dog if you can pass it long.

Maybe that'll get people talking dhamsaic. Heh.

The thing I noticed about this picture is that it is shot low with a wide angle lens. It gives you a feeling of being small and being under things. Heck you can see straight under the fire engine. And even though the fireman is helping the dog, it looks like he is trying to crush and smother the dog. All in all it gives a helpless and fearful perspective on the situation.

Now, I appreciate Dhamsaic's effort. I truly do. But it also fills me with sadness and a bittersweet longing for a bygone era. It was a time when giants walked the earth, a time when mere mortals trembled at the sound of a tongue being sharpened and a keyboard being drawn from its scabbard: The Age of the Troll.

Time was when trolls were hand-crafted works of art, and their creators were honored craftsmen. Trolling reached its zenith in the early 90s, under the Trolling Guilds of Usenet. The advent of the WWW and Instant Messaging have, sadly, been the death of the trollmaster. Today, the art of trolling has gone the way of stained glass and the forging of Damascus steel: another mystery whose secrets are lost to the ages.

A few fragments of ancient knowledge have survived to the present day, and I will share one of them with Dhamsaic now: A good troll NEVER announces his intentions to the reader! ;)

Hubris Boy - wasn't trolling. just trying to be silly. slashdot is for trolling. i prefer the intelligent/fun discussion here.

that having been said, the RWM trolls are some of my favorites to write... you can act totally oblivious to rational thought, and it pisses so many people off :)

Hubris Boy was apparently the misunderstood genius in high school. ;)

I wouldn't quite say trolling is a dead art just yet. While I was not quite part of the bbs world of the pre-WWW era, the troll lives on today as a more sentient being--the usenet manic.

We have one right now on phl.transportation. She is apparently a student at Penn, and had appeared before as a smearer of the city of Philadelphia. Recently, she's been back on there going on glorious tirades about how Roosevelt Blvd. (US 1) is the Heart of Philly...and how fabulous that S. Delaware Ave. has been renamed Columbus Blvd...and how Philadelphians should get over the name change. (Tony, what was her other rant? About shopping malls?)

Truth be told, I'm just as guilty b/c I engage her. Not to give her shit, but hopefully as a way to bring her down from her mania.

And somebody has to protect Philadelphia...whoops! I wasn't supposed to expose my delusions of grandeur again. ;)

Yeah, malls, and I bit on that one. I think I will just leave Ms. Winters alone from now on.

I can understand if people want to visit different states, or cities, or restaurants...but malls? Ummm...no.
